Create a fresh, new game engine? new / wierd plot, newly crafted styles of action...?
What would you do?

It'd be a UE3-based tactical shooter, heavily story-driven and with RTS elements. Oh, and a really kick-arse mulitplayer mode.

...

Mine: Squad-Based massive online FPS, 2 sides, each squad has 20 ppl enlisted but only 9 ppl online at a time. each time you die your account is changed to the enemy's side, thus balancing the odds.

Mine:

Multiplayer; Really Massive Online play. 100 vs 100 max, each time you die, you are revived after 20 seconds at your team's spawn site. round ends when a team reaches a total of (insert # here) kills. No Auto-team balance like CS. Instead, teh kills limit is adjusted.

Singleplayer: Advanced Game AI, Imperial/Directorate forces against rebels/aliens. Imperial/Directorate victory.

It would be a story driven, innovative and intruiging sci fi shooter where the worlds enviroment would affect your play, stamina and stats regarding the temperature. I've always that would be fun :p

Starcraft as an FPS game...ala Aliens versus Predator 1 / 2.

With a massively multiplayer component, that would allow space transition...

Large scale battles would be fought, with an endless amount of players.

Weapon customization system...for vehicles as well...

Evolution system for the Zerg...

Warp gate system for the Protoss, oh and the Zerg and Protoss would have a combo system for their melee attacks...

I'll think of more stuff...

I'd remake the movie "Zulu" as an FPS. It'd be awesome, and pretty damned scary for the player. All the Welsh Infantry would be individuals, and the idea is that you'd know which one had just died from their voice.

One where you play as a scientist going to a normal day's work, when all goes wrong and you pick up guns like you've done it since you were 3 years old, and kill hundreds of aliens. Then the government sends in troops and you singlehandedly take them all down.

Right forum?

You'll have to, I'm afraid :)
If you were going to make a game when would you envisige it being released? :p

Oh, and i wouldn't make a FPS, too much competition.

Um, 2006.

......................

what, you'll get it made and release it in less than a year?

One with low end graphical quality to appeal to lower end machines.

One with RTS elements.

One with heavily driven storylines.

One with an extensivley large range of weapons.

Intense gore.

Intense violence.

Intense language.

I didn't say January 1 2006, did I?

You're also assuming that work hasn't already started on it.

oh....

so you have about 3/2 years left to finish...

are you really going to make it?

It's in development now...

I've always envisioned doing a Half-Life style FPS set in the Homeworld universe... One set in the immedate aftermath to the first game, another about boarding and taking over ships... Would be interesting to hybrid in some space combat as well, and I imagine there would be a large tactical element to the game.

Ooh.. that's a nice title.

Anyway, I'm quoting an older post by me on Gaming forums since it's an interesting idea:
I think I'll try and come up with my vision of a perfect game..

It should be an FPS set in a post-apocalyptic dark future, centuries of warfare has turned Earth into a big derelict dirtball with almost all natural recources depleted. Four major factions are what's left of all nations, the rest of Earth's population are small communities of individuals doomed to death. The four different factions have one goal in common; gain control over the last operational city to build space shuttles and escape earth. In space, the winning faction will settle on Mars which is fully terraformed by machines set there centuries ago.

The player will be a person of one of those lesser communities who decides to join one of these factions and basically embark on the journey to this city, probably located in the US or something. You'll start somewhere in eastern europe or Asia, and you'll always be together with a squad who will be closely emotionally attached. The further you advance in the game and through some nations, the more twisted experiences you will encounter and it'll be more horrific and harder.
Sort of a Band of Brothers meets Apocalypse now meets Tiberian Sun.

The different factions will have different types of vehicles and stuff, and they'll also go through different nations to reach this city, though at many points there'll be encounters and battles in ruined cities and such. It'll be pretty linear in the main story, you will eventually reach the city and battle for the control of it, and in space one of the other factions will hunt after you and there'll be a sort of Battle of Proxycon-style battle. You'll however be able to choose some of the directions when you advance and see your progress on a map.

So are you using the UE3 engine or what? Have you decided on an engine? And what engine is that?

And does the game have ninja's or any kind of referance to ninja's? It wont be complete without it.

Anyway as for my game, I'd do something along the lines of GTA mixed with Freedom Fighters. Except in a city similar to that of whats in the Fifth Element. Think about it, awesome third-person tactics, GTA style gameplay, flying cars in massive futuristic cities. You can beat it.

Unless it had NINJA's in it of course.

I don't believe that there's currently any plans for ninjas...

*sounds of frantic rewriting*

Yes, we have ninjas!

like a mars attcks style game, with awesome gfx, set all round the world.

or a first person football game where 1 person could join the server and be the keeper :D

The game will be divided up into seperate missions, each with 3 difficulty levels (just like Golden EyE/Perfect Dark). Beating it on easy will allow you to progress to the next level. Beating it on normal will allow you to use weapons/items you've gained from the shooting range/challenges/other stages on that level. Beating it on hard will allow you to mess with weapon/player skins, weather, time of day etc etc.

