Insurgency Mod Out Saturday or Sunday?!

Except that it plays nothing like CS. Seriously, aside from a modern setting, they're in no way comparable.
They're both close quarter games, and that's insurgency's biggest flaw. It's been mapped for as if it's CS.

I personally don't like it so far... I found myself tking alot... cause i can't tell whos on what side... yeah im still new to it but I dunno I can't get into it like I thought I would.

Thats half of the game, distinguishing friend from foe. It's pretty realistic you know.

I've played four maps so far, none of which can be described as "close quarters" and two have mostly very long range combat. It's mostly open street combat with some small passageways in which close quarters combat can take place.

I think Insurgency is a very good mix between the realism of RO and the movement of less realistic shooters. Red Orchestra was incredibly awkward when not fighting at more than 100m, Insurgency does this much more smoothly.

the first bug is after 30 seconds playing on each server, connection problem issue ?????

Played it a bit and liked it. The sounds are just amazing, reminds me a bit about DoD:S with the muffled distant gunfire.

However the animations is pretty subpar, walking and especially sprinting really needs to be redone. Also the voices for the insurgents is awful, instead of speaking their native language we hear them shout with English accent. Sometimes I've heard, while playing as the US, someone shouting "Reloading!" so I thought it was one of my team mates, but that wasn't case. I expected something from like Desert Combat but so far it isn't even near that quality.

I also noticed that sometimes I can't open up the squad menu when I'm dead waiting for the reinforcement wave.

I really have no idea what everyone's problem is with the running animations. They're perfect.

Now I'm getting the red ERROR models. Still there after restarting the game. I'll try again tomorrow.

The menu to change the weapons is really messd up, can;t find my objective either.

they need to install radar of some kind to tell us where the hell we are

Just got home, and I'm pleasantly suprised to find this is actually out. I will now proceed to play it in a semi intoxicated state. 33mins remaining! \o/

It's really a great mod, definitely worth money once it goes out of beta stage.

Best. mod. ever.

So god damn atmospheric.

My only gripe now is really the player animations, it looks like they slide around all over the place... and no I'm not lagging.

This game needs a radar, a BF2 esque squad menu, and a brand new class selection menu.

It's great, but it gets ruined by idiots. People just run around and do their own thing, because there's absolutely NOTHING that rewards team play.

It's a very good mod. I found it to be very similar to the America's Army game, or a slower-paced game of DoD.

I will agree that there is a lot of confusion with where to go and what to do; at least in the marines. That often leads to the insurgence winning. But there is something that this mod has: atmosphere. I really feel like I'm in a firefight with the sounds, gunfire, explosions, etc.

I think we need a new thread for INS discussion, but as people are posting impressions here...

@Sinko, supposedly you get a point modifier or steady point gain or something of that sort by being near squad mates, squad objectives, etc... But I don't really know.

Anyway.
I like it. It's pretty fast and deadly. True spraying won't save you, but you aren't useless with the sites down. I really like the free-aiming system (Similar [identical] to RO), it feels MUCH more intuitive than a crosshair to me.

Maps are okay, I suppose, but the two I played alot, Karkar and Almaden I believe, weren't terribly enjoyable. Karkar is open in one part of the map, and a damn maze in another. If you get pushed back to the mine as ins, you are gonna have half your team wandering the tunnels in circles. Almaden is just pretty linear (Understandable). However it only has two real chokepoints, one on the left and one on the right, which INS dominate easily. (At least I can hold it solo easily, racking up the kills). I have never seen USMC win Almaden, but then I've only played an hour or two on it at most.

My main gripe is the complete lack of any tips, instruction etc. It makes me want to design a quick Training map for people, that is very simplistic and open to you can see what is going on, and then apply it to the dense urban environments.

I don't like how only the commander can do any real leadership with his/her voice and compass controls. Too often the Comm is a noob or someone afk, and everyone just runs around aimlessly BECAUSE there is no direction without a competent leader.

Just got my arse kicked on Ramadi. It actually ran pretty good on my old 9800 Pro. Reading about this mod bringing X1900XT's down to 20-30fps I was shitting myself. Didn't really have a clue what was going on, most of the game was me running out into the street and getting killed. However there was one time when I turned a corner indoors with my RPK and shredded two marines. That was awesome.

We seriously need to organize a HL2.net game, ASAP!

Yeah.

You get rewarded for teamwork with your life. You're dead meat as a lonewolf.

Am I the only one that doesn't like getting corralled into a certain class if you join late? I had to go to work so fast earlier tonight I couldn't post my impressions, but when I joined a server, I got the last slot. When selecting a slot, I got stuck with the ONLY open one....RPG Gunner.

