Why do so much people like it?! It doesn't really do anything that hasn't been done a million times before.. Doom 1 had more content FFS. I hate people trying to argue this, too: Story - Garbage, Gameplay - Done a bajillion times, Graphics - Halo 3 doesn't even look good..

Am I the only one who hates this damn game?

I agree it has fun multiplayer for a few days, but thats it.. It's nothing you can't buy for $20 at the bargain bin...

I agree.

The only reason it caught on was it was the first mp fps on consoles which did the same things that pc's were doing since quake.

Awesome thread. Oh, actually, hang on, it's complete shite.

gj

What has truly been done a million times is topics and discussions like this...

I don't hate it...but I don't love it. So I voted hate because theres no grey area.

Halo is pretty fun to play with other people, but it's shit on it's own

I don't know why all you guys feel the need to bash it

hate is too strong a word ..I'm more "meh" ..hate implies you're so passionate about halo that it consumes you ..well that's the same as being a fan boy but in reverse

"meh" is much more damaging because indifference is worse than hate/like

i do dislike halo fanboyism though, but that has little to do with the game

I like Halo, Both the Multi player's are great, Halo 1 SP was amazing, Halo 2 SP was just as good, confusing part was the big underwater thing (Gravemind) but it's whatever. Completely fun and entertaining. I need a 360 to rent, because Halo 3 would be the only game I would play, I just don't think it would be a good inventment as a purchase. No time and loads of money for a system I'll hardly use isn't worth it.

Halo's a pretty good game. No idea why you dislike it, my guess is just because the vast majority like it thereby you feel like you must dislike it. I find it fun, on Xbox and Pc. Halo 2 Mp's not as much but I did like the Halo 3 beta.

yes because the only reason why anyone would hate it is because other people like it ..not because it's repetative, not because the story is completely boring ...there are only illegitimate reasons for disliking halo because it's the bestest game eveh!

I guess it's a game you have to actually play and understand. It hasn't been done a million times. Halo is a game thats easy to play and hard to master. It requires a hell of a lot of teamwork to be good. Sure you can be good on your own but if you go up against a team full of decent players you will get absolutely raped.

I like Halo because it's more based on team work and geography rather than twitch.

You don't have to like it if you want to be cool and be a non conformist, but don't bash a game you don't understand.

Legitemate reasons would be that you don't like it's style of play, you don't have XBL and I will admit the single player sucks or that the pace of the game isn't for you. Generalizing and saying "Gameplay sucks, it's been done before". Well yeah there are billions of FPS games, however offer the same gameplay as Halo. Yeah the story sucks, but Halo is known for it's LAN/multiplayer. I personally think the graphics are pretty good. They are nothing special but they are good enough to draw players in and keep you captivated.

Also if you only played multiplayer for a few days my guess is you didn't play long enough to get decent and win enough matches to make it fun. go to www.mlgpro.com and read up on strategies. Learn to BXR, do sweeping headshots, learn maps, get buddies who can use teamwork and learn to 4 shot with the BR. If you want to get really good learn to hold the controller using the "claw". I have and it honestly helps a lot in any game you play on a console.

I purchased both Halo and Halo 2 ..I know how to play the game

But why cant people dislike it and keep it to themselves rather than making threads dedicated to dismantling it. I used to be addicted to halo 2. First of all, the story is interesting. Secondly, mulitplayer is pretty addicting when you are some-what good at it. I find a lot of people are unable to go from a keyboard/mouse to a 360 controller, might be part of the reason PC gamers dislike it.

Halo 3 Beta I will admit was less "pretty" than I thought it would be, but its much better looking than 2. Im mainly buying the game for the single player anyway.

however, PC > XBOX :E

i did have xbl when it first came out but was completely disillusioned because of the ghost recon fiasco and cancelled my subscription ...never could get ghost recon working in live (it was a known issue that was never fixed)

But why cant people dislike it and keep it to themselves rather than making threads dedicated to dismantling it.

I dont know, but possibly because they're idiots ..I mean why would anyone create a thread meant to bash something that they dont even play?

