Ok. Probably wonder what I'm bitching about right? Well, many people have realized by now that GameSpot reviews are sometimes very inaccurate when it comes to scores. But this really just did it for me.

I was checking out new reviews and I saw a review for Jaws Unleashed. Of course, I read the review. Wouldn't ya know it they gave it a 3.8. Knowing how GS can be, I went out and bought the game anyway, because I had been waiting for the game even after it was delayed 4 + times and I wasn't going to let a review stop me. I then came back to my PC asking "What the **** was this guy thinking?" The game was actually really fun. It should have deserved at least a 7.8 to an 8.5. Sometimes, I think they give crap ratings to games because they have nothing else to do. I have seriously come to the conclusion that these guys just don't know what a good game is.

That aside, how many times have you played a game that turned out to be great even though it got a really bad score?

I usually get the opposite: a high review/score, but a bad game. Halo 2 being the most recent example. I'm afraid to get F.E.A.R. for the same reason.

I like gamespot, I almost always disagree with their review scores, but they way they explain is wonderfull, they make good comparisons when explaining different aspects of a game, and thus give enough info to compare their score with what I would have probably given the game. All in all good reviewers. I like gamespy and IGN more.

I'll have to agree with you on the comparisons.

I absolutely despise gamespot. I like IGN much more, but both pale in comparison with Gamerankings. I mean, come on! It's like comparing a single Transformer to their combined form!

EDIT: If Gamespot were a Transformer, it'd be Hotshot :x

Funny. I thought GS was the last place where their reviews are worth it. But lately, their reviews has been wacked up. They gave Monster Hunter Freedom 6.5?

IGN pee me off too. At least Gamespot had the courage to mention how much of a letdown Halo 2 was, whereas IGN just have fun with a game and throw a superb score at it.

But Gamespot gave Halo 1 9.7
And that's simply out of order.

I've been warming to 1up recently - better than all the sites mentioned above imo.

YOUR OUT OF ORDER *Points in other direction* YOUR OUT OF ORDER! THIS WHOLE FORUM'S OUT OF ORDER!

...Er, I'm okay. Really.

Driver 3 and The Getaway both got pretty bad scores, but I enjoyed them. Especially The Getaway, great game (sequel was shit though).

It's pretty stupid to put much faith in reviews. My policy is to try games that I'm interested in regardless of score. Reviewers tend to overrate or underrate a lot of games.

Indeed. Now I know exactly why we have rentals. Don't trust reviews? Rent the game and try it out yourself.

Eurogamer has the most consistent reviews imo. They don't seem to over rate / under rate that often.

I don't bother going by scores any more. I just read the content of the actual review because if you ask me the scores are almost always off no matter where you go.

Gamespot may suck, but at the same time you're saying Jaws Unleashed is worth an 8.5?

That's just my opinion. Hey, I liked it.

LMFAO!

Gamespot the great. Have you guys heard the way their reviewers talk. It seriously feels like im watching a retard or slow person talking. No offence.

Its ridiculous how these people have jobs. I feel like smacking them or something, its so funny its disgusting.

It just seems like their companies is run and all the employees are mentally challenged.

I have a bad, bad feelin' that my baby don't live here no more

That's all right, I still got my guitar, look out now

**rocks out Jimi style**

sadly, i find it hard to take comments, made by someone who BUYS games like jaw unleashed, seriously
overall, i think gamespot do a pretty good job of reviewing
far better than IGN thats for sure

I agree whit gamespot in a 50% cuz sometimes the games deserve more score that what gamespot give
for example driver paralel lines got like 6.8 but I think it deserved something like 7.5 cuz is not a well made game but is good enough

Eh. 1Up have shitted me for quite a while.

I find the average user ratings on Gamespot are usually more inline with what i feel the game deserved. Usually.

When you get games like Halo 2 getting an average user rating of 9.1, that's when i disagree.

