I just bought GTA: San Andreas

I can't play it till wednesday, but by the immense size of the map..this thing is HUGE!...i'll update with my impressions
With IGN giving it a 9.9 and gamespot giving it a 9.6, it's gotta be good.

The map is about 3' x 3'...*orgasms*
 
can't play it becuase my ps2 is at my dads - i go there wednesday. i wish i could play it now, trust me
 
What are the most appealing things, for you guys, about the GTA series?
For the life of me, I cannot get into any of these games.
 
Sheer fun factor. If you don't like it now, you probably never will.

Yeah...I don't know whats wrong with me. I'm also shunned for not liking Duke Nukem 3D.

My friends just think I'm a moron. Lord knows I've tried to play the game and get into it, but alas...no luck. I think I'm like 1 of 2 people that doesn't really enjoy these games.
 
I have it, I LOVED gta:3, I liked vice city, and I dislike this game...they get considerably worse each time 'cause it's the exact same game...there is absolutely nothing different (other than setting, and a tad better graphics and a few MINOR gameplay additions)...this feels more like an expansion pack than a new game. I bought it about 4 hours ago, I've only played it for about 40 minutes out of that time. Sorry for the blasphemy but this game just isn't fun anymore.

AHAHAHAHA.

Sorry... but why are you looking forward to san andreas, and expecting an entirely new game? It had a good thing, and san andreas greatly, GREATLY improves on the best aspects of the previous versions and expands it sooo much more. If you want a completely different game, PLAY a completely different game.

I can understand your reasoning. After all, this is the third GTA game (as we currently know it) in like 4 or 5 years.

The PC's equivalent game to GTA are The Elder Scroll games. Those games only come out once every 5 years so you never really get use to the gameplay style of them.

I'm sure I can pick up a PS2 controller and be at home with GTA:SA, even though I haven't played a GTA game in over a year. I don't know if that is a bad thing.

Anyways, I haven't played GTA:SA, but everybody but you says the game is amazing. I'm inclined to agree with everybody else. I just think the GTA series is pretty close to burning itself out.

I can't wait for the PC version. I just hope they seriously up the geometry on all the models and textures rather drastically. I say a GTA:SA commercial today and my eyes bleed from the ugly graphics.

Ehm...maybe you should play it just a little more before judging it...
I don't think reviewers would play a game for 40 minutes and then say: "This shit sucks" and then throw it away and hook up a C&C Lan MP
 
I haven't played GTA:SA just yet...but being a huge fan of GTA3 and GTA:VC...I'm pretty sure I won't be let down. I couldn't care less about the graphics. They don't really affect the gameplay that much in my eyes and I'm willing to forgive the lack of graphics detail when there's an entire state to wander around in.

first, I wasn't looking forward to it, my brother bought it, not me.

Second it doesn't GREATLY improve on anything. The lock on system is still dodgy (at best). The graphics are pretty much the same. I can't think of one thing it actually improves on, maybe you could "enlighten" me. 'cause I just got done playing another hour or two (didn't look at the time when I started, and stopped) and it seems like the exact same game, which was just like another great game.

It was great the first time, okay the second, now it's dull. If another one comes out on the same engine I'm going to take a trip to rockstar and blow up their headquarters....and I'll blame it on the influence of GTA so that the media make a big deal about it :).

Oh and remember to tell us about the new car physics when you try it. I've heard it's much more realistic. When you hit another car your car will stop right that very moment like it would in the real world...

They are a little better, yes...but the bike/motorbike physics are still very very bad....I ran fullspeed into a car on a bike and didn't fall off (mind you, this has happened many times)....the game isn't horrible, it's just not as good as it was 4 years ago (or however many years ago gta3 game out).
 
I'm not sure about this, I liked GTA:Vice City to begin with, but I found it got rather tedious after a couple of weeks and I never had the inclination to attempt and complete it.

I don't know, playing a black gangster isn't something that appeals to me either, and if you don't have a character that you like or a story that you particularly feel interested in I think it's very difficult to get into a game and enjoy it.

Call me a "fanboy" if you will, but quite frankly the main charecter could have been a giant walking penis named bernard and I still would love it...
 
I was going to buy it today but the store fooled me, its not out here until the 29th..(in Sweden)

and to really rub it in the have a chlf with fake San Andreas boxes!! :(

San Andreas is great, especially because of all the little things in it, such as..

1. George Clinton is the DJ of the Funk station, and Axl Rose is the DJ of the rock station.

2. You have home invasion side missions and pimping side missions.

3. You can compete in lowrider hydrolics competitions.

4. The fact that I've played this game for at least 3 hours, done plenty of missions, and have only expored about a fifth of the game's total area.

This game has to be the best Playstation 2 game ever. I mean, it doesn't get much better than this.
 
Aaw man 2 more days... And I'm going to be standing at my favorite game store from 19:00 to midnight on Thursday just to get this.

They had a good deal too. Give them 2 of your games (not too old though) & buy GTA:SA for less than 15$. That's when you go to another game store & buy 2 crappy pre-owned games :E and give them to the other store! Store = teh pwnd :thumbs:

Actually, they told me I could do that
 
I never really got into the GTA games.. It's "fun" for about 10 minutes, then... meh...

That depends on how you play it...if you go from mission to mission then it might get a bit boring, but if you run around and smash things up...then you might laugh a bit...or a lot... or maybe not
 
I'll have to admit, that the caracther and story does not really appeal to me.
 
I am playing it now... :)

I love GTA3, VC games because of a number of things.

It's modeled after a city environment. What's inside of those 'limitations' looks very appealing to me.

Cars, love to drive cars, trucks and motorcylces. It could only be improved if they added a incar view or a speedometer in the HUD for 3rd person and the traffic went a little faster.

Without doing missions, I can run over as many people as possible and create a mess with police on my tail. I can do stunts or explore. And just driving listening to the music is fun.
I don't know exactly why but none of that gets boring. I still play VC to this day.

Then there are the mission...

It sounds like they added a lot to exploring, running through town and just having fun with SA.
