I just got outed.

Yeah, I'm really quite sure of it. Over here, it's almost a prerequisite to spend an hour staring at your feet in church every Sunday. Everyone's forgotten that it's possible to live a positive life without wasting time and energy on an invisible being :/

That would be so weird... I don't know a single person who goes to church regularly, not even my christian friends. And I live in the very capital of the bible-belt of sweden!

my gf goes to church and hates it when i ask her "WHY?"

She wont even talk about it, which pisses me off...

I find it really strange how many families are religious these days

lol, my family (including all relatives) are not religious, do not attend church or any thing like that (Canadian). All the people 20 and under just get drunk/smoke weed all the time, all the adults (over 20) usually just talk with each other alot. If you asked one of them "do you believe in god" they'd probably just say "I dunno, probably not".

Keep in mind, my dad's side of the family are all rednecks.. (I don't mean that in a insulting kind of way, it's the way they are, all got beer guts and what-not..)

Just remember why you're Mom "fruited" out is because she cares about you. Whether you believe in the afterlife or not, she does and is concerned. I'm not sure how much you'll realize how much your parents love you (or any of us) until we have children of our own (if that happens).

Even in Massachusetts...?

Actually that reminds me, the 2001 Census.

I put "None" as my religion.

My Mum seemed quite upset, why don't you put "Church of England"?

I said, "Well, have you been to church recently , or believe in God?"
"No..."
"Well there you go then"

I'm sure people say they are religious out of cultural, force of habit or not wanting to upset family members, not actually practising.

I find it really strange how many families are religious these days - I don't think I know a single relative of mine who attends Church..

I wonder if that's the difference between UK & US perhaps..

Agreed. I have one religious friend. Everyone else I know, young and old, thinks it's a load of old bollox.

It's a difference between europe and america. And I'm serious. I've never seen any major religious influence in the society here in Holland. As far as I know, all of the schools here teach evolution without question, and I've never heard god being mentioned seriously in a political debate. My parents are humanist (a nice word for atheist as far as I understand them) and I only know of one family that believes in the bible.

I'm glad I live here.

All of my family is Religious, however 2 do not goto church but still hold much of the same beliefs. All my cousins, aunts, uncles, grandparents are religious and most attend church. All of my friends in Utah, except 2 are Mormon, however the other two are religious.

And of course, I am also religious.

Haha, wow. Major differences.

Then why do you like Doooooom sooooo much?

Me and my dad sometimes talk about how silly religions are.

Do I win?

hands down

I'm sure people say they are religious out of cultural, force of habit or not wanting to upset family members, not actually practicing.

I usually tell people I'm Christian just to avoid getting into all the details of my actual beliefs(or lack thereof) the majority of the population over here(Canada/U.A.E) holds to some kind of religious belief or the other and i really don't like getting into the details when all the person wants to do is "label" you i.e "he isn't a terrorist" :p. I guess it also has to do with respecting what other people believe i wouldn't want to trample over peoples ideas when they ask me about atheism because i tend to get a bit passionate/critical when talking about certain "fundamentalist" ideologies . What do you guys normally tell people ? do you get into all the details ?

A whole crapload of people put 'jedi' two censuses ago, but they got counted as Aethiests I think.

I wish Jedi was a religion, I mean, how cool would that be. 'You will buy me alcohol', 'You will buy me that 2k guitar'. Brilliant.

the thing that aggrivates me is that you shouldnt have to tell your mom that your "Still" a good person. Since when is religion directly related to people acting good? I wouldnt of went that route with explaining it to her, but then again, its easier than getting into a debate.

No one I know believe in God, at least not the Christian one.

Okay, slightly off topic but if you really BELIEVE something to be correct, how can you tolerate the opinions of others that believe equally hard in things that conflict with your own belief?
I hold no firm beliefs of my own due to this - everyone thinks they are right, so that means (logically) other people are going to be wrong. Geo, if your mum can tolerate your set of beliefs, even though they're different to hers, then props to her.

I think you'll find these people agree with you, they just think everyone else is wrong. Personally, I firmly believe they're all mentalists. And i'm right! 100%, no doubt about it :)

my dad, mom, brother, sister, and I don't believe in god.

We're heathens i guess then D:

Nope, you're Atheists :p

I just say im Atheist and when they ask why, I tell them "im not going to get into it."

But then that starts a debate, and everyone knows that debating this is an exercise in futility.