Imagine you're playing a mission that involves fighting in a dirty down town bar somewhere. Out of curiosity you decide to check under the counter - and discover a meaty shotgun. Now, next time you select a level to play, and assuming you've completed it on normal, you will have the option to use the shotgun. This alone could make the experience completely different. Now the shotgun will be unlocked for the shooting range - which, once you get a decent score, may enable the unlocking of other weapons/items/skins ..... which you can then use in other levels/shooting range.

Now imagine there's 100's of guns, each offering a vary different experience in levels that you can customise. 'I'm going to do this mission at night - with nothing but throwing knives , or 'I want to do it in the morning, when it's snowing, dressd as James Bond, with duel 'face off' golden pistols' :)

Add loads developer made challenges (similar to Perfect Dark) - 'complete this mission in 3 mins using just a sniper rifle'. Let these unlock extras, and other challenges.

The game will encourage you to get better at it, to practise (something very lackinging single player fps these days) To just see the next level all you have to do is finish the one you're playing on easy - but to play it with your favourite guns requires you have finished it on normal, using the default load out. To play at dusk, using the uber Ninja skin you just unlocked by spending hours practising with shuriken at the shooting range, will require you have finished that level on hard (which will actually be 'hard')

And - as with all games - the more you play it, become its master, the more you'll love it.

No matter how great HL2 was - I haven't had the desire to come back to it for months and months. It's been done, finished. Nothing esle to see and no more challenge. Perfect Dark lasted me years - and all because it allowed the user to experiement, was difficult, and offered challenge after challenge to overcome.

So basically, I want GE/PD on the pc - but more so :)

//edit (it'd also be nice if the no.s and types of enemy could vary more.. Instead of always having 5 guys with mp5's in that room, maybe have an uber guy with a chain gun - or just 2 of them, or maybe 10. Mix up their patrol routes. Maybe have a challenge that will allow you to choose which enemy type you'll fight on a given level - choose their weapons/armour/items etc

Try and make each time you play a level a new experience)

Yes, we have ninjas!

you've already licensed the U3 engine?

Starcraft! Before I went to sleep last night, I was thinking about how to balance everything for about an hour.

Dammit, now I want to write out the design document for a Zulu mod. It'd be so awesome!

i've got the story in mind, though I'd rather not toss it all over the internet, but everything in it would have to be completely interactive and non-linear, so non-linear you could decide not to do anything like play basketball and take showers or whatever instead of capping fools, though you'd probably get killed if you did, and it'd need a HUGE, very detailed, and graphically impressive gameworld, oh, and it'd need a third-person option for some Max Payne-like moments

I'm going to be sneaky and release one of our old techdemo videos (Source-based) later.

Century of War

An FPS I'd like to see

Century of War working title
This next-gen FPS will lead you through all the major conflicts in the 20th century. Possible levels

- The fields of Verdun; be a part of the of one of the most deadly battles in history.
- Gallipoli; a massive naval landing WWI-style.
- The Spanish Civil War; join your comrades in the battle against the fascists
- Blitzkrieg; be a part of Hitler's war machine at the hight of its might
- Jungle Warfare; fight the Brittish battle in Birma against the Japanese
- Korea; general MacArthur leads you into the fray while the first jet bombers scream overhead
- Vietnam; fight a guerilla war from the Vietcong perspective
- The first Gulf war; the struggle of the Iranian revolutionary forces against Saddam
- The second Gulf War; join the SAS in a mission to find SCUD's.

Authentic weapons, historic scenario's, and awesome graphics. I'd buy it.

First some prerequisites: In a perfect world, there would be no door-to-door seller come game producer or silly marketing clown enforcing his/her demented will upon me, so I assume that I have total and absolute control over the design and production of my very own intellectual property.

*snip*

This basically sums up everything I would do. Polishing until it's as polished as possible.

A war game with 2 realy different sides, 1 having elite infantry and hi-tech weaponry the other with mass-produced soldiers with subpar guns. One would get a medic to a guy once he went down and the other would loot the body. and you could be both sides! that's right, not just you against the evil empire, choose a side.
It would have a limited invitory but eay to work with a duel wielding and quick grenade throwing much like Halo 2. Lots of drivable vehicles and varitey of guns. You start off as a lowly soldier and work your way up ranks, you can be a spy, comando driver etc and you increase skill with guns by using the like GTA San An.
There would be loads of multiplayer modces, all of the UT2K4 ones, and a base siege type one. In seige (the highlight of the multiplayer) you would each have a base or just one team, the defences, guns, vehicles and base style you get would depend what team you got and there would be all the ranks from the SP mode (much like Return to Castle Wolfentine MP).

Edit: and location damage

we need a lip-licking smiley

A first person LOTR epic mediaval/fantasy esque game, you can choose who you play as (although most of the game you'll be a soldier), RTS style general, Strategy style game King, or a FPS soldier fighting in huge battles racking up killing the orcs/elves.. whatever whilst trying to survive the mayhem.

heavily story driven like Baldurs gate, with you as a soldier freelancing until you're conscripted so you've always got quests to do. Not ya typical fps :p

Im just tihnking of a great hero fantasy novel as a game :p
