if u could make your own mod for hl2 wut would it be?

Three things I'd love to see (wish I had the talent to try making them myself):

Too many WWII mods...gettings really burnt out on those. But I'm yet to see a WWI mod....that might be interesting if done well.

Horror, horror, horror. A really good horror mod with an actual plot and character development. Not just a cheesy: go get key from so and so; cheap scare; return with key to open scary locked door; cheap scare; explore newly opened room; cheap scared and loud "scare chord." HATE games and movies like that.

And think it would be a cool to see some good ole fashion murder mystery type games. Kinda like Sierra's "Laura Bow" series, or even back to the text adventure games like "Deadline" from Infocom.

Those are the three which I would give a shot at if I could.

a good old clint

how about a western....the wild wild west..that`s what i wanna see in source engine...

not like "Wanted"...but a single player well made game that will rule...

something like Desperados only that's going to be in as first person shooter and with a whole new original story.. :smoking:

This was just posted in the Help Wanted and Offered forums... too bad it's multiplayer. :hmph:

I'd make a mod of the Wheel of Time book series. I'd have it be a team based game, 2 teams (light and dark) and the classes would be different for each team. The weapons would all be physically simulated to make for some interesting melee battles

for the Forces of the Light

Blademaster - wields a katana like sword, also carries a shortbow or crossbow, wears leather or chainmail armor

Archer - wields a two rivers longbow, can penetrate plate armor, and a short sword, wears leather or chainmail armor

Pikeman - wields a pike or other polearm and another one handed weapon of the user's choice, can wear chainmail or platemail armor

Aes Sedai - a female mage, strong in Water and Air magic and weaker at earth and fire, wears no armor

Asha'Man - a male mage, strong in fire and earth magic, weaker at water and air, wears no armor

Aielman - skilled at stealthing, wields short spears and a shortbow, wears no armor

Custom like in firearms, the player can choose which weapons and armor he/she wants. More weapons and heavier armor = slower movement

Weapons Custom players can choose from
Heron Mark Sword - a katana like sword
Broadsword
Longsword
War Axe
Spear
Two Rivers Longbow
Shortbow
Mace
War Hammer
Short Spear
a variety of shields

classes for the Forces of the Dark One

Trolloc - Trollocs are hybrids of men and animals. They're 7-8 feet tall and are twice as wide as an average man. Trollocs wield Scimitars or Axes and wear chainmail armor.

Myrdraal - Also called Fades or Halfmen. They look like humans but have pasty white skin, black hair, and have no eyes. They can fade into shadows and wield long black swords that are poisoned. Wears no armor

Soulless - humans that have given their souls to the darkness. Look so ordinary you don't even notice them. They wield daggers, crossbows, and are best for stealthing and silent takedowns

Draghkar - large vampire like creatures. Can fly and it's bite takes the life of the victim.

Dreadlords - Aes Sedai and Asha'man who have joined the Dark One's forces. Have same powers as Aes sedai and Asha'Man

Darkfriends - Humans who have joined the darkness. can wield any selection of weapons and armor, just like the Light's custom class.

Channelling (Magic)

Channeling the True Source (We'll just call it magic) is only available to the Aes Sedai, Asha'man, and Dreadlords.
All magic "spells" come from the 5 basic elements of fire, water, air, earth, and spirit. Some powers that would be in the mod

Fireball
Lightning bolt
Lightning Storm (area affect)
Balefire (destroys anything but needs long time to charge and uses up all of the player's mana)
Creating swords out of Fire, Air, or Water
Earthquake
Wall of Flame
Levitate
Heal
etc.

Different maps would be -
Tarwin's Gap - takes place in a mountain pass. Open wide space where light and dark battle freely, would basically be a team deathmatch level

Falme - a seaside town on the Toman Head peninsula, forces of the dark one would be at the town and the light team would have to try and recover the Horn of Valere that's inside the town

Shadar Logoth - An anchient, ruined city next to a river. The Light would start at the gates of the city and try to escape across the river to win, the Dark team would try to hold them back

The Stone of Tear - A huge fortress in the city of Tear. Inside the 2 teams try to get to callandor, a sword made of crystal that boosts magic ability

Fal Dara - a borderlands fort. The dark team attacks the fort and try to free a prisoner. the light defends the fort

Shayol Ghul - takes place on a volcano, inside is the pit of doom. Forces of Light battle the Forces of the Darkness, what can be better?