I'm all for limiting classes like snipers and heavy machine gunners, but at least let an infinite amount of people be riflemen.

Movement is a little wonky if you ask me, characters that carry RPGs have an invisible box around them that is quite large and impassable (you also can't move an inch while you reload the RPG.

Also, the mod runs pretty slow even when I turn off AA/AF and HDR (which seemed to activate at completely random times). I chug along pretty slow when everything else in Source runs perfectly with everything maxed out.

Time to give it another shot, I'm on xfire.

I'm about to load a game up if anyone is interested...

I now laugh at all the ones who said this mod would be poo poo.

BWHAHAHHAAHAHHAHHAHAHAHHAHHAAHAH

Radar would against the whole concept of this mod.

Really enjoying this. The combat is great fun, really satisfying when drop a couple of people.

RPK ftw!

I was able to begin my download instantly off Fileplanet. Kinda nice, thought I was gonna have to wait a while.

The only major thing I see this mod needing right away is a map. Nobody seems to know where to go or what to do, so the map I played was basically a deathmatch until the time ran out and the insurgents won. Even after playing the same map for a long time I still couldn't figure out the layout. There is instant death around every corner in the game, so you can't afford getting lost. And it would still be realistic, since no soldiers would ever be put in a combat zone having no idea where anything is. Gameplay is amazing though.

Installing right now.

Weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

Not gonna lie really liking this mod!! The sound and gameplay is money!! :sniper:

The sound and gameplay are good.

The teamplay is nonexistent.
The 3rd person animations are atrocious.
The weapon choosing system is absolute bollocks.
The graphics are pretty.
Not much lag.

Pretty dang fun, i'll have to play it some more.

Looks might good too. Surprised how good it looks and how well it runs.

There's a map layout when you're loading in the server.

Couple of things that bother me:
- voice acting is really annoying, the insurgent "frrrrrrrraag out" is obnoxious.
- squad/weapon menu needs work.
- can't go from prone to crouch.
- communication menu needs more options.

This is a difficult mod. Although I don't mind difficulty, it gets in the way of having "fun" or sense of accomplishment.

One thing thats really beginning to bother me is the pistols. Pistols are the ultimate in maneuverability and speed in the real world, but in they seem to slow you down versus other guns... They should be quickly drawn and have a much lighter trigger... I don't know, they just don't feel right. At least they have the correct power in contrast to other games.

Apparently the game is overrun with morons tonight. There was one guy sitting in the spawn TKing everyone, but the worst was some guy crashing just about every server. Me and a ton of other people were migrating from server to server like refugees(somewhat appropriate considering the game)trying to get away from that loser.

Things I would alter:

There needs to be a kill indicator. I completely understand why they didn't add one, but it bothers me that I don't know who I killed or who killed me.

Pistols, like Infern0 said, need to be lighter overall.

There needs to be a mini map for the game to be at least accessible. Right now, no one knows what to do and every game mode is rendered into pure TDM.

You need to be able to move a little while reloading the RPG.

I like the idea of having an unlimited amount of Assaulters (M4/AK) and a limited amount of other classes. Maybe the Assault class could just be the default class and the only other selectable classes are the auxiliary ones.

Am I the only person that can't run this game for shit?

My comp runs everything else in Source just fine on max (including AA/AF/HDR), but this thing chugs at like 15fps 50% of the time when I have everything on lowest details (no AA/AF/HDR).

I even updated my Nvidia drivers.

There's a bunch of things that annoy the hell out of me in this mod.

Movement is wonky, people bunch up too easily because there's a massive box around them that is impassable. I've had 3ft gaps between a teammate and a wall and I can't get through it.

There's way too many TK'ers and spawn campers. I can't count the number of times I've died within the first 3-5 seconds of spawning.

It'd be nice to have some more specific markers of where to go (even if there isn't a commander putting them down or whatever)

I HATE the class system. I can understand limiting the number of snipers or something, but having 1-2 slots for each class SUCKS. I get in and the only class available is always the ****ing RPG or a support gunner. Even if you get in early and get something you like, after 5 minutes or so you're stuck with it because every other slot will be gone. This also makes people that are commanders get stuck in the class and they have to reconnect so somebody that knows what they're doing can take their place (I've only seen 1 person actually reconnect).

Also, does anybody else have to aim down really far to have a trajectory even close to flat with the M203?

I hope some of this stuff gets fixed soon.

Oh yeah, NEVER use bandages..chances are you'll just get stuck in the map (as if I haven't spawned inside the map enough).
