I know there are already a few threads on the hl2 steam prices, but I have a very specific objection.

I already own the entire back catalogue of valve products, and I want dod:s.

2. "Silver" -- $59.95
-- Half-Life 2*
-- Counter-Strike: Source
-- Half-Life 1: Source*
-- Day of Defeat: Source*
-- Valve's back catalog currently available on Steam *(To be made available upon products' release.)

All I want out of there is hl2 and dod:s. thats it. I dont want to pay for every existing valve game again, because I ALREADY PAYED FOR THEM. I even payed for the first halflife TWICE, why would I be willing to pay for it a third time.

Does anyone else feel a tingling sensation in their assholes when they look at this? I'm going to be forced to pay for 5 games I dont want just to get my hands on dod:s, that is just not cool.

Considering you're getting DOD:S and HL:S for $10 extra along with the back catalog (which you don't need), I'd say it's a pretty good deal!

If you have the original halflife, you can pretty much get the entire back catalog for free.

It's a weird deal.

There will be a way to buy the games individually.

Your only paying for HL2/HL:S/CS:S and DOD:S the back catalouge is a bonus to people buying them together. You can take the Vivendi road and pay 80 dollars just for cs:s and hl2 if you'd like though. I knew the minute the prices cam eout whiners would post redundant tired crap like this. Pay the money.. they're are people in this world with greater financial conflicts then omg leik vlve r rip m3 off. Silver > CE

silver = more content then CE... stop whining, you were worse off before :upstare:

no, no its not. unless dod:s is an entire new game unlike cs:s its a total rip. I'm paying a extra 10 bucks for games I already own and a damn mod.

Hopefully there will be an option to buy is seperatelly. I am not going to pay extra for a game i havent seen any media on yet or not even have a clue when it will be out.

You don't have to buy it.

It's only 10 dollars more, and you get two games with it. I don't see what the problem is.

as it's been said before valve so "cleverly" forgot to mention the individual prices for DoD:s and HL:s :hmpf:

my advice would be to wait till they release info on how to get DoD:s by itself...

Tell you what -- buy the Silver package on another account, then sell your current one to a friend for $10. Win-Win!

well if you'd like they're is a thing called bronze which is just the damn game (psst: new stuff). Buy it. I hate to be an ass but posting this on a forum full of rabid Valve fanboys is asking for flames, complain to your clan, mom, or gamespy :afro:

exactly. I loved the origonal, and I want to play the new one, but I dont even know a thing about it. And if it is just like cs:s then there is no reason it should cost me 10 extra bucks. I'm just worried they are going to try to charge 50 bucks for it when it comes out by tacking on some fake single player thing like cz.

I'm also worried that nobody is going to play it because the only way to get it is by buying a more expensive version online or the CE.

I can guarantee you that it's not gonna be less than the $10 you pay extra now.

I'm feeling very boned here

Was it just as good for you as it was for Valve? Now shut up, Valve wants to cuddle.

Riiight... So, despite the fact that for an extra $10 you're getting HL:Source, Day of Defeat:Source and Condition Zero if you haven't already got it, you still want it cheaper? :|

It is kind of silly that the most popular action game of all time (correct me if im wrong) is FREE! You just need a copy of half life, which everyone has

Hello, this is one of my rare postings....i don't know where you live but the prices steam offer are very competitive compare with other high end games.

The standard price where i live for a new game is usually £34.99, and thats just one game....now HL2 is $59.95 which is £33.99.

This is cheaper than other games AND you get 3 extra complete game included...that makes this a good deal.
They just include the back catalogue cause noone is gonna really buy them anymore with the new ports out.

I own the entire back catalog. everything. I'm going to be paying 10 bucks for games I already have, a retextured version of a game I payed for 6 years ago, and a MOD. thats what dod is, and unless they have a plan to make it something more, its a rip.

And why do I need hl with updated gfx? I already have blue shift, which does the exact same thing.