That's all I can think of, at the moment, I think it sounds like a good mod.

The reason why noone makes a WW1-based game, or mod for that matter, is because it's boring... It's trench wars... And everything you'll do will be script driven anyways.

So what did you have in mind for the "Horror game" then? If none of those apply?

That's a good game idea... With physics and all you could like hide secret levers and stuff under flowerpots and stuff... Awesome!

I thought they had easily crashed planes in WW1

Umm... What? It wasn't exactly Air-to-ground warfare... It was Air to Air, and Ground to Ground... And some Ground to Air.

Air to Ground wasn't exactly effective (One guy sitting in the back seat with bombs in his knee... Throwing them out to ... HOPEFULLY... hit SOMETHING...).

Anyway, it was trench warfare, as I said. (Okay men, bayonetts on, prepare to charge... CHARGE! - People get killed, hopefully you make it to their trench, try to kill some over there... Start over...) It's just... Dull and boring.

Yeah lol, didn't they use little darts that the pilots would drop onto soldiers on the ground?

Well I don't know much about ww1 aircraft warfare but... no. they didn't.

Yup, called "Flechettes". Dropped from a sufficient height, they could punch straight through a soldier's protective helmet. They looked rather like large lawn darts.

There were also small bombs, about twice as large as grenades, which could be dropped over the side of the plane in the same manner.

Really? Cool.

Pilots also occasionally took potshots with their sidearms at ground troops and other pilots, mostly before mounted machineguns were developed.

I didn't know about the darts. That's some new information. (I'm more well-read on WW2... A LOT more well-read). The bombs were stacked in the guy's knee so I'm guessing the darts were too.

Bottom line is that both of these weren't exactly efficient ways to make war. They'd also be boring to play... WW1 sucks for games.

EDIT: MORE MOD IDEAS AND STOP DISCUSSING WW1 ALREADY :cheese:

I think that's kinda what I'm seeing with all the WWII stuff. I'm burned out on all war mods anyway, but WWII mods are also getting to be the same ole thing these days...generally the same weapons...same types of battles in the same environments. It's been done to death and perhaps someone could put a spin on a different type battle scenario. I wouldn't even mind seeing a Civil War type mod (or earlier time periods too for that matter)...just something other than WWII. May suck horribly, which I admit, but at least it's trying to go in a new direction.

As for horror...Well, I'm a huge horror fan and grew up in the 70's and 80's and I have to say one of my biggest pet peeves in horror movies are all the cliches. Dumb character's doing things a normal person wouldn't (like walking into a dark room when you KNOW there's a killer in the house). Having a super killer who has slaughtered half the town only to have someone smack them once with a pool cue, and then they leave rather than making sure he/she's actually dead. In other words: make the characters have actual brains.

And one of the biggest pet peeves I have is the scare chord and bad sound and music placement.

I do not get scared by a loud burst of music blaring when you think something scary is supposed to happen. Sure it makes you jump, but not because it's scary, you jump only because it's loud. And after that fake scare, how long is it before the true scare comes? Couple seconds usually..it's dull and not scary and incredibly predictable. To me, it's a cheat...it's like saying, "This isn't really scary so we will make you jump with loud noise to make you think what you saw was scary."

The greatest scares are the ones you don't see coming. Silence is a very under used tool in horror movies, sadly. So sound would be huge in any horror mod I would want to make.

As for an actual tale, I have nothing in particular in my head, but one thing you rarely see is a good ghost story. Now obviously there would have to be some for of hunt and gather in order for the game to progress forward, but I wouldn't want the ENTIRE game to revolve around hunt and gather goals. get key A open door B etc.

Make the game more open ended; don't give a clue/object where the character MUST go and do certain things in an exact order to continue to the next part of the game...let it be open and let them discover things on their own and let them be surprised at what they find. And the plot wouldn't be in your face from second one...it would reveal itself slowly like a well written book.

