yeeees. anyway, im porbally gonna get one over the weekend. i say probally as im not 100% sure yet... which is where you come in :D

anyway, i would appreciate it if poeple could post teh pos/ cons of having an X-box, as well as the best games. You see i allready have a PC, PS2 and Gamecube, so i dont really need an X-box. But halo2 is just so tempring...

do you think its worth getting an X-box for:
ninja gaiden
Splinter cell 3
fable
Halo2
SW:KOTOR2

because those are basically the only games i would buy, unless anyone knows of any others. Im looking to just get an X-box for £99, then get fable alongsidde it. After that the next game i would buy would probally be halo2.

the only trouble with getting an X-box is that most of the good games will be on the PC soon, but then again once i have spent that £99, i will be able to buy ANY game! no more restrictions!

Welcome to the land of logic. Don't worry about your bags someone will be by to pick them up for you later. Have a nice day.

/me covers suicide with a white sheet.

I recommend a mod chip :D

Obviously he's joking ARENT YOU BEN, but if you get a mod and then go on XBOX live your console will be deactivated, no joke.

not been a better time
if i had the money, i would have one by now

Don't forget Riddick! Another great XBox game.. and it's coming to PC! yay

i bought an xbox specifically for those games you mentioned. i hardly ever touch it, but for the few hours i get to play Fable it's good fun. and then when the other games are out it'll be a nice little distraction.

No if you buy a mod chip with a switch you can still play on live.

My mate has 1.

Guess so. Im still not too botherd, it would make me hypocritcal when complaining the HL2 beta steal. Makes me not better than them.

How can you be for mod chips but against pirating games? I know a lot of people that have been getting an xbox recently, before Halo 2 ships.

now i need somebody to answer this cause i dont have the money to upgrade my old computer:will hl2 come out in xbox?

Nothing has been said about it for a while, I would guess no but I could easily be wrong.

There are other uses for the mod chip then pirating halo 2 lol.

You can turn the xbox into a cheap effective media center.

How so?

What Ben said.

Xbox is hackable. A cracked Xbox can use Xbox Media Center, which will turn it into an AVI/Mp3/etc playing monster. It can easily stream videos over your LAN or play them off PC burnt DVDs or the Xbox HD.

A hacked Xbox can have its HD replaced, giving you as much as 300 gigs of storage. On there you can put Xbox Games, sure, but also Movies, Music, and Emulators. Xbox can emulate pretty much every old console system up to the Nintendo 64, as well as running MAME with Neo Geo support.

As a gaming machine, Xbox is now behind the times. But as a multimedia powerhouse and game archive, the Xbox will never go out of style.

You cant say that for the PS2 or GC.

Load up media center on the chip.

Tadah!

You can even stream music and movies from your main box over ftp.

But at the moment if you are looking at an XBOX v1.6 is hard to mod chip.

Actually it goes on the HD.. and there are modchips that work with 1.6. That is the url tho, to learn anything one wants to know about hackin the box.

Yay - if you can handle a joypad (you'd be suprised how many ppl can't) you'll love it.

I found games like Thief, Splinter Cell, GTA, Prince of Persia etc (basically games that need analogue control) to be much better on the Xbox. I also enjoyed KOTOR considerably more - purely cause playing it on a big tv felt more like taking part in a movie than on a monitor (especially if you turn off subtitles)

You may want to consider the 'new' Monkey Ball coming out soon (if you haven't played the first 2) and the new PoP (which looks fantastic)

And get PES4 - it's a vdieo gaming crime of the highest order to own and XBox and not buy PES!

I don't actually have a xbox but im looking to get 1.

well, those games you mentioned feel more natural when played with a mouse and keyboard. Thief, Splinter Cell, GTA(!) and KOTOR felt like they were better suited to a mouse and keyboard, and yes i have played them on both. but PoP, yeah i'd agree that's more comfortable on an xbox.

Don't get it, all these games will be on PC with better graphics off course.

XBOX2 is not far,

I wouldnt get a xbox now kinda pointless cause xbox2 will be out next year.

IMO

play whit a keyboard is more easy cuz you hav a lot of buttons and you can control things very good whit the mouse

play whit console control is very confortable, and games like fps are easy to controlis the buttons are well adapted,I hav played a RTA game in ps2 and the buttons are so good adapted to the ps2 controller that was very easy play it,but of course I didnt know the button's comand so I were fuked by aliens (the game was Aliens vs predator:extinction)

the true is that IMO a controller is more confortable that a keyboard and mouse, but I dont say that I hate mouse and keyboard

Ahem...You have prompted me to write this. It is very important information to know and do before you buy an Xbox, and while you own the beast, too. Before you read, and just to let you know, it is spelled Xbox, not X-Box, XBOX, X-box, or XBox.

