Steam is awesome, just look at the polls on these forums for how many people are going to get hl2 from Steam, and just look at the number of servers running Steam, well over 10,000 when I looked today.

Buying it on steam, because I trust valve to have it there for purchase on the 30th, but i dont trust australian distributors + retailers to have it on that date

valve should equip steam with peer-to-peer capability like bitorrent, so that when everyone downloads the encrypted hl2, the steam servers arent completely overloaded. so then part of ur download would be from servers, part from other users. maybe someones already discussed this possiblity and its in the works who knows
