hyperX 4000

2-3-2-6 at PC3200 you mean?

If that's what you mean, then I'd suggest just getting some nice PC3200 RAM..

There is no way you'll see latencies that low in the current crop of PC4000. In fact, we may never see CL 2.0 again. :(

Anyway, what exactly are you planning on doing with it?

Yeah, pc4000 is no good for tight timings like you're talking about.

Go for some HyperX pc3200 with the bh-5 chips, the one's without the A in the model number...like this KHX3200/256. NOT like this...KHX3200A/256. They do 2-2-2-6 at boot up.

thats what i originaly wanted to get, 3200 at 2-2-2-6 timings by kingston, but they are not made anymore, u cant find them on any american sites. the last was at $300 (which used to be 240) and its back order and that was a few weeks ago, now thats not even up anymore. only the AK version of it, which has the 3 in the timings. what do you say? get a diff brand of ram, there's that mushkin i think with the 2-2-2-6 timings also. u think thats as fast as the hyperx?

Don't bother with PC4000, it's very stuborn ram. It doesn't like running at ANYTHING but 1:1 3-4-4-8. PC3200 is very flexible, it'll run at 1:1, 3:2, and 5:4 no problem. The speed differences between PC4000 at 1:1 and PC3200 at 5:4 isn't that big either.

Oh, and the difference between 2-2-2-6 and 2-3-2-6 isn't that big either anymore. AMDs used to be very sensitive to memory timmings a while ago, but it's not an issue anymore.

oh you can still get them :naughty:

I got this EXACT SAME Ram. Except it was 100 bucks a stick. Timings to go 2-3-3-7 at 400 I believe.

lol i checked out the hyperx 400, one site listed 2-2-2 timings, another listed same ram at 2-3-2 and one actualy had it at 2-3-3 lol. nothing is right here. no one is making sense, can someone give a worthy link that has 2-2-2-6 timings for the hyperx 400? if it does exist.

thanks anyways meteor.

There's a little trick in finding good 400MHz kingston hyperX RAM. You want to find the RAM without an A in the model number.

For example, KHX3200/256 is indeed RAM with bh-5 (or bh-6) ram chips and will indeed do 2-2-2-6 timings.

KHX3200A/256 is NOT the good stuff, and will have more relaxed timings and most likely be less expensive. This applies to all the other kingston hyperX RAM aswell.

This RAM is getting increasing hard to come across since Winbond (makers of the ram chips) have discontinued it and when it is found, it's usually pretty pricey. Also i'm not sure where you're from but i've heard from lots of Europeans having a very hard time getting their hands on this stuff.

What about this.

Yeah, the Mushkin "222 special" is probably just as good as the Kingston HyperX with 2,2,2,6 timings. A friend of mine just got a pair of that (2x512mb sticks) and he says they're great.

A lot of people dont realize how important 400MHz pc3200 RAM with low latency timings are right now. Any RAM at higher frequency than pc3200 cannot achieve 2,2,2 timings which makes pc3200 ideal. And since the recent reports of DDR2 show that it's not looking all that great means DDR1 is still going to be the RAM of "tomorrow", atleast until someone can make DDR2 memory that performs well.

So personally i'd say the elite rig of 2004 would be A64 FX-53 + nforce3 (socket 939) + r420 + pc3200 bh-5 ram = nerd drool all over the place.
