Just something i was thinking about , do u think ID software is rushing doom 3 and releasing it as early as aug 3rd just so they can release it b4 hl2 , coz which ever one of these 2 highly aniticipated games comes out first , it might get more sales. Also ID might be kinda scared that HL2 will be much better than DooM 3 so they wanna rush it out, then patch it up.

About as likely as VALVe rushing HL2 to beat D3 out the door.

 Have no idea I have not read any material or any indication on progress they've had with the game so. But I don't why would they rush just to get it out sooner, sure to sell faster... but we all know that everyone wants Half-Life 2 as badly as Doom III if not more. The majority of people will buy both products right?

No. They have made it perfectly clear they are releasing it... "when its done".

I don't expect iD are rushing Doom 3 - besides they've had plenty of time to polish this to a good enough level. Polish! I demand polish!

Na. Doom3 was suppost to be released almost a year ago, so it anything they're late.

Does any1 know nething about the Multiplayer of DooM 3 , i heard it was only deathmatch , is that true?

Rumors got it that it only allows 4 people to play at once.

Yes, this is true. However, mods will be able to change this.

The engine is hard coded at a 16 player cap.

It will have the basics of MP, ones that don't take to long to code and play test.... D³ is mainly SP, but they wanted to satisfy you all with MP :)

Of course, just don't take it like your daddy's DM... This is all revamped...

Why would they rush it? It would hurt their product in the long run. They announced it was coming out in summer, and didn't even go to E3 because they were to busy finishing it up, and well that time probably gave them an edge over HL2....

I don't think a 3 day game show would make much difference on a 5 year game.

Where did you hear it was hard coded at 16 players? I've never heard that. Could you provide a link please?

Who cares... they both should release the games and patch them later if there are small bugs that no one will notice when playing through normally

Neither id or Valve have any reason to rush their games. Both titles are legends, seem like quality games, and will sell excellently no matter when they are released. Id isn't concerned with what Valve is doing.

The day id rush a game is the day I swallow silverware. They may be putting in those extra hours day and night, but they sure as hell aren't cutting corners or content just to beat the competition to release. Same goes for Valve, too.

Tim Willits: The player limit is fully scalable. We picked four for a number of reasons but those can be scaled up...

i don't think ID or Valve think they need to rush their games for release.. both are gonna be great and many here have said they will purchase both and this is just a very small sample of pple.

i think both games will do good with sales. no worries

Rushing it, no. I think they've been pretty close enough to being done to where they can comfortably pick their release date, and they waited until more concrete info on Half-Life 2's release. That way, they could release their product a bit sooner and get in on all of the sales from the people who are on the fence and will only buy one or the other. Some are gonna say that's not true, but it damn sure looks like it. Literally 2-3 days after Gabe said that whole "Half-Life 2 to Vivendi in August thing", the Doom3 date started popping up on sites as "just announced, confirmed, etc."

Id is smart, they will take advantage and take the sales they may not have otherwise gotten had they released afterward or at the same time.

From the way things are going, the company that takes the longest to finish it wins :/

Honestly, as far as I can tell, VALVe and iD are both good "friends." I'm sure they keep eachother up-to-date on eachother's game's status..

I could be wrong, but I swear I remember Gabe saying him and Carmack were friends and that the guys at iD were nice people

:dozey: They lie, they don't want people to know that they really hate each others guts!

Doesn't that mean DNF will win? :dozey:

All I have to say is that Valve and ID better hurry up. I want to be playing at least one of them by August 15.

So they expect 3rd party mods to try to push the limits of a new multi-player engine and code with sacrifices to quality? Wow.

Imagine 6 v 6 RTCW matches using the Doom 3 engine *cums in pants!*

No. Probably more along the lines of they want 3rd party mods to push the limits of it because not many ordinary people's pc's will be able to handle D3 + 16 people as well.

Or maybe its just because its a single player game and ID really dont give a shit about doom3 MP to spend much time on it.

Didn't Gabe use to work at id?

Edit: Nope. Microsoft actually. Dave Riller used to work at id though, apparently.

it will be a good thing if one of these two game is released before september, it will be a even better thing if both of them are released before september. no time for gaming during school

Wow a whole 4 players. [/sarcasm]

it won't be enough for anything like dm, teamdm, etc. however 4 players will be excellent for coop mode online. Too many people for coop, the game won't be scary anymore(like in sven co-op, 32 players massacre innocent monsters). With 4 people only, u won't feel that alone, but the atmosphere remain scary and u try more to take care of ur teamates who do the same to u, that will be great coop mode online. I heard that doom3 is going to have coop.

4 players is more than enough for an intense, dark, atomospheric game of DM on a small. cramped map..

Why do people always insist on bashing D3 for the stupidest reasons? (not directed at you, Newbie's Journey)

For on-line gaming I perfer 4-6 players. That's the most I'll play with. I might play with 8 if I'm with friends but that's it.

I've found I enjoy DM games most with fewer people

However, I enjoy CS with around 20.. any higher, and it sucks, I don't like any lower than 12.. then again, that's only 6 opponents, so I guess it's technically pretty low :)

Even if Doom III has a 4 player max that's perfect for me.

4 is plenty.
To much idiots playing on multiplayer.

At least there will be less.
I think games have like 32 players on multiplayer just to piss me off.
My shit got ruined with RTCW: Enemy Territory:/

Yes, 4 player deathmatch rules. Games that small you can actually have a conversation/trash-talk your opponents. Plus, 4 player deathmatch will be a nice change of pace from games like Battlefied Vietnam and UT2K4.

Assholes tend to avoid 4 person games and even if they do join they usually leave after about 5 minutes.

while i don't think 4 player MP is bad idea.. i do think that we as gamers are in a ERA where 16-20 player MP limits is a very common theme amoung MP games.. and with ID breaking the trend.. it will take some time for pple to realize that smaller MP size can be exciting as well.

it is good to hear tho that the Doom3 engine is not limited to 4 player limits by default... meaning modders can create mods with higher player limits and such... and that is a good thing for those who enjoy the clan experience and generally game with 4-8 pple at any given time.