And plus, a big thing for me in any mod would have to be the ability to care about the people you are creating. A man's beautiful wife and daughter have been killed in a horrific drunk driving car accident, he's torn up and struggling with his own reasons for caring anymore. He has no reason to live, they were his everything. That's always important to me in anything I write ...emotions. Emotions are what fuel all of us.

(wow long winded...sorry)

About a murder mystery....one thing I loved about "Deadline" (and I'm sure other games did it also, but in a murder mystery is seems to work much better) is as time passed, characters did their things normally whether you saw them or not. I mean things aren't made in a way that you HAVE to do something for the game to continue. Like man A) kills woman B) and in order for you to continue the game you HAVE to enter this room and see the man kill her. I think it's far more interesting to have things always going on behind the scenes...like in real life....the clock always runs and your actions dictate how you solve the case. If you miss the man killing the woman because you're questioning the butler at the exact same time, than perhaps you will find clues in that room once you finally do enter it. Maybe you enter the room just after the murder and the suspect didn't get a chance to remove the body (but he himself did get away in time). Maybe you forget to check that room until much later and by them the killer has had time to clear up the room and dispose of the body (where you might find it later). Perhaps, if the timing is right, you notice the man is acting a bit odd compared to the first time you met him earlier in the game, you also might notice he has changed his clothes ...why would he do that in the middle of the day? Could be cool if done right ;)

All this behind the scenes and you'll never know until you find the clues and question people. , Etc...

Think things I would want to do would be a bit of a pain in the ass to make, but I think that's where my enjoyment would come from in playing them.

My stupid & mad ideas:

1. Strider kart or halflife kart, riding monsters in a race :D
2. Ride the wild antlion guard (as a wild horse)
3. Rollermines tennis
4. The fighting Crowbar club
5. Headcrab sports (do you know yeti sports?)
6. Destruction derby
7. Insta-manipulator fest

An Action ADventure story based on Matthew REilly's ICE STATION NOVEL. Its got everything from fierce firefights, hand to hand, vehicles chases, conspiracy, intriuge and a cool story. Iguess the best bit of source engine would be the cutscenes. They wouls be awesome. OH and one of the best bits in the story which would make an excellent level in a mod would be a Hovercraft chase in antarctica with enemy soldiers attacking you!!!

My mod would be pure shit ruining to everything that will stand in your way. Your only weapons are your extreme ability to kick everyones ass with your awesome ass kicking abilities. Think of the possibility of punching some douche bag in the face, then tossing them down the stairs.

Your enemies: Animals, Children, Elderly, political and/or important people during the history of time, the population of the Planet Earth, vehicles, and plants.

I'd like to do a rurouni kenshin mod with like 300 types of swords and sword styles, and martial arts. That would definately look sweet with the ragdoll physics. Imagine it, you get into a huge swordfight with like 17 people, then you finish someone off and roundhouse-kick him in the face and the force of the kick send him flying across the floor with blood everywhere...

I am starting ideas to make a mod,but I know that I will never will make it but anyway I will do it
I hav few ideas
the one that I am most interesed is one about the humans fighting against a superpowerfull and mithical races that is using the humans to wins theyr owns war and humans are like a resource that will over soon
and you are a human that must fight for survive

Someone should really make a mod (addon) where the only weapons are manipulator guns. Something like AdminOP for tfc, but for HL2.

I'd like to make a mod called 'SourceWorld'..

It would be one of the two epic stories that I have created, one would be a 3 part story FPS taking place around 50, 100 and 150 years in the future. The other is an RPG taking place over more than 7000 years in the future but is actually a medieval fantasy world (its a long story).

In these mods gameplay is equal to story in priority, it would be the story and the atmosphere it creates that makes them fun, not neccessarily unique gameplay.

I would explain more about my stories but I am somewhat paranoid about even the slightest potential of someone using them simply because I havn't ever heard stories like them being created before (although naturaly stories like them have probably been created but its just very few people know them).

