i heard you can validate your HL2 from any computer with internet access, i dont know how, but i've got an instructor at work, who was playing hl2 on his laptop without a net connection, i'd like to know myself, cause i bought hl2 and found out u needed to log on to steam. i'm not sure if u need to keep logging on, or only need to do it the once

Well supposedly there's a trick to play offline, but it requires you to connect at least once to make it work. If your internet goes out though, I don't think it'll work.

You only have to connect once to set up your Steam account and download the unlock software.

You do not need to keep using the net to play the single game, or to put it another way you can play off line.

Some people seem to have had problems playing off line but I have had no problems at all.

Yeah, me neither. Just let Steam run in offline mode. The way to get it to do that is on the reference card for HL2.

It's no secret trick. Just disconnect from the internet after validating HL2.

No it isn't. The box says an internet connection is required, but a multiplayer-only game is included. In court you could easily point out that they should have had 2 seperate system requirements since everyone assumed you wouldn't need an internet connection for a single player-only game, and that adding that requirement seems to only be for CS which indeed requires an internet connection.

Technically you don't need an internet connection to play HL2 at all. You just need an internet connection for steam, which isn't even mentioned ANYWHERE on the box. I'm waiting idly right now for someone else to figure this out and sue them. Honestly, it's easy. I'm just too lazy.

you don't have to be connected to play, as several have said here. Anyone who tells you otherwise is either mistaken, lying, or stupid.
