Iron sights

when people talk about 'iron sights' relating to games, just picture what YOU would see if you put the gun up to eye level to make an aimed shot.

it actually makes for very good gameplay in games like call of duty and vietcong. you can still make a regular 'unaimed' shot like you are used to in normal games, but if you hit the iron sights key(toggle or momentary) you'll bring the gun to eye level so you can make a very precise shot. very satisfying to kill people with it.

If you ever do play AA use ironsights or you won't hit a thing at any range.
I agree I couldnt ever see myself using ironsights in HL1 but if there are some nice long range spaces in HL2 it would be nice to have.

Not necessary in my oppinion, and i think iamaelephant is spamming more then me... look at his replies in this thread for instance...

Iron sights are cool, but not in halflife. I dunno why. I just dont think it would fit in.

Now that I inputed into the thread, check out the latest email from valve thread I just got an answer to.

I think that basically shoves the rumours of the source haveing to be re done out of the window! :)

I used to play DoD with iron sights, it was excellent. It really added to the realism, and I seemed to get much better scores with it because it felt natural.

How does that shove the rumor of source having tobe redone? He doesn't answer your question

I dont really think the idea fits in well with half life... but I am sure someone who really wants it, and is a good modder, will more than be happy indulging the people that want it as a feature.

Personally, I dig iron sites when they're done well like in CoD. It was realistic cause it doesn't zoom in at all, it just raises the site, makes you walk slower, and makes your shots almost pin-point accurate. I don't see why this has to be a WWII or "ultra-realistic" game feature. People still use iron sites for most guns today anyway. Anyone that's shot at a shooting range knows how wildly inacurate "shooting from the hip" actually is.

I like guns that make you work for your shot, not simple point-and-clicks. I'm all for finite bullet velocity and iron sites in HL2. I'm also for left-right leans, crouching, and prone positions. The features tend to make fire fights a lot more interesting and fun. And if you don't want to use them, don't.

Iron sights are great in games that are just about shooting with guns.

Half-Life 2 is not just about shooting with guns.

Yah, I guess you're right, it's also about pummeling with the crowbar. But I'm pretty sure the crowbars don't have sites.

America's Army has the slickest iron sights :)
CoD is a close second

AA definitely has some tight iron sites, but I think they're a bit too realistic for HL2. I think CoD style iron sites could be pulled off in HL2 and really enhance the firefights.
