ID rushing D00M 3 so it would hit shelves b4 hl2?

It still doesn't make sense why id put that limit there in the first place. We can always play a 4 player deathmatch if we want to... I can start up DoD and find a server with 3 other people on it, or I can join one with 31 other people on it. Hell, I could find a 4 player game in Battlefield Vietnam. You can always play a 4 player game reagardless of what the limit is. If it's fun people will play it. They don't need to be forced to.

Doom 3 mods

Anyone know of a doom 3 mod resource site?

I hope that someone remakes doom 1 and 2 with the doom 3 engine.. that would totally own

Well their halfway there, considering Doom3 is a remake of the original Doom.

is Doom III even a modding platform, will there be an sdk or what? My current POV is that Quake IV will be the mod platform.. but they wouldent just hand there big modable game to Raven would they? eh I hope this all works out .

Ya, there are going to be quite a few modders messing aroud with D3 I believe.

Sorry my bad, I meant someone should remake doom 1 and doom 2 "as they were" using the new doom 3 game engine

Just something i was thinking about , do u think ID software is rushing doom 3 and releasing it as early as aug 3rd just so they can release it b4 hl2 , coz which ever one of these 2 highly aniticipated games comes out first , it might get more sales. Also ID might be kinda scared that HL2 will be much better than DooM 3 so they wanna rush it out, then patch it up.

I don't see why either company should rush things. Doom 3 fans will buy Doom 3 no matter what, and Half-Life 2 fans will do the same with Half-Life 2. Many, if not most, will buy both.

It's not a remake, it's a different game.

Doom 3 Gone Gold

Today, by all accounts. Watch the web for news.

It is a remake, isn't it - of the original Doom?

ID did it so that they could have Doom they way they wanted it to be, if I'm not mistaken.

Yes it's a retelling of the original Doom, done "as if Doom and Doom 2 never happened".

Neither id or Valve have any reason to rush their games. Both titles are legends, seem like quality games, and will sell excellently no matter when they are released. Id isn't concerned with what Valve is doing.

Agreed.

As others in the thread have said...Doesn't matter who released first or second: those who will buy Doom3 will buy Doom3, those who will buy HL2 will buy HL2, those who will buy both, will buy both.

Both companies know this and I highly doubt either are rushed. They both know where their game stands with the "people" and they have no worries at all about it selling. Rabid fans of both games will wait no matter how long.

I would imagine there are probably more who will buy both, than those who will buy one or the other ( not saying the day they are released, but eventually most gamers will pick up both).

They aren't rushed, but you are out of your mind if you don't think Id would like to release their game before HL2. Sure, there are people who are going to be buying Half-Life 2 no matter what, or buying both no matter what, but there will also be a lot of people who are undecided, and will just buy whichever is out when they are next at the store. Whichever game comes out first out of the two will get the sales of the people who are on the fence between the two, not to mention the people that don't follow pc gaming to the point where they are up on every game's release dates.

Just asking, but what do you guys think Doom3 has that Half-life doesn't?

The only things I see is Doom has better graphics, slightly, and a gloomier/scarier setting. Don't use being a sequel as a reason, which did you spend more time playing, half-life or doom?

Am I missing something? I'm sure they're both excellent games, but Half-life seems to promise more. (keyword: 'promise'. unless merc went and played Doom3 as well)

I probably end up getting both, but o well

What we've seen of Doom 3's single-player, so far, seems extremely impressive. Its graphics are nothing short of amazing, and the game sounds fantastic as well. What's more, while Doom 3 might have previously seemed like a rather straightforward shooter, it actually seems to have a number of interesting additional gameplay elements that directly affect the game. We earnestly hope that the rest of the single-player game can be as consistently atmospheric, good-looking, and as exciting as what we've seen so far.

Punisher...what the hell are you talking about. I can't even comprehend what exactly you mean, are you trying to say you don't get why anyone would want to buy Doom3? Because of Half-Life 2?

Also I played Doom a hell of a lot more than Half-Life.

I sure didnt Doom got dumb. They couldn't redo Doom in the D3 engine like HL can. The D3 engine would cry your comp to sleep if you tried having all those enemy coming at you in one vast blob.

It's really not about which game has more. I see two games that are going to be very different experiences from each other and I can guarantee you won't get a 'Doom3 experience' out of HL2 and you won't get a 'HL2 experience' out of Doom3.

Most players go hop on what ever server has the most players. It does not matter if there are 20 players on a 4 player map ... people will still join it. This makes the gameplay look bad when it is not, the players are just idiots. This 4 player limit if it does anything it fixes the idiots impulse to join what ever server has the most players.

From an ID interview once (I think PC Gamer) they said if you drop down the counsle and type /editor D3-Radiant launches. Add in the fact that they have some type of custom sound program they added in early on for Trent and you have a good deal of modding power right there. What I would like and hope to see is a program to create models that ships with Doom 3 ... like a dumbed down version of Z-Brush or Gmax.

hey all i know is that... i preorded doom 3 at eb games two months ago... whenever i go in and ask they keep on telling me july 17th. wonder it it will hold up to that?

