... do you think it would be cool to be able to pin enemys to the wall with it, so their ragdoll just hangs there? Kinda like with the stake gun in Painkiller..
I think it would be awesome

I voted for cool, but still it wouldn't be cool in the game :p Just a thing that shoots sharp things would be the coolest ;)

I bet it will be in there but will rarely work, like not in Painkiller where the enemy flew like 5 feet back then got stuck in the wall.

You could do it in Resident Evil 2 to the crows. Was hard to get the timing right though.

well crossbow bolts couldn't really stick you against a wall since they are small. those oversized stakes in painkiller though i can understand. i would just hope for the crossbow bolts to inflict some visible damage to the models. maybe even stick in them. its all possible with the SDK anyway though

i agree with Wsh, it'd be better making a separate weapon like a spear gun. The spear gun from AvP2 wasnt really a speargun it was more of a dart gun, which i found was a bit of a let down.

So ive voted #4 in the poll because of that. Darts arent big enough to be classed as spears. So noway should they impale people (damn, person before me just said that).

The crossbow bolts are too small and aren't very powerful, they will just stick in the target and thats it.

Even the original No One Lives Forever did this, it was extremely fun! :D

Ah, my bad habbit of skimming over things has turned out bad again.. I am the only one who voted number 2 :p

There is nothing more fun than nailing someone between the eyes with the crossbow when they least expect it. Well maybe tauing thru a wall. :upstare:
I certainly hope to be able to bolt people to walls, especially my clan leader.

Why would anyone vote for "Yes - I doubt I'll like it though" or "No - But it would be cool?" Those two options make no sense.

If you're not going to like it...why would you vote for the crossbow pinning enemies to walls? Likewise, if you think it would be cool...why vote "no?" I'm terribly confused.

yes the poll in this thread is little wierd. but the crossbow would be cool. i never really used it in HL1 unless i ran out of all the other ammo and or to use it to take out the tenticals (dangling from the roof) but it was nice for sniping cause it worked well sometimes. but it would be cool it the new verson has like a secondary fuction where it would shoot three or four arrows. also the getting stuck on the wall would be amazing, especially with a head crab attached to it.. but since it has small arrows i doubt it.

it would be cool if the crossbow is a fusion of alien and man made technology tho..

cheers

The bolts are too short and won't be in the wall far enuff to hold up the enemy.

Maybe if it is a headcrab...

they are DARTS, not friggin long arse arrows, and it would only work on really wimpy wood or something soft.

would look cool, but the bolts would be too small, so i wont be suprised/upset when they dont stick.

Well people, the manipulator can shoot saw blades at walls, and they stick in the wall. The crossbow will more than likely do the same on surfaces such as wood.

We saw the crossbow icon but we've yet to see the actual weapon yet. Maybe the darts are larger and longer now?

When I think about it...the 'darts' in HL1 were pretty large as well. Those could have pinned an elephant down!

It would have physics limitations though. You're not going to have combine flying through the air and such.

I agree that pinning headcrabs to the wall would be the hot, but then you'd be wasting valuable cross-bolts on the wussy guys.

And acme420: How did you know that? Hopefully not from the stolen build.

i guess it be cool.. but don't think the "pinning" part is gonna happen :p

A beta version of HL1: Source was stolen at the same time and he's right

Mate, those bolt's aren't exactly small. They may not be as long as regular sized arrows, but the "bolt" thing is because they're massive.

With the physics simulation involved, you'd have to have either REALLY big crossbow bolts (ridiculous) or shoot them from the crossbow almost at the speed of sound (stupid) if you want to pin a Combine. Headcrabs, maybe. Either way, it seems like a waste of energy. It would have to be one efficient crossbow to transfer that much force in any case.

they are small compared to many types of ammo. and compared to things that can pin you against a wall, thats what i mean

I think it would be cool, but I think its unlikely that it will happen.

the arrows used in HL1 arent large enough...but hey, if someone would make a mod in wich the arrows are nice and big, it should be possible :)

It's about wether you think 'pinning enemys to the wall' will be in the game... The last I checked, thinking that "it probably wont be in the game, but would be cool" is a valid enough opinion... It's not 'do you want it to be in the game"

I think it would be kinda neat if it passed through them. . . but only if you had a side camera shot. . . er nm

yeah it should get stuck in them, but i can't imagine the bolts sticking to the walls with that weight

Would be nice if it was possible to pin stuff against walls or other things...

(Me imagines shooting a guy and have him pin himself AND the guy behind him to the wall  )

So long as enemies have the bolts sticking into them, I'm happy.
