IGN post reader's top 100 games of all time. IGN readers presumed stupid.

A cute kitten just died in an adorable baby's arms.

I'm still looking for a game better than Zelda: OOT. I don't think I have a baseless nostalgic urge to hold onto the games of the past (like some Pacman, FF, and Doom people I know). It's just that it simply is the best game around. Even todays games with the superior graphics and voice acting can't duplicate the atmosphere of that game (OK, that does sound a little nostalgic doesn't it). Too bad they screwed up Majora's Mask so badly :(.

(I had to literally force myself (over the course of 5 years) to repeatedly sit down and try to finish Final Fantasy 7 (I'm close to the last boss I think after 5 years of this painful intermittent playing). This is just a SUCK IT to the FF people ;) ).

How so?

Also, for those who find FF7 to be the best game ever... take away its story and what do you get? The only thing that kept me going in that game was the story and its occasional mini games...nothing else D:

I too don't see the appeal of Goldeneye. As for why Goldeneye is so frequently high up the list: many more people have played it, and many console-only FPS gamers simply don't know better. Hence: Halo.

Absolutely.

Here's a book. Take away the story... and what do we have?

(Haha, I know it's not the right sort of thing to compare it to. But didn't you like killing bosses left right and centre?)

Bosses that were integral to the plotline like Sephiroth were great in the emotional sense I must admit :)

gggrrr. I read this often on pc sites - it's probably the thing that bugs me most on gaming forums. Without trying to cause offense, it's complete shit.

When Golden Eye came out it completely destroyed every fps around in every way. Quake 2 came out the same year and felt woeful in comparison - a simpleton with training wheels. Even the mighty Half Life released a year later was worse in so many areas. It may have 'raised the bar' in immersion, set pieces, and atmosphere (which is why HL will always be in my personal top 10), but it couldn't hope to touch Golden Eye in combat, challenge, lastability - and neither have the vast majority of fps releaed since.

//edit

That pile of ringed planet crap shalt not be compared to Goldeneye D:

I'd also give it an edge over Quake 2, though in multiplayer terms Q2 has a lot on its side given that it was really pushing through netplay (round the TV multiplay is deceptively good only because it is round the tv multiplay. I can watch the shittiest movie in the world and it becomes 4 times as good when there are 4 other people there to enjoy its base crapness with me). As for Goldeneye being better than Half-Life: Haha. Hahahaha. Ha.

bah. GE provided me with a few years of fun in single player alone. Multiplayer is certainly more fun with mates in the same room, but the quality is still there - why else did so many people choose to play it over other mutliplayer console games? (at my university it was pretty much the only game people played in Halls, despite having a massive building wide network set up for Quake 2 and GTA etc)

I never said it was better than HL either. Better in some areas, certainly. Say what you like about HL, but it is a short game, and all the sweeter for it (a little like Ico). I played it for 2 weeks over Christmas and loved every second. It didn't take long to see everything it had to offer, though, and then it was back to GE which, even after a year, still had a load of play time left in it.

WTF??? Paper Mario and Shenmui beat Half-life???

And how the fu*k did that - thing - become numero uno?

EDIT: Why is almost every craptastic Zelda game there? And why does the cover art of half those games look like cheap manga??

The Zelda series is fantastic. You're in the extreme minority, good sir.

Ocarina of Time was deserving of a top 100 place. But the other Zeldas on the list were just good games, nothing exceptional.

Super Mario Bros was an addiction. Half-life revolutionised the FPS and Halo made the Xbox a success. Other than being a very good game, what did Ocarina of Time do to merit it's place?

OoT defined the 3d adventure genre as much as Mario 64 did 3d platformers.

I don't think Paper Mario or Shenmue deserved to be higher than HL either.

I spose I am also in the extreme minority. Zelda games just never.. turned me on. I think it was the outfit. But I think the splinter cell games were well placed. Pandora Tomarrow was the most insane game I had ever played. One of my favorites... Perfect Dark was great, Although I was too young to get ANYTHING out of it. I remember I bought it used. And it already had 100% Completion. Trust me, It was 1337.