PEACE!

Mike

Again, I just feel that the August 3rd date is something to be reckoned with. iD / Activision has neither confirmed nor denied it. All we got from Activision was that it was news to them, and they still insisted that Doom 3 will be done "When its done." But when asked about Gamestop's "confirmed release date" logo on their website, Activision replied with that it was "Interesting". Still no word from iD, but I personally think it will be available August 3rd; perhaps slightly earlier.

probably your rite....but half life 2 will get more sales, think bout it

Yeah there's no doubt Half-Life 2 will sell more. Which is even more of a reason why Id are releasing it ahead of it.

As for the validity of the August 3rd date, I may have posted this already in this thread, but I'm too lazy to check and I guess no one read it anyway, but here's why I think it's valid. In March, Gamespot ran a news article saying Doom3 was coming out in April. In less than 10 minutes, it was taken down. Here we have two high-profile game retailers saying the game is CONFIRMED for August 3rd, and Activision/Id hasn't made them take it down. That simple little detail gives it a 90% chance I'd say of being correct. Id/Activision would have made them change that statement last week if it weren't true.

Technically, no half life 2 shouldnt sell more. While half life might of revolutionized, what game do you think inspired the whole FPS genre and valve? Doom of course...anyone that is old enough to off played doom way back in the day would know that doom had alot more going for it than half life did on release....Doom was amazing, there was nothing like it at the time unless of course you compare pong to doom.

At the end of the day, all kids (atm) that have never played doom when it was important (when there was'nt games like farcry/half life to compare it to) probably wont see anything special about it and will ultimately pick half life 2 anyday over it, on the other bandwagon is the "older" people that did play doom for what it was, when it was the only game of its type and when nothing compared to it and will buy both and probably not have a preference which is better because they are both totally different games - you will play half life 2 because its the sequel to half life - you will play doom because its doom.

Ill be buying both, i dont care if i have to trade all my 37 ps2 games for them both i WILL have both on release :smoking:

technically it should

i am one of the people that appreciates doom for what it did for the fps genre but regardless of what "doom was" or "half-life is" the half-life francise has sold MUCH more copies than the doom francise over the years and there's no reason to believe that that trend should change.

I don't understand how any fps fan can miss out on Doom 3! It's Doom ffs - a massive part of gaming history (especially pc gaming). It's a must buy, even just to see how far things have moved on. Christ, it'll be worth owning just to experience the engine.

(it's not as though there are loads of good shooters competing for our time, is it? For years we've had nothing but crap to play, untill atlast 2 good shooters are on the horizon at the same time! :/ Buy them both, and rejoice \o/)

Well put .

Indeed, but alot of people playing FPS nowadays haven't played Doom. Actually that reminds me, I was talking to a big Half-Life 2 fan, and when I brought up Doom3, he asked "Doom?...Don't the first Dooms suck?"

....

....

That was my reaction pretty much.

Haha, 'technically' ... TECHNICALLY ... tell me the math and science you have been using to justify the use of that term before either game has come out!

None of us know what game will sell better.

If Doom 3 comes out in August and the xbox version in september then it may sell ass loads of copys. All the cutting edge PC gamers will get hyped up during August and when they go back to school in September they will convince all there Counsle peers to go get the Xbox version.

Remember Doom 3 will be the best looking X-box title EVER ... that alone will make the game sell ass loads

Doom 3 is Doom so that will make it sell ass loads

Doom 3 is a new ID software engine so MODers will flock to it and that will make it sell ass loads

And if the game ends up being fun that will help it sell ass loads ...

Ok my 'we-can't-tell-what-game-will-sell-more' rant has ended in me talking about the ass loads of copys that Doom 3 will sell ... eh ... but what ever ... I'm a hypocrite

don't get on my case for the word technically, i just used it in a response to the person that stated it "technically shouldn't"

also replace the words doom with half-life and ID with valve and you can make the same exact statements about HL2

i totally agree on the popularity of the doom francise. i grew up playing it myself. and honestly i don't know, nor care which one will sell more, but the fact is, no matter how revolutionary doom was or how much nostalgia there is surrounding the franchise, the half-life francise and it's related mods have sold a ton of more copies and currently with all the mod support and source ports appeal to a much larger market than doom3. of course this can change down the road, but currently all doom 3 has going for it is a single player game and a very limited multiplayer experience whereas at release halflife has it's single player game as well as various ports of equally popular multiplayer mods (CS:S, DoD:S, etc.).

right if ID is rushing doom 3 out the door and VALVE is rushing half life 2 out the door. UNLESS THERES 2 DOORS THERS GONNA BE CONFLICT.

I remember when half life 1 first came out.
A lawsuit occured and they(valve) told the creators of Sin to release their game early. Still riddled with bugs, the game got poor marks and half-life got gold over and over.

I don't remember hearing anything about that. SiN and Half-Life got reviewed on the same day according to Gamespot.

There's always a backdoor! There must be!

Gamestop still has the official date announcement on their site, and so has EB games.