"I hate Final Fantasy! I've never played it but my hate burns like a thousand suns!!!" ... <-- I've just admitted that not only am I stupid but also a anti-fanboy which is just as bad if not worse than a fan boy

I dislike the game despite the fact I've played it ..so my reasons are legitimate relatively speaking

I used to be addicted to halo 2. First of all, the story is interesting.

I disagree ..I still havent finished H2 because I was bored to tears ..even in co-op it bored me ...even my friend who only ever plays video games at my house thought it was boring

Secondly, mulitplayer is pretty addicting when you are some-what good at it.

my son sat on my lap the other day while playing Halo mp ..well it was me/my son against ...umm me: no guns just driving in the warthog running over daddy who was just sitting there ..my son loves it and asks to play the "green guy" ..cant wait to build my own clan of Stern: Me, clan leader (of course) my son and my daughter ..beware gamers; Clan of Stern will pwn you all

Of course some people don't like it for legitimate reasons. However when you get threads about a person hating the game, I come to the conclusion that they may not have even played the game but rather are sick and tired of hearing about the game. I mean yeah i've played games I don't like, but I move on. Usually without making a thread about how much the game sucks. A lot of people simply throw down Halo because they hear about how great it is from a lot of people and get tired of hearing about it.

That's what this seems like. This guy is just tired of hearing about Halo, but maybe has never even played the game or when he did play it he picked on all the flaws and gave it no credit for what it did right because in the back of his mind he simply didn;t want to like it.

So yes some people don't like halo for legitmate reasons, however you'd have to admit that a lot of people dislike Halo for illegitmate reasons.

yes because the only reason why anyone would hate it is because other people like it
Or because the majority of the people here favor PC rather than Xbox.

I personally liked the game; not loved, not hated, but liked it. Therefore, my vote is not on the ballet.

I guess hate was a strong word, I'm not saying "omg never buy halo it sux so much lol!", I actually wanted to have a "civil debate" about this, but there is always someone who loves it a little too much, and has to bash the creator of the topic, rather then focus on the argument.

I was just wondering why people love it so much, it doesn't do anything really that amazing, graphics aren't the best, not the best sound, story isn't the best, in fact pretty much everything about the game is a little above average - maybe.

It's not like there aren't a thousand and one better games that do the same things and more then Halo..

For the record I don't hate it "because everyone likes it", I am entitled to an opinion of my own, just cause I don't share the same views as you do.

@ Glirk - I have played Halo 1 and 2, and 3's Beta, they aren't amazing... And I'm not bashing a game I don't understand, the story is terrible and simple, I don't know how you cannot understand it.. And it does not require as much teamwork as you say.. Obviously having a squad of people is better, but it's the same in every online FPS...

Off the top of my head - Battlefield Modern Combat is a better FPS for the consoles. More teamwork, better gameplay, alot more variety, and it doesn't get repetitive like Halo does.

No one can say Halo isn't repetitive, theres only a handful of weapons, and it's the same thing for every scenario - Shoot, kill, move, shoot, kill, move.. It wouldn't be as bad if they did something atleast a LITTLE different.. Condemned had the weapons, Battlefield had the teamwork, Doom 3 had atmosphere, why couldn't they focus on beefing up those things for Halo?

EDIT: I'm not picking out the flaws, I said in the first post it has fun multiplayer for a while. I compared it to some other FPS's even, it doesn't have that much good features compared to alot of other FPS's

Or because the majority of the people here favor PC rather than Xbox.

if that were true wouldnt pc gamers say the pc version is better than the original?

I like Pcs better than my xbox ..what platform I prefer has no influence on my decision at all. I dislike Halo for the reasons I've stated ..has nothing to do with console envy or whatever you're trying to imply ...and imho the general games forum has more console fans than pc fans ..at least they're more vocal

Just because you say that you don't have envy doesn't necessarily mean that others don't. A few people that I know say that HL2 was a horrible game because they would rather stick to the 360 than try something new and possibly better than what they have been playing.

The people who say a game sucks JUST because of the platform it's on has NO credibility with their argument, and instantly fails.

