I want to beat the crap out of the G-Man

In the first Half-Life and its expansion materials, I wanted to beat the living shit out of the G-Man. He flounced around behind closed doors, and no matter how hard you butted the wall, you could never get to him. For me, this was one of the main attractions of the G-Man. He was mysterious, he was untouchable, he was annoying, and he was remote. We learned just enough at the end to keep us satisfied.

Now we're seeing him as the main speaker for Hl2 videos, and the mystery around the guy has pulled back some more, and it displeases me. He doesn't seem to have the same aura about him in the E3 videos, but hell, he isn't in game, he's just speaking a couple sentences. I sure hope we don't encounter him *THAT* much in Half-Life 2 -- perhaps getting an assignment while he lounges behind a desk, steepled in shadow, or we see him jump off a trolley to say a few words before being whisked away.

To really up the ante, they could show his vulnerable side. In Half-Life, he was always in control, despite monsters and things going crazy all around him. It would be awesome if late in Hl2 things start to get the best of him and you see him fighting a monster off with his briefcase, and then straightening his tie breathing heavily, or something like that. The emotional payoff would be huge. And wouldn't it be cool if you see him in a showdown with an enormous boss? The G-Man uncloaked?

I concur wholeheartedly. As the umpteenth user with a gman avatar, I hope they treat this character well and the situations you have described sound pretty mint.

You have anger management issues.... Killing the G-Man?!? - he's a lovable character. Without him you would never be able to go on all these extreme adventures.

I killed him. At the start of the game when hes on the wallway above you i shot him like 20 times and threw a gren at him.

Bastard has some kind of invincibility hack. He should be banned.

G-man is friend, not foe!

I think the G-man will act the same as in Hl1. I can't see him actively ordering Gordon to do things. He works better at just secretly removing all other options, forcing the subordinate to do things his way.

the g-man is a very cool charcter in the game... but man how annoying. the one thing i hated most, was how he toyed wit ya. lol ahahah... i would love to smoke em right in the face and say: who's your daddy biaaaatch!? lol

Peace

Mike

G-Man's too ballsy to be killed by mortal weapons. I want to see him fight off an alien creature or some other enemy too, but he wouldn't be winded from swatting something with his briefcase. He wouldn't even break a sweat as he pulls the 9mm from the briefcase and puts a bullet soundly through the thing's head.

Remember that the G-Man, in his youth, weathered a situation or two exactly like Freeman and Shephard. One man, all odds against him, and he came out on top to become a cryptic suit.

G-man a friend? Not in my wildest dreams. The hacker just laughed his beard off while watching Gordon struggling the invasion in HL1. I would like to have a drivable strider and get a change to spear him with its spiky legs. And yeah, he should get banned.

He's secretly an Angry Lawyer, just like me. All he needs is to make his suit black, get a maroon tie, and get a younger complexion, and he's there.

Well, since he has a gun in his briefcase, I think he knows how to fight.

The g-man would pwn Gordon, since he's only a dog.

I remember some interview with gabe or doug. They where asked if the G-man was invincible again, they answered something like. It would be a very very bad idea to shoot him.

I can't kill gman, he's so cool! Always reminds me of the 'smoking man' from X-Files.

big problem, if the gman is having trouble dealing with a situation, how bad is it really?

I love that we're going to learn more about the G-Man. I don't think that it ought to detract from his aura of power, control and mystique necessarily - after all, enough needs to be kept secret to stop him becoming bland and predictable.
But I don't want to see his compassionate side, because that WOULD detract from his character. I don't want to see him die or fight - neither fits him, he seems above both of them.

You can't kill him, he's Gordon's dad. Join with him and destroy the rebel forces forever.

gordon - 'You killed my father...'
gman - 'No Gordon... I AM your father...'
gordon - 'NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO'
gman - 'fancy a pint?'
gordon - 'oh go on then.'

Yeah, he doesn't need to fight or anything to be cool, just talk, hold that case and say something inspirational to Freeman. :E

Actually, I think the G-Man is the Unfrozen Caveman Lawyer! Words are magically appearing on this screen in front of me when I hit these keys on this "keyboard". It frightens me....

gman is a badass character. i think in HL2 he'll be just as mysterious, playing everyone from the shadows. i think you might learn more (though not a lot) through other characters, what they say about him, and how theyre affected by him. i cant wait to get at this game.

The gun is in his briefcase because the G-man is actually made out of guns.
So, logically, shooting bullets into him only makes him stronger.

Yeah, but why keep a gun there if he can't die?

Gman shows for the first time.. first thing i will do is place a bullet in his head and then
well mrrrr. freeman. i hoped it didn't have to come to this. my ahhh.. employers have given me the authority to terrrrminate your employment if you were to show any remote sence of rebelion ... so mr. freeman heres to your end.

If the e32k4 video is anything to go by you won't have a weapon the first time you meet him.

No, you will probably not have a weapon when you first meet him, but you will maybe meet him later.

The G-man looks less "EVIL" in the presentation video's, I guess the 10 Years between HL and HL² have changed him into a more reasonable person.

There were no facial animations, so he couldn't look less evil :D

On a semi-realted topic:

Who is the voice actor for the G-Man character?

Imagine going through you local drive-thru fast food joint and ordering in that voice and getting some pimply 15 year old HL2 nut taking your order. You would scare the shit out of him. It would rock!

"Well, Brrrrendan - the time has come for you to take my orderrrrr...Are you up to the tasssssk...?"

So little can say so much! Why does he talk so slow? Well, it doesn't really matter! Tis cool anyway. I love that facial animation video of the G-man, but i was kind of scary when he flared his eyebrows, i bet he scares away ladies!

"Why heeeeeeello yooooooung lady!"

Constipation sucks!

"Freeeeeeeman, I need a shittttttt?!?" - that's why he talks that way.

I was macro inspired by Codgo.

Yeah i remember reading that too. I wonder what happens if you shoot him? Does he "Matrix Style" kick your ass, or does the world end?

Probably the game just ends in a similar fashion to when you shoot a vital NPC in HL1.

im gonna laugh my ass off , if in the end of the game had a huge twist to it... the g-man was screwing gordon over from the beginning. And in the end u have to fight him. lol that would be cool

PEACE

I don't want to kill the G-Man (yet...) but I'd certainly like to toss him around a bit with the manipulator.
Do some G-Man Juggling.

Dangling him from his foot while he spitted vile insults at you would be hilarious. We will probably never get a crack at him, so somebody should make a mini-mod when the game comes out so we can toss him around a little in some custom map.

I reckon the Gman has an MP5K in his briefcase and the trigger on the handle