I have owned my Xbox since October of 2002. I love it to godamm death and will do nothing to give it up. I have enjoyed my experiences with it and all of the games it has played for me to have fun with. Ever since my very first Xbox game, Silent Hill 2: Restless Dreams, to my latest, Mortal Kombat: Deception, I have had no problems or issues with it since. I purchased the green giant when it was priced at $199, and soon thereafter I had to grab the DVD Playback Kit for $30 even. I love watching DVDs on it, and I love the controller. I have both the Duke and the S. My collection is growing enormously each month. I have a total of about 87 Xbox games to date.

Now, buying an Xbox right now, would probably pose as a not-so-good investment. Considering it is already 3 years old and Xbox Next is nearly around the bend. But if you ask me, I would probably say yes, go ahead and get one. Simply because there is no better console out there. In my honest opinion, every game that is on the Xbox, that has been ported or not, looks way better than the other two consoles significantly.

The 7 things you need to do when purchasing an Xbox:

1. Subscribe to Official Xbox Magazine (OXM). The best Xbox magazine on the market, and you even get monthly game discs packed with trailers, demos, and saved games for a meager $24.95.

2. GET XBOX LIVE! This needs no explanation...just get it! You'll feel very lonely when everyone is playing Halo 2 online and you're not.

3. When you buy an Xbox today, it will most likely come with the S controller. If you like it or not, you should also get the Duke controller, too. Test both out and see which one comforts you the best and fits best in your hand. Having two, or multiple controllers, also serves well for 2-player or multiplayer games.

4. Pick up the DVD Playback Kit. If you didn't already know, Xbox can play DVDs and requires this to play them.

5. The games. I have listed for you the must-have games of 2004. They have all scored at least a 9.0 or higher in OXM, since January of 2004.
Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time
Tony Hawk's Underground
MVP Baseball 2004
Ninja Gaiden
Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell: Pandora Tomorrow
RalliSport Challenge 2
TOCA Race Driver 2
The Chronicles of Riddick: Escape from Butcher Bay
NCAA Football 2005
Madden NFL 2005
ESPN NFL 2K5
Burnout 3: Takedown
Tiger Woods PGA Tour 2005

One of my personal faves that missed the Editor's Choice Award by .1 of a point...Fable.

6. Get Halo 2. Though I do not recommend this game to many, since I am not a fan of Halo, I guess you should pick it up since that is the sole reason you are getting an Xbox in the first place.

7. ENJOY!

Seems like you have never read an Xbox Nation (XBN). Its much more interesting, it was in-depht articles (a preview in OXM has two pages of screenshots and only one or two paragraphs of info). It has much less ads, which leaves some place for much more content (OXM has a ratio of about 2 ad pages for 1 real page).

The only advantage of OXM is the dvd, but if your looking for real, unbiased and interesting info about the Xbox then XBN is byfar the best. I strongly suggest you go right away and buy one just to see.

Oh. By the way Suicide42, check out this. You may want to hold off till October 31st. ;)

i couldnt disagree more. I think GTA feels so unatural on the PC. it feels great on Xbox and PS2.

im not buying xbox for 1 game = halo2...ill just wait for it to come to pc....not that i im in a hurry to play fps on thumbstick.

sorry auto-aim and aiming with thumbstick is hell in gta for me....i always buy ps2 version and 6 months later pc version for real controls and online mods.

I just can't stand using a keyboard for any 3rd person game (especially stealth titles) Analogue movement adds to the immersion so much in titles like Thief and Splinter Cell (in the same way it does for Mario 64 - imagine playing that with a keyboard :/) It really feels like you're sneaking about. Keyboard control is too 'clunky'.

None of these games really need a mouse to aim with either (no twitch aiming required :)) - and as such analogue aiming is fine.

(I've played these games on both formats too - guess we'll have to agree to disagree :))

As for GTA - I prefer driving with a joypad over a keyboard, while sitting on the sofa and passing the pad about with mates.

user name, thanks for the info :) teh only trouble is im in the UK... so that deal probally wont apply for me.

and im not really sure, as most of the games will come out on the PC anyway... but im about 80% for just going out and buying one. after all, that would mean i have all 3 consoles and a PC- which means that i could get EVERY decent game :)

i have £220, Xbox costs £99, and games are about £40- and i want money left for Halo2 and HL2, so im only going to get 1 game. but what should it be? atm im probally going to get fable, becuase i like the way your character grows. i might buy Halo1 as well if its cheap- to get some practice in.

one more thing.. do i need a memory card? the Xbox has internal memory doesnt it, so im presuming i dont need one?

thanks :)

*edit* btw, i had GTA:VC on the PS2 and completed it twice. then when my ps2 broke (little did i know it would start working again randomly after 6 months) i sold all my games, and bought GTA:VC for the PC. and i must say i liked GTA on the PC about 10 times more. i porbally should have liked it less- after all, the controls arent as good with the helicopters and such, and i HAD allready bored myself out of my mind with it on the PS2... but driving cars with a keyboard and mouse is just so f*cking satisfying. not to mention the fact i made my own radio station, with microsoft sam as the presenter rofl :D not only that but the game looks a LOT smoother, and the loading times between islands are 0.001 second. plus i just <3 my PC.

You won't need a memory card m8 - unless you want to transfer saves to another machine.

And get PES4! ;)
