Im just wondering if it is possible to install the game on a computer without an internet connection. The only computer i have that will run it, is not connected to the internet, ever. If anyone knows of a way around this i would be very greatful.

Look on the box under Minimum Requirements.

Internet Connection Required.

Yes i know that, i just wasn't sure if that was for internet play only, or if it really was required. Ill just wait to buy it till there is a way or i decide to spend the money on antivirus software.

Ok... minumum requirements are required and recomended are optional.

that being said. Internet Connection is REQUIRED but only to unlock the files the first time the game is launched. After that you can play offline. However you will not be able to patch your game as it must be patched via Steam.

You need internet so your copy can be authenticated online via Steam. After that, the computer does not need to be connected to the internet to play HL2.

There are ways around this but if you have a legitimate copy none of them are really viable options.

Cant you just connect that other PC to the internet for the install?

Nope, parents are anal, and retarded about all things new and technological. They basically think that the only thing on the internet is porn and people trying to rape little kids. So i just wont buy it till im off at college next fall. and how does having a legitimate copy make illegitamate means remove the viability of a solution? i obviously wont be playing online due to the lack of the internet.

Cant you just get one of this 99 free hours from AOL discs, use it to register it, then cancel it. You could get them to supervise then remove the access after you've done it. Worth a shot?

Its not really that big of a deal. i was just wondering if it was possible.

If you paid cash-monies for half life 2, and now can't play it due to some vaugly anal copy protection then patch it using one of the many offline patches out there. Your money, your game...

quickly install the good PC and connect it to the net, install HL² + steam on take it off and have fun.

there is a crack out there that decrypts the files without internet. I won't tell you where, but I know because I have used it to play my PURCHASED copy of HL2. It does have problems, like you have to rename some files so that some of the levels will load and when you do that the roller enemies wont appear in the COast levels. I had to do this just to get half way through the game, and then I heard there is at least one other point in the Coast levels where another files causes a crash and I dont know at this point which one it is. Plus, I dont plan on playing anymore with this crack because of the disappearance of that enemy. Guess I'll have to get internet at gome after all. I am in the same situation as you.

Man I feel bad for you. Having parents with that attitude toward the net would drive me crazy. sounds like they are blindly believing and interpreting every story about "bad" internet porn and child molesting the media looking for ratings through scary stories is telling them. hell I'm suprised they let you play the game at all, seeing has how as soon as you boot up the game and kill your first enemy you're going to become a trained, sociopathic murderer and all..

They absolutely blame video games for all the violence in the world, but i still can buy and play games as long as i dont "lock my self away for weeks at a time" in other words, play for more than an hour a day. But i really dont play more than that anyway due to college and all.
