No shit it ****ing sucks when u look like that much of a fat ugly cock go get a job, oh wait you cant u look like a ****ing retarded clown.

rant over

i dont have a problem with emo bands or emo ppl.. unless they do the whole cuttung wrist part. thats just stupid

queever

Pennywise is Emo.

A perfect example of EMO suckability

I was down Barfly last night to see Adequate Seven, a ska/punk/rock band, they were very cool, full of energy and a laugh. The band touring with them, Captain Everything, a really funky heavy punk band, good stuff. However before them there was an awfult EMO band, they seemed so cliched with the straightened and dyed hair, guitars stuck up near their necks, and they were just so boring. Nothing special, they even spent more time posing to the girls at the front than any other band i have seen.

My conclusion.....EMO sucks monkey dick

To me emo is unbalanced due to the fact the emo's tend to only focus on one or two emotions (sadness and anger).

Emo is also exclusive and a click since I bet an emo kid wearing bright colors and just really excited about life wouldn't be accepted by the emo crowd because happiness is not an emotion they really don't want to look nerdy sportin around.

Also emo seems to me to be a fad since emo kids tend to have the same kind of clothes and look. The same typical symptoms any teenage fad throughout history suffers from "OMG be different. Be an individual. So therefore look like us."

Yeah, EMO's are meant to feel unique in their anger and suffering, yet they all look the same!! It is just a passing fad like Indie, soon Metal will rise again to the main stream

There something seriously wrong with this culture when you get these stupid subcultures every week. It doesn't happen in any other culture. Why are people so damned desperate to give themselves an identity in this culture?

Wtf does that mean?

And yes, emo people are bad. Fortunately, my whole school looks down on them. Unfortunately, my school is 40% emo.

it means western culture is so hedonistic and materialistic, that most of the youth are going through identity crisises.

Not again.

Not really, but I'm going to bed now, so I can't really argue at the moment. :p

Fine, let's have a look... shall we?

Ignorance. You obviously don't have much experience with other cultures... yet you make lots of sweeping generalizations about them. Name one culture that doesn't contain people that want to do something important and/or memorable. Name one culture in which no children go through an identity crisis. They are practically universal traits. It's not abnormal to be unsure of your future, what you want to do with your life, why bad things happen, why we're here, and other things pondered during an identity crisis. Children usually don't worry about those issues at a very young age and they tend to have trouble grasping those concepts even if they actually focus on them. Some people don't even really think about things like that until they're middle-aged. Either practically the entire world is ****ed up or you're wrong. Choose wisely.

What makes subcultures seem so pervasive and helps them thrive? I'll give you a hint. You're using it right now. If you haven't guess it, yet... it's called "the Internet." How else would thousands of Half-Life 2 fans from across the globe converge into one place? How else would something like "myspace" become so popular? The Internet exposes you to things to which you would have otherwise never been exposed thereby distorting your vision of reality. If the Internet represented the real world... it would be quite a strange world.

Oh, and don't be so arrogant as to call everyone else's personal decisions "stupid"... lest you might be lumped into that "stupid" category by others (actually, it could be too late for that).
it means western culture is so hedonistic and materialistic, that most of the youth are going through identity crisises.
Let's break that down. Most means more than half. So, more than fifty percent of the children in the USA are going through an abnormal identity crisis (since, by saying that it is the result of something else, you imply that it is abnormal)? I find that decidedly hard to believe... especially if I include personal experience. The burden of proof is on the one that makes the claim. Where is the evidence for all of your psuedointellectual, paranoid, antisocial babble? So far, all I can gather is a poorly stitched together mesh of several standard (and ever so rehashed) conspiracy theories, falsified statistics, and distorted statements. Is there more to your logic? We're all waiting with bated breath...

Also, recent studies (including one posted on this very forum) show that many of the perceived intercultural differences (the ones your whole argument rests upon), in fact, do not exist except in a few minor cases (such as the Germans actually being somewhat more industrious than average and other things of that nature). Historical accounts of the youth of thousands of years ago in vastly different cultures from our own are often so similar to current complaints that they could be mistaken for modern social critiques (well, obviously, after translation). Things just aren't changing as much as people think they are. A lot of that perception is merely part of the aging process.

Anyway, this has been an enormous waste of time. Next time, I hope a simple "no" will suffice.

That's a cyber answer cyber man. Thank you for your time.

However, I still think that the western culture, a culture based on hedonism and the pursuit of material wealth (correct me if Im wrong) will cultivate people who are selfish, greedy and do not believe in any higher values then the values that benefit themselves individually. And alot of people (as they are human beings and not hedonistic animals) I would think, feel that living life based purely on hedonism and pursuit of material wealth is an empty and purposeless life. Hence, i would attribute this feeling of emptiness to the reason subculture form, as they are an attempt to escape this feeling by belonging or becoming a part of something that is greater than the self. Whether that be your emo culture, or your neo nazi cult.

Now I would think, that the united states, the place where this hedonistic, material, consumerist and commodity culture was born, would be a prime place where so many people would be looking for something to belong to, as it is the core of where this emptiness people feel originated.

