It's pretty damn good. A little repetetive I must admit, but fun nevertheless.
I've not seen another game with such spot-on locational damage and reactions to gunfire though, and the engine is definately one of the most advanced to date in terms of interactivity. And I have made it my personal mission to dive through every single window in the game at least once.
I just chased away the big fish by harpooning it in the throat. That was fun.

Its a very long game. Im only about halfway done, maybe a little more. Like chapter 3-2 or so. Its absolutely amazing. One of the coolest moments was when some crazy chainsaw guy ran up to me and sawed my head clean off very quickly. It was just like...wow. Gets cooler and harder over time. Wait until its nighttime, things change a little.

Yeah, I'm on the 2nd disk myself. It's the best Resident Evil yet.
Now all Capcom has to do is work with the Silent Hill (scariest games ever) guys to make the ultimate Survival-Horror.

I'll be getting this soon....can't wait. I'm still playing Echoes and Warrior Within though. ><

Amazing game, I'm on my second run through (just finished getting the infinite rocket launcher). I havn't really played around much with the mini games. I died sooo many times (65-70 I think). My defence is it is the first game I've played on the GC(just got it 2 weeks ago). Anyway, whats with girls and mario kart? I swear to god we played for like 3 hours watched a movie then played it for another 2 hours.

Woah. That would be amazing if they could do that. I'd definitely buy a game made by those two companies.

Anyways, RE:4 is amazing. Having played through HL2 and DOOM 3 on highest settings, I must admit that Resident Evil 4's environments had my jaw hitting the floor more than once. Its simply amazing that they were able to pull off that level of detail on that tiny little system.

It's a very well animated game - mocap up the wazoo. Because of this it seems interactive (though it's really not). A very simple concept executed well. I watched a friend play through and get the chicago typewriter and the hand cannon. Quite a bit of playing to get those.

How is the fear factor in the game? I'm not one for scary games, but the game itself looks amazing, not to mention the positive reviews it's gotten.

Its nothing thats too scary. I guess it can get a little freaky at times but not Silent Hill scary. Its more geared towards action than the previous games.

I've been pretty freaked out a few times in RE4, but it's no Silent Hill.

Can't wait till it comes out in Australia (march sometime i think).

I'm on Chapter 5-4 in Professional Mode. This shit is tough.

But damn, Krauser's cinematic fight and his boss fight are soooo freakin' cool!

So, If you had no games that interested you right now, and you had a spare 170 quid, would you get a GC and RE4?

Just wonderin' :p

Amazing game. Less survial horror and more action orientated.

As much as I love Silent Hill, and the old Resident Evil games, it can't be denied that they were getting a little boring, with crappy combat and rather 'clunky' controls. Great in their time, but now it's time to move on.

Resident Evil 4's biggest achievement, imo, is in showing that this type of game can have excellent combat and feel far more fluid.

Being able to shoot a weapon out of a charging madmans hand feels so damn good. As does a shot to the shin followed by a head exploding suplex. Take it from me - Capcom are going to add to this game (armlocks, throws, holds) and it will rock \o/

Resident Evil 4 is one of the best games of this gen. Resident Evil 5 on next gen hardware is going to be AMAZING!

*Imagines co-op and dies on the spot*

I just ordered the special edition via GameStop. I can't wait until it arrives. In the meantime, I have some catching up to do with my good ol' pals the Dahaka and Dark Samus. Ta ta!

I finished the game like a week ago and it took me 25 hours! Longest gaming experience ever! I just wish the second part was longer.

Oh and everyone should complete Assignment Ada because then you can get a tompson.

Get it. Trust me.
I hate scary games myself - hell, I can barely even watch previews for Silent Hill - but this one is damn good. It's scary, yes, but not scary that you're thinking about it in the back of your mind.

It's so much fun to play and it just looks great. I'm actually playing a scary game for once! I love it.

Those things that turn invisible at will have a certain fear factor. That's all I'll say about them though.

Oh man... i cant wait for a film of this game to come out !!!1 ;)

If you EVER, EVER, speak those cursed words again, I will cut you hard. Hard.