I should make clear that I live in tucson arizona. not canada or europe. games cost $50.00 american here.

i agree.

most people already have the "back catalog", half-life through-out to all the mods available, CS, DOD, they were free, that was the point of them being mods; that they were freely developed.

now half-life 2 comes, and we're being sold a package that contains "half-life 2 and cs:s" (bronze). its given as if we're getting 2 things for the price of 1 game. but hl2 doesn't have its own multiplayer. most modern games (especially shoot-em ups etc) have their own mp. cs:s was a mod developed for free and given for free. now we're paying for it and not getting a complete (multiplayer less) hl2.

the rest of the steam packages are a joke. back catalog? of what exactly, games we've already paid for. why would you want to pay extra for games that you've, firstly, already paid for, and secondly - dod? cs? tfc? why do we want them we're buying HL2 to play hl2 and the new mods that come out on that, not 2-5 year old mods.

i know theirs a debate on bandwidth, manuals, box etc etc. and im sure i'll get moaned at for my points. but its just my opinion, so easy up :p

i had considered getting a steam package to play cs:s early. but im now 100% set on waiting for the retail version of which im sure will be a much better investment.

love the title, you are boned, 5-15, mister, if you're lucky, or maybe even a number 1....... waits for the blank stares
edit: or a GC number 1, or an A-1

that's exactly one of the dilemmas(sp?) most people will assume that it will be more expensive buying these game seperately... so a lot out of fear of getting screwed over will buy the packages, but really they don't know what exactly they get, they just have to put their faith in valve and that they will actually like what they get...

How much did they charge for just cs back when they released that all by itself?

I don't get it, why are you whining about something you're not interested in? You don't want DoD:S, you don't want HL:S, you don't want the back catalogue.

Hey, I figured out a solution: don't buy it!

In response to all the people who said "dont buy it".

I WANT HL2 AND DOD:S. AND I WILL PAY FOR THEM.

GOT IT?

jesus, I'm just mad that I have to pay for all that extra crap.

dunno...sure hope it was cheaper than a regular retail game...

Short and sweet, chris. Isn't it amazing the misplaced values some people have. Added to the fact that some of them just refuse to read things properly...

Lazy sods

as I said buy bronze(or normal retail) and wait for them to release info on the individual cost for DoD:s

misplaced values? I dont want to pay for GAMES I ALREADY HAVE! I bought cz months ago, and I bought halflife and all its expansions years ago. why would I buy them again?

I think I will buy bronse, just because it seems like the best deal, I just hope they dont try to charge me 50 bucks for a retextured mod when they finish with dod:s.

That leads me to a interesting idea... I wonder if you will be able to upgrade versions later on if you want to? like if I buy bronse now could I upgrade to silver when they release dod:s? I'll have to email them about that.

Do you honestly think you'll be cheaper than $10 extra now? If it's ever released individually, it'll cost at least 10 or more.

How can you not get this? I already own those games. they are mine. I have them. I put money in the hands of a cashier, and took those games home with me.

Homer... think of this this way... when HL2 comes out... it will most likely be $50-$60.... that means HL2 and CS:S... When DOD:S comes out it will most likely be $20-$30.... so if you bought HL2 and DOD:S retail... you get a range of $70-$90.. now the SILVER package costs $60... which is STILL $10 less than buying the two games you want individually retail.... buy silver package... pay your $60 and save $10 for the gas tank :D I personally am very happy with the prices and expected gold to be much more... (and Im a poor college kid)

I understand that, and you can play those games for ever now you've paid for them.

But these are NEW games now or at least greatly updated, so put your goddam hand in your pocket.

Lots of very intelligent people have spent lots of hours making these games.

Lets not go to war about it, please.

Ah, but now they have PHYSICS!!! AND PRETTY WATER!!!

Honestly, the only thing I severely dislike is Valve making DOD:S steam exclusive. A shite way to get more money and screw over retail people if you ask me.

what if you turn down the gfx detail on hl:source and it became half-life

Letter for letter, I am simple.

Um I didn't think that css was a ripoff. It is exactly what I wanted. The same gamplay and in nice graphics. Go play 1.6 dust then play css dust on high everything. So beautiful.
