Isreali Soldier Kidnapped by Palestinian militants

I'm getting sick of people on the left and right trying to defend one or the other. They're both at fault here for their tactics.

QFT. And now the stupidity is getting out of hand. Again.

Jewish civilian actions against Arabs: harsh words....a big fence?

God forbid they arent allowed to defend themselves.
True true. :)

...no one is the innocent victem here ..except of course the civilians caught on both sides
Also true. Like I said war is war. The civilized make rules of engagement and attempt to secretly break them, while the uncivilized fight with no remorse and no regret; while the scattered bodies of dead children fill the street this means little to them, true for the civilized as well. It's a disgusting thing, but it's conflict that drives the humanity. It always has been. Their will always be a bad guy, evil agenda, a lightning rod to focus hatred on. Something for one to strive against.

At least Israel fights a real war without suicide bombers.

War isn't a good option for either side though...

A real war?.
Pray,what is that?

Not resorting to random suicide bombings, IMO. Destroying infrastructure rather than breeding terror.

isreali soldiar "kidnapped" by palestinian militants? why? oh yeah, well maybe it's because THERE'S A ****ING WAR OVER THERE!
do you know how many palestinians get killed by isrealis everyday? why isn't that all over the news? now an isreali soldiar is "kidnapped" and it's all over the news...

quite.

Although it is new worthy becuase Isreal are preparing a major offensive in retalliation.

I wouldn't call it kidnapped, because he's like a POW.

This'll be interesting to see if they actually do attack.

Well, there's been a few airstrikes, and tanks are driving through the border now... I'd say they're already attacking

Interesting how Palestinian militants kidnap this young guy just as the Palestinian government was going to "accept Israel".
Certain ppl just dont want peace, :(
Also a very stupid move of Israel to go in full force and fall for this. I dont see much good coming from that action.
Though i can imagine a bit of frustration since there are hundreds of rockets being fired by Palestinian militants on Gaza..
Nevertheless, this action will only hurt palestinian civilians, not the militants :( It wont do the peace process any good, :(

Its easy to "want peace"... everyone wants peace.. its the conditions of peace that everyone is in disagreement about

When a soldier is kidnapped by the enemy he usually becomes a POW.
Israel really should not have stepped up the offensive - now it'll take months to restore normalcy.

It seems they (Israel) value the life of one of they're own more so than the politicial, economical and social situation in the surronding territories.
Commendable, but I suppose. It paints a picture, that Israel will not tolerate agression. Break the will of your enemy, but with an enemy has suffered so much in the past such a task difficult. As suggested above, it wouldnt be the militants that feel the wraith of IDF, but the peasants, the women and children that don't seek conflict. The only war they wish to fight is that of life. Having enough water for themselves and they're children and so forth.

Any way you look at it, your not going to make anyone happy. :smoking:

The whole conflict has been tit-for-tat "getting your own back!" type fighting.. this stupidest kind.

or it could be a pretext to invasion, just like 9/11 was a pretext for invading Iraq. This isnt first time a israeli soldier has been kidnapped except in most cases they negotiated for their release.

I could be a pretext for an invasion, but I don't see anything Israel would gain in a suggested imperialistic campaign. What is in Gaza? It's a desert. You've got some ocean side real estate which might be good for agriculture, besides that... meh, it's a desert.

This isnt negotiation? A soldier was captured. His peaceful release was suggested. It didnt happen. EDIT: 'IDF strikes put the pressure on' (Worked late, little tired.)

Indeed. It seems like an excuse to go after some of their least favorite Hamas members, especially when they say that striking out at them even in Syria in particular is completely justidied:
His Public Security Minister, Avi Dichter, told Israeli radio that Hamas leaders based in Syria could be attacked.

Syria, he said, had chosen to ignore Israeli warnings, "therefore this gives Israel full permission to attack these assassins".
Source.

Its going to get worse before it gets better I fear....

They destroyed the only power station in Gaza. Millions are now left without power.

Going in this heavy handedly is not going to do anybody any good. All it will serve to do is piss off the extremists further, and radicalise the moderates - they will take their anger out on a busfull of Israeli schoolkids, no doubt. Also, the fact that they're going in with hundreds of tanks, instead of a few teams of special forces (which is what they usually do in this sort of situation) suggests to me that they dont really know where this guy is, and this is a big propaganda exercise, designed as a show of force for the Palestinians and as reassurance for the Israelis.

Seriously, I ****ing hate this world sometimes.

They should go straight into Gaza with massive armor in a show of force.

They should've just sent like...Mossad or something. No need to pour salt into the wound already.

and do what exactly? fire into crowded markets? steamroll over mosques during prayer? organize the world's largest tailgate party?

The Palestinians are setting up roadside bombs and all sorts of booby traps. They're trying to draw Israel in.

Yeah...

What possible good would that do?

I have numerous properties by or near the valley of Megiddo. If you would like to rent or buy a property for the final battle<soon>get in touch and make a offer.

A warning that if they continue on that path of self destructive behavior Israel will strike with an iron fist in self defense.

ya that makes perfect sense ..threaten the majority that if the minority acts out they too will be punished

Too bad that minority is pretty closely affiliated with those in power. :(

The majority voted Hamas into power.

73% of the Palestinians support an Israeli state along with a Palestine state. They voted Hamas to power of completely different reasons, such as employment and health care.

and? should they pay the price for what their government does? if that's true then americans would be liable for the war in iraq

btw the military wing and parliamentary wing are seperate entities, they rarely see eye to eye and Abbas has absolutely no control over either wing

We are, unfortunately. Even fellow Americans want a piece of us! Ack!

But the gulf between Fatah and Hamas has gotten noticably smaller since the incursion. Even so:

"The military wing [of Hamas] has placed a bomb in [Haniyeh's] hands, almost certainly without having consulted him beforehand," write Amos Harel and Avi Issacharoff in this Haaretz analysis.

Not the best idea in a region so volatile and with so little support from the international community already....

really? I dont see that ..in fact I see mostly support ..sure there's some criticism here and there but man you should be storming the white house and dragging the top 3 into the streets to be tarred and feathered ..I think americans are more apologetic ("bush is dumb, this war is dumb") rather than really pissed off like they should be

Remember, remember (to vote on) the 5th of November...or something like that, right?;)

God-willing (heh:O), you'll see it at the polls in a few months. But seriously, name the most hated country on the planet right now: its not Iraq or Syria or East Timor or China or even North Korea--its the US and that's where any terrorists, foreign or domestic, are going to focus their anger and hatred. I am not blindly afraid of such, but I do recognize that its probably very true that we will potentially be targeted wherever we go on this planet, abroad and at home. I kind of wish I were Swiss right now....

ya but that wasnt the case in my lifetime ..that's recent ...I mean if the entire nation comes to a standstill because Clinton got his knob polished by some not-so-smart-intern surely bush's lies would get him drawn and quartered

That whole clinton/bj thing was bullshit anyways. I mean damn...the guy was under a lot of pressure. Ain't nothin' wrong with a bj from some chick.

Hell his wife wasn't doing anything.

his wife made her political career because of her silence ..she was very smart ..too bad she uses it for teh evil
