Im not sure if Half Life 2 will work on my computer. here are my system specs...

Intel Pentium III 500 MHz
Memory - 384 MB RAM
RADIEON 9200 Series Video Card
Video Memory - 128 MB
And a good enough sound card

Someone tell me if i can play HL2

woahhh 500 mhz...sorry lol but you are way behind :( find around 200-250 dollars and then we could help you upgrade ;)

The only thing you should update is your processor, to something better than 1,2 gHz.
vid card will do I guess.

for a processor, do you need to get a new computer? or can you just put it in?

Get a new motherboard/cpu/mem athlon cpu's dont cost all that much these days, or if you are not into building just buy a new computer i guess or have a friend or someone do it for you.

you need to get a mobo thats compatible with the cpu..

name how much money you have and we can help

im gonna get a 2Ghz one, screw the money problems, Half life 2 looks like a great game, thanks

Hmm, I think he'll need alot of assistance with this. :O

your Processor is the biggest problem. 500 mhz.. thats really old atleast get a 2.0 ghz processor or so because that CPU is your bottleneck at the moment.

lol well the price depends on the speed you want it to be at ;)

guys we should hook him up with a 2500+, those are cheap and good

don't just settle for something cheap though. as long as your upgrading either buy something on the upper end of the market or save enough money until you can. no sense in buying a cheap deal that your just probably going to want or need to upgrade in another year (especially when it comes to getting a new mother board and processor). your just gonna burn more money that way by constantly going for the cheap deals.

yes, but my guess is your going to need a new mother board to support a processor upgrade, which isn't altogether easy.

someone find this guy some good tutorials

Dylan, it sounds like you're a novice when it comes to the guts of your computer. That's not a bad thing, everybody starts that way.

My suggestion to you would be to buy the processor from an electronics store like PC Club, Circuit City, or Best Buy. They offer installation services and will switch out your old processor for the new one for a nominal fee (or sometimes for free). You'll need to bring your computer along as well, of course. It may cost a bit more this way, but the chances of ruining your computer are far less.

HL2 has lower requirements than most games in the market, even though it has better quality and everything...howcome?

valve designed HL2 to be smart enough to recognize different components of your system and disable the extra eye candy that the higher end systems can produce if your puter doesn't meet some of those requirements.

read this to get an idea of what i'm talking about

dylanlevanhalen, dont do any of this yourself. get help from someone who knows what they're doing.

that article made me a bit happier...looks like ill be alright with my dx 8 card ;)

Am i the only one who thinks he's pulling our legs????

He's not sure if his system specs are good enough.
He didn't see the HL2 benchmark thread and has posted this around the same time.
He says he has a good enough sound card (dispite his lack of knowledge of HL2 min specs).
With all due respect, he's asked some questions that you could easily find out (if he doesn't know the answers to them).
Also, i doubt you could easily buy a PC with his (unbalanced) specs (he's acting as though he doesn't know about upgrading PCs so i doubt he has).

wow, I thought i had the worst processor. I have a AMD Athlon 900 mghz, also with 384 mb ram, but geforce 4 mx 440. Soon to be P4 3.0 ghz, 1024 mb ram, ati radeon 9800 pro/xt.

And a new motherboard, but there is 1 thing that bothers me. If i buy a new motherboard like this 1 : http://www.asus.com/prog/spec.asp?m=P4PE&langs=01 , and for example after 2 years i wanna buy a new processor, will it fit on this motherboard again??

Because i dont wanna buy a motherboard that needs a upgrade once in a while.

what would be the point in that?

Don't know why trolls do what they do, i only know that they will continue to do so.

If it is a genuine post i apologize, although i doubt it.

Really if ur gonna start to get into gaming on ur pc, u gotta know atleast a little bit about the compnents of a pc and how they work and what they do. sure in the beginning none of us knew much about computers except that they could run really fancy lookin things on em. also hang around ppl who know stuff about computers try like tomshardware.com forums theres alotta computer tech geeks there, and if u know anybody that can build computers go over and watch him next time he builds one.

that, or just go to a shop and pay for the installation.. because u don't want to mess anything up since u seem to know almost zero about installations.

hey when i first decided to build my first pc, i didn't know much and i did it while following a crap tutorial. now i've built a total of 6, so really he could do it, he just needs to learn more about the compnents.

its pretty easy realy... i removed my CPU for the first time last week.. heck if i would have ruined it, i would not be posting here now would i??? Im planning on upgrading the CPU next week so i had to risk taking it out to see how it works and all.. :p
