Isreali Soldier Kidnapped by Palestinian militants

ya but that wasnt the case in my lifetime ..that's recent ...I mean if the entire nation comes to a standstill because Clinton got his knob polished by some not-so-smart-intern surely bush's lies would get him drawn and quartered
Yeah, that whole thing blows my mind. I am still amazed at the ridiculousness of this country sometimes. The media loves a nice juicy scandal more than some dry geopolitical skullduggery...but of course we only feed into it with our complicitiy, like the war, like high videogame console prices, etc....

Violence is ok, but sex is not.

Or so they'd have you believe.

A warning that if they continue on that path of self destructive behavior Israel will strike with an iron fist in self defense.

The Israelis have been doing that for years, and its not done either side any good. Again, I really dont see how charging in with hundreds of tanks and destroying Gaza's infrastructure (which will harm Palestinian civilians - people the Israelis need on their side) is going to help. Surely they will stand a better chance of rescuing this kid if they use standard hostage rescue procedure.

Very noble thoughts, but standard hostage rescue procedures rarely work with POWs. It could be upto a decade before a new peace initiative comes along and both sides release the POWs in a show of "mutual trust and respect".

True, but what I meant was that they should use special forces teams to extract him, like the US/UK do with hostages in Iraq. But then again, I'm not in their position, and I dont have all the facts about the situation.

Anyhoo, the Israelis have started rounding up Hamas politicians in Gaza. While I have no sympathy for them (Hamas) at all, it does seem to suggest that the Israeli rescue operation is an excuse for a wider offensive.