Why am I a part of this forum? In all honesty, I have nothing better to do. Lets think about it. I don't really know my neighbors as they are cut off from me with a fence. The friends I make at university are mostly superficial as everyone in uni is (supposedly) concerned for their own educational interests and not concerned for a greater, universal and unifying interest. I walk onto a train packed full of people and all I can hear is the clickity clack of the train tracks. My immediate environment (By which I mean the things I percieve from my immediate surroundings and not from electronic mediums) is hopelessly alone, because in this culture based on hedonism, I have no need to talk to anyone and anyone has no need to talk to me, unless it is in my or their interests. I am surronded by strangers. Hence my lonliness. Hence the emptiness I feel. Hence the refuge I find in HL2.net forums. Because I don't have the people in my immediate environment to fill the emptiness I feel, I come here and try to fill it with in these forums.
Wouldnt you agree this is the case with yourself, and many others in this forum? Do you know who your neighbors are? Do you regard your collegues or uni-friends or who ever they may be as an important part of your life?
Because thats how it is in other cultures. Most people don't have the internet, Half-life 2 or television to spend endless hours on. Instead they go out and play soccer in the streets like in brazil, or go spend time with the people in their immediate environment. They don't go through identity crisis, because they belong to their immediate environment, they know their goddamn neigbors, where as Cyber whores like us are strangers in our immediate environment (more so then them anyway).
I don't know who you are, I don't know your name, age, what you look like, I don't know the way you smile or the way your breath stinks, so you tell me, how much can I possibly satisfy my social need to interact with you or others by resorting to internet forums?

Awwwww.

(People are hedonistic and materialistic by their very nature, surely?).

You might try checking out The Postal Service's stuff. It is quite good. I only know of them because my friend is into hyper-obscure\stuff-I-don't-about emo bands. They have some good stuff. Particularly check out "The District Sleeps Alone Tonight".

Favorite part?

"You seem so out of context/ In this gaudy apartment complex/
A stranger with your door key/ Explaining that I'm just visiting/
And I am finally seeing why I was the one worth leaving"

Good song.

edit: sorry, fairly loaded. I used "Good" entirely too many times in that post.
Christ, the Postal Service aren't emo.. they're just good ;)

And @ Frenzy, I have no idea what you're on about - a lot of my friends at Uni mean a lot to me :)

No, that is not the case with me. I initially stuck around here because I was looking for information about Half-Life 2. That started mid-2003. Then, after the delay finally ended, I had been coming here and posting for over a year. I formed a habit. I don't come here because I lack friends or things to do. I come here because I'm lazy. I'm too lazy to break the habit. I'm not on the computer to go to HalfLife2.net... it's just one of the windows I have open. I use the Internet to get my fix of news, have a little fun, and be productive. I have 20+ sites that I check every day to stay on top of what's happening in the world. I use it to learn about things like medicine, psychology, physics, art, politics, etc. I use it to teach myself how to program, model, speak another language, and several other things. Trust me, you're not a large chunk of my day.

Anyway, all that information you said you don't know about me has actually been given on this forum at one point or another. I'm not going to keep reposting it over and over so that new people know who I am... but it's there.

WTF man. So 40% of your school look down upon their selves and their friends?

I found almost the entire posts that were posted here extremely offensive. Emo does not mean your daddy's a bigshot lawyer and you get an allowance of 50 bucks a day, plus bonuses.
And I found the whole idea of emos wasting their life writing poetry and crying even more offensive. Do you people honestly think that everybody who's considered emo thinks their life sucks?

Shutup emo.

This is exactly what shit I'm talking about.

What makes emos like that is because they have nobody to talk to. Makes them feel like nobody cares about them, so they get depressed, and when they are in one of their lower moods, they cut themselves to get their minds off of it. Just because someone has a Jaguar, 3 story house, and an iPod mini doesn't mean they're happy.

Absinthe was probably joking, but he doens't like to use smileys :p

That's exactly my ****ing point. I'm a poet. But I don't consider me writing poetry a waste of time. It's a therapy so I don't have to bitch to everyone else about my problems.

Uh-huh. You know, in my experience, this is exactly what most emo people aren't - this is the emo stereotype. If it is true for anyone, I will say this: no-one to talk to? Go talk to someone. if you feel lonely and like nobody cares about you, for god's sake go out somewhere and meet people, make some friends, it really isn't very hard. Even if you're a complete arse you'll still probably make a few friends.

'My life sucks' emo is bad. 'Most people I know' emo doesn't seem to be nearly so stupid.

Not compared to the guy who thinks he's a satanist, waffles on about vampires all the bloody time and spouts regurgetated and irrelevant quotes along the lines of "sex, drugs, rock and roll, speed, weed, birth control (eccetera)" all the bloody time.

It isn't a waste of time, because you write good poetry

But as Sulky here said, just go out and make friends. I think it's hard not to have friends at all. Although, there's this one guy that doesn't have any friends at all. Poor guy. No one can stand him for more than five minutes. One day he'll go on a killing spree and shoot himself in the foot and go to jail.

...

Ok enough speculating for me :p

I'm not saying that emo people have no friends. I'm saying that they don't have any close friends. I myself am not emo, but I used to be. When emos say 'life sucks' they don't mean their life sucks, they mean life in general sucks.

Emo is terrible, its a negative view on life and it drags everyone around them down with them.

Yes, emo is bad. The reason is because emo is pussy. Girls dont like emo, too. The reason is because girls have pussy, they don't need another.

Except the dikes, they want pussy, and they see emo as relating to the feminine qualities and therefore group with them. Stupid bitches.

I reiterate what i first said about you people and emo.

That being, none of you have any idea about emo besides the obvious stereotypes.

Emo is ghey.

Why? BECAUSE IT'S WHINY. "oh my poor life" blah blah, these people have never lived in a third world country, they have no right. It just pisses me off.

And I am talking about bands like GC and Simple Plan.
