My friend Ben does a podcast for the local student newspaper and when his podcasting partner Guy Pusey quit at the end of last term he asked if I wanted to be his co-host. I jumped at the chance, even though 'For the Love of Film' is just about the silliest name I ever did hear.

This may be the silliest decision I have taken upon these forums, and listening to my dumb-sounding voice may ruin your impression of me. The podcast is not even that great. Oh well!

But how do you know you don't have us confused?

Well, I wonder who Laurence Dodds could possibly be?

Maybe they're both brothers and never knew it, and the other guy has a fake name?

Wow you sound nothing like what I imagined :)

Laurence, you are very interuptive and fast!

Ben: "We are going to discuss the film called-"

Laurence: "Let me tell you about this movie!" *british stuff*

Ben:
"yes I agree"

Jesus christ talk slower my sluggish New Zealand brain can't keep up.

When do we get to see Laurence in Live Action?

I'm loving this. I must say I completely agree with your cohort on Benjamin Button. I really want to start something like this myself with some friends of mine eventually.

Jolly good show.

Such cheesy music! Would love to hear some sort of music during your talks.

Christ, you have a really nervous and hectic voice.. Relax abit, dude. It's very tiring to listen to.

You have a good conversation going on, but you interrupt eachother WAY too much. Also, i can only hear the audio in my left channel. Too noticable cuts between moments of silence.

Your friend said "Screenplay is rubbish" at one film.. why exactly? He just jumped waaay too quickly between points of critique.

I liked the vibe, it doesn't feel serious but it's funny. But it would be nice to hear some actual criticism among all the jokes, you're sounding more like MST3K than a film review show.
LOL @ "You wanna be me?" "Not particularly"
LOL at the review of the swedish film.
"After watchmen, I was expecting some serious superhero dick" Oh my god that was so funny :D
"Star trek, new boots"... You're seriously pretty funny when you're not speed-talking.

Keep it up guys, would love to hear more. But RELAX. Your friend started at a good speed, then you went off into hyperspace and all of you built up rapport, so everyone talked that way. Or were you just 2 guys? I couldn't tell from all the interruptions, haha.

Thanks! It's only me and Ben :p

I've just listened to the version I linked to, and - very odd - it's been quite closely edited. There are moments where things we said that weren't bad or irrelevant have been sliced out. I'm not sure if that was the newspaper who we do the podcasts for, or if Ben submitted another edit from the one I heard, but it accounts for some of the disjointedness and quickness. The one I heard before it went out was longer and more natural.

Otherwise, part of the reason everything flashed by was of course because we were doing five one minute reviews - normally we do far fewer for somewhat longer.

Taken on board though and I think we can definitely cut down on cutting in on each other (it's all my fault). We'll try to slow down too. Part of the problem is of course that we refuse to have any real plan to our reviews. We try to progress smoothly from one topic to the next but at the same time we don't want to do any scripting, or sacrifice any spontaneity. I'm interested in what people think of this - we might try to find a balance, like have a really vague plan with key points, or otherwise different 'aspects' of the movie to discuss like plot, actors, etc (although that seems very mechanical).

EDIT: Man what someone cut out the bit about Werner Herzog :arms:

I couldn't reach podbean.com so I only listened to the latest one you linked to, I haven't heard the previous ones.

I think that's the best part of your idea here, that it really does feel like a couple of guys discussing movies.

You are way more aggressive sounding when audible.
