Heheheh, hell yes!!

One other point. If you guys think that a crossbow bolt in real life doesnt have the capacity to pin guys against wooden or even slightly tougher walls you are wrong.

Arrows and Bolts are more than capable of this. :)

they should make it so it will only pins the enemy to things if there real close to a floor or walls, so u could aim at thier feet and pin thier foot to a wooden floor, but u should only be able to pin thier arms or feet.

He found it out from the latest E3 vid, on the caost section, you can see it in the inventory.

in nolf the arrows pinned guys to walls. shoot a guy in the head and theres a dead guy hanging from the wall by his head. so much fun.

what happened to my other post? deleted? i thought everyone saw the pictures from the hl1 on source back in november or october or whenever the hl2 leak was released.

Perhaps if you'd bothered to read the rules you'd know that we don't tolerate leak information on these forums.

The crossbow bolts are too small and aren't very powerful, they will just stick in the target and thats it.

Have you played HLDM? It's one shot one kill with the crossbow.

I realy hope it does pin people to walls I would have so much fun with it

I liked the way that Painkiller pulled it off, 'cept they let you pin them to the walls from too far away...like from 5 feet, it was weird. But if the crossbow is like the original in HL1, then i doubt it will pin them to the walls. the bolts are too damn small. I would like to see a large enough crossbow, though, it would be cool. I doubt it would be hard to mod.

I thought it would be cool to stick people to the wall with it but then I read some posts.....which made me remember that bolts != stakes!!!! Maybe Poison Tipped darts, incindiary (sp?) darts, exploding tip darts (Rambo!!!). Yes all of them. That way you could "Pick your poison" ;)

Oops. Didn't read the poll close enough.

I voted for the first but I think it will be the 3rd. Simply for the fact that in the original the darts wern't that big and were intended to tranquilize stuff. Not to impale them.

my friends shot through sheet metal with a longbow.
i'm sure a crossbow can do something similar.

Seems to me someone played HL on source, its already in.

Err what game were you on about there?

The darts in HL1 were big and definatly weren't used to tranqualize stuff...T-rex's maybe but not stuff.

crossbows are plenty powerful

I currently have a hunting bow which i never really get to use. However i once shot a box that i filled with wet insulation and other random stuff to get some weight and resistance inside.

the arrow shot almost clear through.

If it was an unarmored torso that i had shot at the arrow would have stuck halfway out the back.

The arrow was 3 feet long and was only using dull targeting points

Considering that crossbows are generally more powerful than normal bows, if the bolts had just a tad bit of length to them and the target was directly in front of a wall, i think pinning the target would be cool.

I've been hunting with a crossbow b4(really hard), if u hit deer in the butt with the bolts it'll knock em down. and they get jerked around if u get em in the stomach or chest.

Small enemies should get stuck to walls ;)

But yeah, sticking out is cool too.

The crossbow doesn't fire arrows it fires small tranquiliser darts.

Crossbows can be really powerful (Shooting right through garage doors, sheet metal, even into concrete), but nothing can beat a footbow...

[EDIT]: Meaning, "No other personal bow can beat a footbow for sheer power."

It definitely fires tranquilizer-tipped arrows. A scientist in the game says so.
It's probably an instant kill for humans because it's meant to be used on big Xen guys, like the Grunts and the Icthyosaur.
An excessive dose of tranquilizers might as well be poison.

Plus, if you knock out an enemy with large amounts of tranqs, what's the difference between dead and unconcious? All those guys we 'killed' in HL1 might have just been napping. :)

A crossbow bolt from that gun in HL 1 would probably be fatal if it injected you period. The darts had some special chemical intended to render aliens unconscience. The bolts didn't have the right doses for humans nor did it have the right formula/chemical for humans.

did anyone fire that thing into a corner of a wall so that you could see its point...that thing was designed with murder in mind not tranqs, it's evil looking!

I dunno if the game needs it but if there is going to be any sniper rifle it is cool that they use the crossbow...it's that little something special.

Yeah. But that could also mean that if had no biochemical effect on humans whatsoever.

Yes, It could.

However, did you ever shoot a grunt with the thing?

1 hit kill if I remember.

In No One Lives Forever 2 you got a cool crossbow that if you shot an enemy near a wall they'd get pinned. It was really cool 'cause they'd just dangle there, and you could go and get your bolt back, so when you did the body would flop to the ground.

I for one, think it'd kick ass to pin a combine to a wall by his shoulder with the crossbow. And I don't see why you shouldn't be able to get your bolts back too,
like in nolf2.

I Think it would rock if it pinned them.

I dont think it will happen though. Not because they cant code it, just because...

Who said that Humans died when you shot them with the crossbow in Half-Life 1. Couldn't they just be knocked out?

I dont think that they should have that in the main HL2 single-player, but modders could easily change that.

I wouldn't mind a toxin filled dart mode, where it makes your enemies stumble around like they're drunk.

The crossbow is in the weapons menu in the E3 2k4 video, you can see the yellow symbol when gordon switches weapons

Well, i'm certain enemies can get pinned ot the wall in some way, I think they were in teh video with the razor disks thrown with the manipulator. i'm sure there are other ways you can do it.

If they are tranquilizer tipped bolts, does that mean that the real bg nasty Alien's can wake up again after you put them to sleep? It'd be awesome if they started to get tired and eventually collapse after you hit them with a few bolts.

Kinda like Metal Gear Solid, hit them in foot, and after a while they fall asleep for a little bit.

hit them in the head and thier knocked out right away for a longer time.. or shoot periodically to keep them down.

And as I've said before, I think that was more to do with the penetrative effects of a pointy metal stick than anything else. The toxins probably helped with the Icthys, though... Or they would in reality...

I suppose they could have been just knocked out but for all intents and purposes they were dead.

And I take it you haven't shot one of the grunts with the gun, Brian Damage. You could shoot them in the foot and they would still slump over or do the dying animation.

Didn't seem that way when I played it. Maybe I had it set to hard, or something was wrong with my installation, but I always had to hit them in the head. I've been mostly playing through OP4 lately, so I haven't yet returned to the post crossbow part of HL...

To be honest, I think they'd just collapse/die as you say because the crossbow is coded to deplete enemy hit points by a massive amounts.

PEOPLE...Have you read this: http://www.1up.com/article2/0,2053,1590281,00.asp

Read a bit and you will come across this: "Some of the other weapons you can use in this area are a crossbow, a pistol (with a great sound effect), a grenade launcher, and a shotgun"

There is the proof :bounce:

Now...time to drink.

Ummmm.... How many people voted on this?!! LOL
