I want one

I ve seen it on engadage site, its amazing,

how much is it going to cost ?.... £3000-£5000 > more

crap!!

It's not for home use. It's the only thing that could bring back Arcades. And - it was my idea. I'm glad someone else either thought of it also, or saw what I wrote when I first joined this forum. I know I would never have the money to build it. I suppose I should have got a patent and sold the idea like my brother has done before.

It's exactly what I described, let me see if I can dig up that thread. I can't believe this! =/

That kicks so much ass!

Still, I would take an HDTV and a 360 over that

That looks disorienting, tbh.

OK. I found it. I thought this is what I had described, but my idea is different. I suggested to stand on a very very large track-ball, which was a popular input device in the arcades. This way when you walk, you stay in place, but it can track the direction you travel. This circle idea 'VirtuaSphere' is the same concept, but it might be much better. Anyway, I am very glad to see that Virtual Reality is coming. And good stuff, not that crap you saw in those early 90's movies.

Here's the thread and I'll quote myself. I'm sort of proud or something? :D

This is the thread.

I would like to invent a virtual reality glasses and room with some kind of huge trackball to stand on so when you walk or run in the game , but you don't run into the wall irl. [irl = in real life]

The ultimate 3D experience with a decent mock up of some real world locations and with simulated machine guns. 1 for each hand, they would be like the input devices.

but you could walk down the street and just straight get in a fight with some dude, just cold punch him in the face, then you start fighting(no guns version) then you do like some karate kid shit and kick his ass. If you get hit the screen can blur and replicate eye damage, but other than that you dont feel pain so thats why its so cool!
Alright just imagine something convincingly like real life, but you can do whatever you want. you are invincable? and people run in fear and terror when they see what you have become becuase you are bullet proof.

or.. you could just lose the game if you take too much damage.

Shoot! Kill! rob! run! maim!
What I imagined was graphics more superior to Crysis however, so it will be time. But I think an idea like the VirtuaSphere or could actually bring back the Arcades. There would be a reason to go there again - without a doubt. I mean shit, they even have places were you can go and play lazer tag (a game played with a lazer pointer gun and everyone wears sensors that detect if you are shot) and paintball, so why not virtual reality arcades?

I'd pay a 10 dollars to try it for a 5 minutes. It might be addictive.

It's certainly a cash cow. At that suggested price it could make $60 per hour - per person. They could have 32 player virtual reality games (FPS's) and each person stands in one of those giant track-ball mouse-wheels.
All it is, is a bit stupid steel ball with sensors. Not expensive really, compared to conventional arcade machines it's not far off.

There is also this thread where I mentioned what the games could be like:

Also said this which is similar to Kick-ass kung fu. I don't know if you guys saw this game yet. A motion sensor game where you fight the air and it shows you kicking ass on the game.

I was just imagining in my VR glasses, walking down a near life-like mock up of downtown london, like around some kind of cobblestone, water fountains, park benches, and just walking up to someone and start kicking thier ass GTA style. .. some fun could come of a game like this

you swing your arms and legs, and they are connected to motion sensors, like nintendo's power glove or Sonys eye toy...

WOW! I would have to say this would be the most amazing gaming technology I have seen this year. If they could improve the graphics like the 360s there is no disbelief in my mind that they would have a mass production of these items all around the world. Nice find!

Thats right. The future is going to rule!

Here is where I described what grand theft auto massively multi-player game could be like back on 9-11-05. I think it's very interesting, of course that's because this is what I day-dream about. I wouldn't have thought about it or typed it if I didn't think it was interesting:

You can shrug off this stuff if you want, I'm sure many were skeptical of the light bulb and the gasoline engine.

If this is actually implemented in a way that it will be cheap in accessible within the next 50 years, I think this might actually have a noticable effect on american weight and excercise problems, I mean shit, if can run and play HL2 at the same time, I'm all for it.

I imagine EA is gonna spam tons of sports games if it ever comes out, but this time games like '100m sprint 2007' or 'Ultimate marathon 2008'

lol. true. But we are talking 8-15 years not 50.

Hmm...

For a sprint running arcade game they could easily create a game using something like tread-mill exercise equipment. I've seen in movies where the guy is walking on the treadmill, in front of a huge projection screen were the scenery goes past at the speed you run. Like running a trail.

They could do the same for a bicycle game.

Head-to-head arcade machines, hooked-up for competition - or race against a field of computer competitors.

I think VR goggles can do far more damage to your eyes then a computer screen can. So nope I won't be trying that.

Yeah, when you're looking at a screen this close to your eyes your putting huge amount of strain on your cornea. HOWEVER, using specific lenses and screen sizes and quite a bit of research, you could probably make VR gogles that aren't that bad for you.

For one thing 8-15 is indeed WITHIN 50 years. But i seriously doubt this will be cheaply and pubicly availabe to the public in less than 8 years.

Get a work out while playing fps games, awesome.. exploring a crysis like environment in that thing.. dear god, 6 mile jog anyone?

There are some pretty cool glasses on the market that have encased mini LCD screens, for that extra immersion. Always fancied buying some, ive seen some going on ebay before for like £130

edit: when you die in that thing I'd have it so it spun suddenly to trip you up.

Finally a way to get gamers fit. Might be a good idea for me. *shrugs*

actually might be a good thing for a lot of people ..why go jogging on a treadmill while watching oprah when you could play a game and get the same level of fitness ..if they were to tailor a game for people trying to lose weight, get in shape or what have you it could be a real breakthrough for the gaming industry. Gaming could become an everyday part of life (outside of people like us)

that was a cool video, but i'm more excited about the music in the video; animatrix ftw

It reminded me of that game in American Gladiators where the players are in a big ball and try to roll in a raised hole.

I know that some people have probably already mentioned such... but people could really benefit from these things if they became popular. Exercise would become fun for gamers quite possibly... Because when you're running around killing people and doing headshots, it'd be much more enjoyable than sitting at a computer doing it. You get the rush of adrenaline quite possibly.

It could slim down us gamers!

I can see a new headline, though.

NEW CYBERREALITY MACHINE CAUSES BOY TO RAMPAGE AROUND SCHOOL, KILLING 19

"Child Exercises to Death".

Parents response. "Why must we subject our children to this... this... EXERCISE! Little timmy was so engrossed in his game he didn't sense the messages his body was sending him, that he was exercising too much!"

Although that could really be a problem.