? you mean they'd rather stick to PC than try something new and possibly better ...you wrote 360

I dont think it's envy I think it's being defensive because it wasnt a pc game from the get go (ok it was till bungie was purchased)

it's like platform fanboyism ...people with one of three new consoles will prasie their console of choice and put down the others because they've made an investment in that one console so they have to continually justify it's purchase in comparison to the others ..people who have all 3 consoles are rarely fanboys because they're able to see the strengths/weaknesses of all 3

anyways those that would stubbornly refuse to play something because of the platform are stupid at best and are not worth getting upset over since nothing will change their mind and it's best to not even try

If I have to chose between hate and love. I chose love, since I think the game is decent, it's just that if you can use paint, you have more skill then bungie's level designers(Library).

I am annoyed by its popularity, and think it has more to do with extreme marketing and hype then its quality as a game.

Furthermore, there are games far more deserving of that kind of popularity then halo.

What a ****ing pointless flame-bait thread.

Oh no, other people like a game that I hate! Damn them to Hades!

Get over it, I happen to thoroughly enjoy the series... the first one had a solid singleplayer and great multiplayer, the second one had an alright singleplayer but still fun, and a really awesome multiplayer.

Not to dismiss the fact that they're both EXCELLENT console shooters.

Halo represents the worst of an FPS. It isn't so bad it's terrible; it's 'fun', but a decidedly average, mediocre game. All you ever do in Halo is move through a shooting gallery. There's nothing more to the gameplay than shooting the bad guys, and whilst Legendary runs can be pretty epic, it isn't moving us anywhere at all and it never has. Halo 2 was pathetic.

But the multiplayer was good.

Warbie, don't bother. We've done it a zillion times. :p

No flames kiddies

for my money the most innovative series to come out of the original xbox was splinter cell ...all else was decidely ho hum

? you mean they'd rather stick to PC than try something new and possibly better ...you wrote 360
No, they hated playing Half-life 2 because it was on the PC.

And PC gamers are the same way, we spend a shit load of money upgrading, and when a console game title rolls in it gets flamed to hell.

Well, I'm no PC facist, and like consoles just as much. I enjoyed a fair few original xbox titles.

It's overrated by many, but it's also over-hated by others.

Is over-hated a word?

My only exposure to Halo was the PC port of the original. I thought it was one of the worst shooters I'd ever played on the PC up to that point in time. Most of my Halo friends were people that were new to shooters and/or gaming and played it on the Xbox. They loved it and still do, due to the nostalgia. I couldn't care less about Halo though. I'll never play another, that's for sure. If you like it, more power to you.

Both are fun to play CO-OP, story in the 1st was cool 2nd was shit. I hope the 3rd goes out with a bang, but thats wishfull thinking.

That's kind of funny, Ive got a PC, Wii, and 360, and I hate the PS3 (although I've been a fan of Sony for a while, own all their console except PS3.. But then again, I don't go around telling people it sucks or anything like that. Aside from this post, of course :p)

@xlucidx - I said it doesn't matter what anyone else likes, I'm looking at the pros and cons of the Halo games, and the cons outwiegh the pros by a ton.. It's the same with Gears of War, I own the game, and never play it because I don't think it's that good of a game, good sound/graphics is pretty much it, the only reason I own it is because - My parents seen the advertising for the game and thought it'd be good.. Tells you something, eh? For the record, GoW is better then Halo.

No, they hated playing Half-life 2 because it was on the PC.

what did they say when it was released on the xbox?

And PC gamers are the same way, we spend a shit load of money upgrading, and when a console game title rolls in it gets flamed to hell.

ya by the idiots ..if I flame a console game it's either because I've played it and it sucks or it sucks because I want it but am not willing to fork over $500 for a single game (I'm looking at you Mass Effect /me shakes fist )

I think that Halo 1 was a better-than-average game, if not a fantastic one. Halo 2 was a waste of DVDs.

I don't hate halo or anything, i just think it's way overrated. Co op is loads of fun though.

Maybe you guys should focus on stuff you like, rather then stuff you hate, eh?
