This is what's left of my car after I had to swerve away to avoid a head on collision with another car driving on our side of the road.

We went into a ditch, hit a tree which then flipped us over 180 degrees front to back so the car is facing the same direction we actually came from.

Everyone's saying myself and my girlfriend are lucky to be alive...

Did the driver of the other car stop (or get tracked down) ?

Yeah you should probably be dead or plugged into machines that would keep you alive.

Life is so randomly unpredictable. Chaos abounds. I wonder what the odds were of surviving that one? Phew!

That's one of the worst wrecks I've seen. Maybe you're like that guy from Unbreakable.
 
Wowza. The main thing is no one was hurt, killed, injured etc.

Not bad Chris... only a few months with a license and you've absolutely totalled a car already. :O

It's not that bad, the passenger cage looks to still be intact (although hidden by the tree, but you can see the back tyres and front tyres are where they're supposed to be), the front has just been seriously mashed by that tree.

Seatbelts and airbags saved the day. By the way chris, have you both been checked out by paramedics/doctors? Shock can hide pain and broken bones etc.

When did this happen, and what car did that used to be?

Yes, me and the girlfriend have escaped with a few minor cuts and brusies. Both taking a few days off work to recover as we're aching all over.

The car was a Fiat Punto... there's a chance that if it had been any other car or an older model that the outcome would have been completely different.

Looking at it, we still don't understand how we ended up facing the same direction in which we came from.

The other driver didn't stop. He was probably drunk and didnt want to be breathalised.
 
holy shit, quick run out and buy tons of lottery tickets, you're lucky to be unharmed/alive. Get yourself/girlfriend checked out immediately and pressure the cops to nab the drunk driver

Falling into a ditch is nothing. I fall into some ditches for ten times a year. The most important thing is you buckle your seat-belt well. It saves your life.

If you both haven't been for a medical checkup yet, definitely go. You can have slow injuries that you dont notice.

How the heck did you get out from that? I mean, normally you'd be in the ICU of a hospital, getting oxygen pumped into your lungs.
 
Can we get a side shot of the car? Has it been recovered now?

This happened to my brother about 3 weeks ago..he had to swerve to dodge a car overtaking on a blind corner while he was going 70mph down an A-road

He walked away with an aching wrist, the medics said he should of died that day. The person who caused this accident also drove off ..****ing makes me sick that people are like that. Glad your OK though dude.
