heres my point. it would make sense for vivendi to keep hl2 till april so they could milk CZ for all its worth. because on average what game would you choose if you could buy only one that quarter, hl2 or CZ?
not a tough choice for an fps gamer that has an adequate system and is not a hardcore CS player right? they would pay their $50, and CZ would be history. thats scenario #1
scenario #2 now on the other hand. if CZ came out and hl2 was delayed till april, an fps gamer now has this choice. buy a new halflife/cs product, or hold off till hl2. many people will crack and get CZ(i probably will). then comes april, you give $50 for hl2. now what profit does vivendi/valve get? $100. double what they would have got if they released hl2 near CZ from an 'average' gamer.(dont nail me on prices, im not sure what the exact prices are, but you get the point)
now i know there are exceptions, like people choosing a different game besides a valve product. but im coming from the perspective of valve/vivendi. and i can't think of a better way to do it financially for them then scenario #2. agree? disagree? why?
