If cs:s beta is coming LATE this summer , then i guess hl2 release will be fall :(

Interesting thoughts impulse. I'm growing suspicious of all this CS:S media. My overly paranoid sense is telling me that Valve may be preparing to delay HL2 further and to soften the blow of such an announcement by giving people the CS:S beta/lots of media.

Again, i'm overly paranoid about such things.

It's okay, it's understandable: hell even I think all this CS shenanigan is a cover for another delay.

My main points.
1. I like the fact that they are talking about transferring resources to something else, it means they have resources to transfer, a.k.a. they are not needed for HL2

2. Now someone correct me if I'm wrong but wouldn't they want HL2 to be the FIRST source game out there?

3. I think HL2 would be also nearly mandatory, because the source engine would already be there, instead of having to download it.

4. Later does not mean late, it's already been said but I'm just reiterating it...Let's say I say “I’ll do it later today” it doesn’t mean that I’m gonna do something at 11 pm right before the day ends…just later, as in not now.

well mislead can be interpreted into "lied to". They go hand in hand :)
 
ok , perhaps css will come out seperately from hl2, but uh, wasn't the multiplayer aspect supposed to be availble same day as hl2 single player?

I'd be happy actually if cs source came out on a different date than hl2, meaning there would be multiplayer aside from porting . . .

I disagree, I want them to release it when it is done. HL1 was almost exactly a year late and it was worth waiting for... I want HL2 to be the same.

It might be possible that CS:S beta is a way to beta-test the Source engine, which is also used for Half-Life 2. So, instead of saying "HL2 is not out because we are not sure that Source is bug free", Valve says that you guys will be able to test CS:S which is really a test for Source.

In this case, more delays. Sorry. :angry:

goddamnit, i just lost my excitement for HL2 and it isn't coming back! I watched all of the vids i could but there was nothing....

I am off to Europe soon so i'll worry about it later...:(

Just because they are "Testing Source" with CS:S doesn't mean HL2 will come later.

Think of it this way, CS:S could come in a few weeks (2-3 weeks) a month goes by, there we go. On my count, thats still summer.

The fact you need HL2 to play the CS:Source game doesnt spring to anyones minds, that the reason its coming out later is because HL2 has to be out first?
 
No we shouldn't need HL2 for CS:S. We just need SOURCE. Same should go for cs & hl1 I guess.
 
Check the Valve info thread people. Gabe has pretty much sorted any questions people have had. The CS:S beta will be quite limited but it will allow Valve to try the Source engine out on a mainstream audience in preparation of the big release of HL2. I dunno why people think a limited public beta counts as a 'release' of a Source game. I don't think CS:S will even push the engine that much, it will just make use of it so that Valve knows it works well enough on a variety of systems. Once they know what they need to know, the final loose ends will be tied and HL2 and the Source ports will be unleashed come late August.

But the point is that HL2 will release after the feedback for CS:S and so no chance of its release in this summer... :x

CS:S beta will last 2 weeks..

The beta will end come mid-August. That gives Valve just over a month to fix the bugs found in the beta, many of which would've been dealt with during the 2 week period anyway. I wouldn't be surprised if the game is ready to ship a week after the beta ends.
 
Dates are so funny especially when VALVe doesn't give them out nor Vivendi.
 
After the HL2 9/30 disaster, I don't understand why Valve didn't just sit on this Source port info until the games actually went beta. Now it's just more crap for the rumor mills until HL2 finally gets released.
 
Erm, yes it has gone beta as in the next couple of weeks people are going to be playing it duh.
 
Without naming anybody, some of you assume that you are correct way too much. It's ok to expect something, but when some of you openly say X will end on Y date, you just sound foolish.
 
I'm not too worried about it... If CS:S Beta comes out in a few weeks, it will tide me over until HL2 (I hope). I don't know if I will believe any new ambiguous dates as of yet, but if you think about it... VALVe isn't going to announce another specific date (9/30/03) and miss it again. People would be so enraged with them that it's just not worth it to even get close to missing another date. So I guess all we can do is sit around for the CS:S Beta and see if we ever get a specific date. I definitely don't think that an August release is out of the question...

And at least we will be able to play Doom 3 in early August... lol.
 
I read somewhere last week that the CS:S beta starts in 2 weeks?

If that's true we can expect it to start being preloaded on steam any day now......