I'd like a mod like the kungfu mod for max payne. But in First-Person & you get to SEE you entire body :) Arms & hands (and any object you'd like as a weapon) are controlled with Mouse1. Legs are controlled with Mouse2 obviously. Different button combinations (1 tap there, 2 there = uppercut + 2 crotch kicks?) give you different results. The USE button makes you go into "Jackie Chan Mode". What I mean is that if you close to some object that can be used as a weapon (or whatever), press the E button (USE), you will do some cool Jackie Chan trick, like diving through a foldable ladder & then use it as a weapon for a short period of time :D Sounds Cool? I grant whoever wants the "rights" to do this mod 'cause I sure don't know how to do this ;)

Edit: Some cool physics would be nice with this too.

2ndEdit: It might be necessary to add some Neo-like skills so dodge bullets 'cause simple kung fu can still be owned by a sniper ;)

That'd be cool, but you'd have to get someone who actually knows martial arts to do the animations so you don't have BS moves

Yeah that's true. It would cool if legs & arms could "tear" like Chun Li's legs in Street Fighter if you were fast enough. Or the bluring/ripping effect Japanese Animators put in the fight scenes.

Wow some of these ideas..would take alot of work. Anyways Id do a mod that is rarely done, a comedy based mod. The story would be of a combine soldier who just isnt up to snuff. He tries proving himself to his fellow soldiers by going to fight the resistence by himself, getting him into plenty of trouble. You would run into gordon a few times and get into some pretty funny situations. The sense of comedy I would want is something close to Sealab 2021, family guy or Redvsblue. Id love to do a mod like this, but alas I have very little knowledge in modding (little experience in mapping but thats it).

I'd do a mod where you worked at Black Mesa (this is pretending that the experiment with Gordon Freeman didn't cause a resonance cascade). It could be like you get a letter from the Administrator and he asks you what you want to be (i.e. scientist, security guard, construction worker, um, cafeteria person/chef) and he gives you clearance depending a number of random things that are random-ish. Then you work until you get the highest level clearance, kick the Administrator out, and take his place. So then you could travel through every single inch of BMRF. Or you could just select something like "Auto-Administrator" so you could already be the Administrator when you start. I was planning to create the entire base using all of the game sections and some sections of some mods that could've happened or just looked cool.

Ignore me. I'm a n00b.

I might make some sort of matrix mod...I wa sthinking of how you would do bullet dodgeing: Since the skeletal (ragdoll) effects in hl2 are pretty nice, it be cool if you could liek click and drag certain skeletal points on your character from 3rd person view to move him/here in a way to dodge bullets. Is that possible?

I think so, but would you really be thinking about grabbing your arm and dragging it out of the way when your in a intense fire fight? No that draws away from the action, it would be useless cause no one would do it. Its easier to try to jump, duck or just plain get the f*ck out of the way of your enemies fire than drag your body in a certain position.

What might be a cool alternative though would be to make animations that are similar to those found in matrix, and bind them to keys. So if the player ever needs to swing his upper body back to avoid a huge item being thrown towards him (think manipulator gun in a matrix setting!) he can hit the button and hold it as long as he needs (maybe a set time, like only for 5 to 10 sec.) to avoid the item.

I've been meaning to make this mod for a while. The setup is this: Two teams, the Terrorists (referred to as "T's") and the Counter-Terrorists (known as "Ct's") battle in a range of environments such as: mazes, offices, ruins, arabian towns, and maybe a trainyard. They will each have a set of weapons comprised of Carbines, Ak-47's and Desert Eagles. The Terrorists's objective is to "bomb" a marked "bomb-zone" with "c-4". The CT's must prevent this at all costs. I have also been tinkering around with a Hostage type mode (maybe cash rewards for rescuing hostages?). I'd like to call this mod "Counter-Terrorism". Sounds good, yes?

You sir, are a genius.

Six Three,

Its sad that people are actually doing that with hl2, Ive already seen alot of mods doing the exact samething as cs is doing. Everyone bitches about the lack of originality in the gaming industry, but what happens when you give us the tools to make our own? You get 50 cs rip-offs and 20 more dod ones on the way! :dozey:

First it was CS clones, then it was WWII out the yin-yan, and now it's FPS turned RTS... What's next you ask? Swamp Wars.
