This was discussed in another thread and we all agreed on that the game has been saved just before the screenshot was taken. Probably because they wanted to make sure to get a good screenshot of that flaming zombie

Gordon is considered to be an idol and hero amongst the resistance I think, so I guess the rebels have taken the lambda symbol from his HEV suit as the emblem for their cause.

they spray it on walls and tunnels and stuff. so you know which way is safer or which way to go, and also they wear the lambda symbol so you know who they are, its like an underground way of saying "hey im part of the resistance"
