This site died about October last year IMO when all the 'cool' people who joined back in 2003 started leaving. Now it's just full of children who bicker about stupid shit and discuss and re-discuss the things that were discussed for the first time back in 2003... basically it's boring as phuck.

To be honest, I never expected it to be such a long lsating big part of my life that it is. Well actually the site isn't so much as certain people I've made friends with...

Its always sad when a community breaks apart. 2 years :) We had some fun times... I almost left the site totally when I quit being a mod a while back, maybe I'l take this a nice opportunity to do so. :D I never really voiced my opinion much while I was a mod, because I couldn't be bothered getting involved, but I listened... situations like this have been coming for a long time. The tension has been there in some form or another, for as far as I can remember but never has the site actually gone, if anything its only become stronger because of it.

Lack of mods make this place less and less like a good place to go to.

As far as the community is concerned ... the site doesnt make the community, the games do. Like I said, half life 3 is around the corner (another couple of years of delays and waiting, yay) ... all fan sites are destined to fall sooner or later, just let it go quietly without arguing about the bells and whistles the site would be *so* much better with.

Mainly vets!But there is many exceptions.

Also again...The site hasn't died yet guys...and nor will it for a long time.

It will if nothing changes very soon. Look how quick the others failed. This one has been lucky so far. But if its got nothing to offer.. why would even the hosting service bother with it?

So this leaves munro with two choices.

Suck it up and get the shit done...or keep on doing the same things over and over.

If the site does die...I'd be willing to get a job now in order to pay for hosting and stuff and bring it back to life.

Even if it stays up, many of the users would regard it as dead if things carry on the way they're headed. I mean, so many decent posters have left, and that doesn't looklike it's going to change... sure, I'd never leave this forum, but other people will... including well respected mods. The faster Munro can apply this new content, the better.

But seriously though, your right, things just need a change. There should be plenty to offer with the expansion, mods and everything else. Look how long sites like planethalflife have been around. People just need to get their heads out of their asses it seems.
 
It's not the site that needs a change to stop it dying, it's the dedication of the management.

Umm, you can put as many bells and whistles on as many Wolf3d forums as you like, but you ain't gonna get a community back. If people are leaving the community it's because halflife2 has been and gone. How the site looks or what peoples member names on the forums are does not make the slightest bit of difference at all.

Don has a point too... What has munro done that's so bad? Give the guy a break, he's kept the site going for a long time and asked nothing in return.
 
uh i guess i would be considered a "newer member" but ive picked up soem things. obviously munro owns this site, but whats up with him, is he a mean dude, or is he ruining the site somehow? it just seems like people are fed up with him or somehting. sorry if the answers obvious, but i dont live on the site

I don't really know Munro, so I shouldn't judge him, which is a good point, he doesn't seem part of the community, just some mythical dictator.

I wasn't talking asthetics, I was talking content. With all the HL2 content slated for the future there should be no reason that this community should die just because it's based on a game that came out a few months ago.

Well that doesn't really help, i'm sure they dont really wanna make this into an entire war involving everyone. The intial speak out from the mods was necessary to perhaps kick certain site directors into realising there was a problem. Now thats been achieved, they can sort it out behind closed doors i hope. No need to go making this all petty and involving parts of the community not really involved.

the community is involved, otherwise whats it a community of? Sure, Munro would love for this not to have got out or involved anyone beyond the staff. It's better you do know atleast.