Oh and the original Halo = 9.7. Come on. Awesome game, but nowhere near a 9.7. More like 9.0.

I agree with AiM. Eurogamer are the best reviewers.

Gamespy and Gamezilla = Winnar.

Metacritic = Ultimate winnar.

having not read the whole thread..

it seems you're angry the games you like didn't get a high score.. which is kind of lame.

i could think of a couple of games which most people would say suck and they probably do but i enjoy them, it doesn't mean those people lie or just say whatever, it just means i have the 'acquired taste' for the said thing.

Are you reading the same Gamespot as me?

Halo 2 review @ gamespot

Halo 2:
9.4
superb
editor's choice

And IGN gave Halo1 a 9.8.

I just watched the video review of Halo 2 and it was 17 minutes long. The reviewer was using words like awesome, best console online game ever, one of the best FPS ever on any system, incredible, amazing, type Shens/Ames description here. Seriously, I have never seen a game reviewer rave about a game for 17 minutes straight until now. He said, "it is extremely fun", about 7 times, and it looks like it.

They no doubt can upgrade the graphics a great deal for Halo 3, so the only thing that could go wrong is the story or some of the level design, and I don't think they will mess this up this time. They listen to their fans - unlike Mikami ;)

Halo 3 is going to be king of FPS. If you guys choose to plug your ears and cover your eyes, then you are only missing out.

I hope Valve is using some of that money to start coming up with ideas for an assumed Half-Life 3. I know they have the episodes they are working on which is great.

I'd trust Metacritic with my life.
At least the "extreme" scores even out.

Best comment in the thread. I totally agree. The numbers are borderline useless to me--its the details on the gameplay, graphical issues, sounds, controls, etc that make up a review for me (well, that and playing the game for myself).

Worst comment in thread. This is so ridiculous that I don't know where to begin...so I won't.

Weren't two dissapointments enough?
Hardly consider Halo a disappointment at all because at that stage i didn't know Gamespot/IGN/Gamespy even existed.

Halo 2 however. Yes. Big disappointment. Largely because of all the "SAVE EARTH" trailers. And then you get 2 levels.

I dont trust and never will scores or critics. 99% of them are retarded. Thats why i like buying a lot of games, even games i dont know about. Take risks and play. I do however agree with 95% of the scores PC GAMER US gives. Really like that mag.

How can a video game fan dislike Halo? Thats like saying 'I don't like blowjobs.' It's better than Half-life2 in some ways (which is the best FPS ever made) I truly belive that Halo 3 will be the best FPS ever made, and I'm sorry that you won't get to play it.

Yes I agree with Sinkoman too.
I don't like reading the scores and reviews. You know why? Because if you buy a game, and you are having fun with it, sometimes it isn't until you read the review that you realize what sucks about it. The review like kills the game.

I bought this game and it was pretty fun, then I saw a review for it and it told me everything wrong with it... all it's flaws. Then, i just couldn't enjoy it anymore... every-time I played it the flaws were all I saw. LOL

I'd trust Metacritic with my life.
Isn't that the site where they combine every review score from every media outlet into one average?

or is that something else?

I didn't think it was repetitious, but I do think that Half-life2 had a much more unique and amazing level design. Halo was more of a corridor maze game.. and I guess some people don't like mazes. Fair enough.

For me, Halo PC was a disappointment because -

1) Quite a few levels were awful. I mean, mind-numbing.

2) It overused gaudy colors. I felt it looked like a comic.

Halo 2 (Xbox) on the other hand, was a flat out, beggining to end disappointment.
Great job! You destroyed the Halo. But guess what, there's one more that you've never previously heard of!! I could jump straight from Halo 1 to Halo 3 without missing too much of the plot except - the Covenant have reached earth.

Luckily I borrowed a friend's Xbox instead of buying my own.

everyone knows why halo 2 gets 9.4 *cough* money ...... microsoft *Cough*