The RE movies are the most despicable pieces of crap ever fathomed.

I do hope you were being sarcastic...or else your jugular belongs to me now.

I just got the infinite rocket launcher....... gotta do ada and then the tompson is next. I imagine 1 mil won't be too hard with my new baddass rocket launcher(owned).

Im still not finished with my first run. I think I'm on the last part Chapter 4. I want the Chicago Typeriter so badly.

ARGH

Yes definately but if you can wait until March then Nintendo will be bringing out a RE4 bundle for just £90!!!

Silver/black cube+silver pad(both with RE4 logo on)
RE4
Metroid Prime 2 demo
another disc with footage of all other RE games.

I'm thinking about buying the bundle myself so I don't have to keep moving my cube up and downstairs all the time.

GC GOTY for me, can't even see Zelda topping this one.

I just had my collectors edition delivered today...I'm in awe. Utter amazement.

Here's a quick mini-review of the first 30 minutes of the game. 30 minutes in this game for me is about 30 steps forward.

Basically, nearly every feature in this game, visuals, sound, etc., just is great. When you first gain control of Leon, I immediately felt a sense of fear and unrest. The environment is so perfect. While you're forced one way at first, you still feel like you're in an open area.

Now, this is my first RE game, and I'm impressed at how well Capcom introduces you to the story, that is, anyone who got the collectors edition. It comes with a very pretty booklet giving you in depth history of RE and the T-Virus, etc.

Here's where this game gets challenging. Fighting off one enemy isn't hard at all. Fighting off two gets a lot more complicated. Each villager takes roughly 5 or more bullets, depending where shot, to take down. Now, you get quite a bit of ammo, but it goes extremely fast. Aiming from medium ranges with your laser sight is hard in this game, making most of your fighting up close and personal, giving that mob of 10 villagers heading your way a great advantage.

The enemy AI is UNBELIEVABLE! I was shocked at the variety of ways I was flanked in a small cottage. Picture this:

I'm in a small, two-story house with a window on the first floor, and two on the second floor. Now, the villagers naturally go for the door first. You can push a small cabinet in front of it that can slow them down...but not for long. My first run through this small house I got cornered into one of the walls with villagers flooding through the front door, and the window to my right, while more guys are coming down the stairs. I was killed easily. My next run through the same house I went upstairs and picked up the shotgun and 10 rounds for it. Now, keep in mind I'm on the second floor with two windows. They throw ladders up against the windows. I can go KNOCK DOWN the ladder. But wait, get this, they put it back up, again...and again...and again...and the other window leads outside to a roof. They leaned a ladder against the roof of that building outside and were coming through there. I still in the first house fighting them off, and I though things were going well. I turn a bit and kill some guys coming up the stairs, when all of a sudden I lose more than half of my life. Before when I turned, upstairs looked clear of enemies. In the time I turned, a guy with a chainsaw and a bunch of other villagers had snuck into the damn room.

I won't go any further.

And this was within the first few bits of the game. Just astonishing.

I usually don't have a tough time with any video game. This game is challenging. Really challenging.

If you own a GameCube, buy this game, and get ready to be killed often. Fun, amazing, an excellent game.

AWESOME WORK CAPCOM!

Glad you like it.

Wait untill you finish Res 4, the extras (especially the increased difficulty mode) are excellent. I actually enjoyed the 2nd play through the game more - and I thought it was amazingly amazing the first time :)

Superb \o/

That chainsaw guy had me running away screaming like a little sissy girl, you should allow yourself to be killed by him though, at least once. It's one of the coolest deaths around.

Let him? Haha, that's funny, because when he did kill me....

I was in the two-story cottage, and I picked up the shotgun and ammo and leapt out the window onto the roof. There I knocked down their ladders and killed a bunch coming up onto the roof from the ladders. While I was doing this, as I might have stated earlier, the chainsaw dude snuck up behind me a sawed off my head. Looked amazing.

I was enjoying this game so, so much and then my TV, which was on it's last legs, finally gave out. Haven't been able to play for weeks ;(

Can anyone tell me how far I was?

I was at the bit with the big guy in the beret wielding some super-powerful chaingun.
