...but I've loved every day of it.

That's right, I registered exactly five years ago today, at the ripe young age of 14. I typed "Halflife2.net" in the address bar on a whim after reading an article in Surge magazine about the HL2 source code theft. There was no frontpage, just a link to the forums. I joined and the rest is history.

So thanks for five long years of friendship, intellectual stimulation, and occasional irritation! This is my favorite forum ever <3 :D

How'd you find / come to join HL2.net?

I really can't remember how I joined this forum, but yeah it's alright.

I'm kidding IT'S AWESOME!

LOVE YOU HL2NET
LOVE YOU ENNUI

I was looking for information about Half Life 2 on google and I found this site. Then I joined, lurked for a few months and decided to become an active member around Feb 2008. I never imagined at the time that I would love you all so much <3

Oh great, now we get to have HL2.net anniversary threads. :D

Played all the HLs and really enjoyed them, went on the internet looking to theorize something about manhackss (lol). I never left.

I thought this was going to be a "It's been a good run but see you guys!" thread.

<hugs Ennui> thanks for staying!

I stumbled upon this haven when I was trying to find out about Episode 3, and I've never regretted coming here =D

:D Haha, nah, I've already sworn in the past (if you search you can probably find it) that I'll be posting until the day this site goes under forever. I plan on keeping that promise... it could be a long while before that happens though. Here's to another five years.

These forums have really matured me, socially and intellectually.

I'm not sure what I'd be like if I hadn't spent so much time on the net, and here.

I'm not the kind of person that can easily make friends in real life or who loves going out, so I think this was really the best way for me. I think if you ignore the 'pathetic' connotations of spending your life on the internet, you could say spending this much time socializing with people of such variety from around the world has matured me much more than I could have hoped for with real life socializing.

Join Date reset!!

Hell, I came here after getting sick of the idiots over at forumplanet.com. Kind of a big "elitist" community. If you were there at the start, then you're just some newb that gets flamed at everything you say. So, really, I haven't moved very far with this place!
;)

*EDIT* I have to agree with Vegies. I had piss-poor grammar skills, and I typ3d l1k3 4 n3wb!!!!#12112 Now I can actually type like a human being and hold up decent conversations....as long as Goatse is involved also.

I found hl2.net back in May 2003 I think? Right after E3? Lurked until I joined in '04.

Almost six years... Christ.

And so few posts :c

NeptuneUK <3's hl2net

Thanks for keeping me all these years.
(I spent most of them lurking)

My first posts were ridiculously immature :D
(Not much has changed)

I found this site, lurked for probably a year, then decided to join (secretly, as I didn't know how my parents would react). I like it here. :)

You were afraid of your parents getting mad at you signing up for a forum...? D:

*sentimental pap*

How'd you find / come to join HL2.net?

And we couldn't imagine it without you. :)

Edit: That sounded far too polite for me, I meant to say those 5 years must have been agony for all involved. :)

I found it like most folk probably, I had installed and played HL2, and then I wanted to talk about it (read: flame), googled and found it.

Its only 1 of two forums I frequent often so I guess it does something right (read: It isn't as strict as my other forum of choice...).

Here's to five years of Ennui, with the ill-fitting forum alias. :imu:

found this site in 03/04 and lurked until I signed up and became semi-active :p

After I fianlly finished Ep2, I realizxed noone else I know plays Half-Life, so I looked for a forum where people love HL.

And I found it.

I <3 HL2.net!

On the end of a very boring 2006 summer I joined here to talk about the only highlight of that summer, playing Half-Life 2 (oh and finishing secondary school). It was amazing around that time, so many great topics to contribute too, but the noobs have slowly become greater than the amount of cool people and the top half of the forums have pretty much capitulated. Hopefully EP3 will get it going again.

But still the bottom half is still great, and love it here, even if I don't know many people too well. I would like to though :D

This is my 4 year anniversary. I registered because of Vortigaunts.

Yeah joined cause I was wondering if I could run the OB. I never knew I would spend so much time on it.

Happy new year!

5 years and 3 months (ha ha, I'm better) and I've enjoyed every minutes of it even if I took a long while off there. I can't believe it's been half a decade, crazy shit.

I did something bad in a previous life.

I've been around here ever since googling for info after watching the HL2 E3 2003 video. Like so many others, I went from noob to awesome. I am now stuck.

March 29th 2007, playing Gmod at my friend's house, loved it.
March 31st 2007, bought HL2 and Gmod via Steam.
Played HL2 for the first time, really wanted to play Gmod so left it for a few weeks.
Played HL2 alot more after a few weeks.
Searched Half life 2 in Google and it came up with this place, then joined, posted a few times. Then I forgot about it, left it for 2 months then returned for good and here I am.

It was early 2003, and the news about hl2 was just starting to come out. Needless to say as a huge HL fan I was beyond excited and searched for half life 2. I found this site, was the first half life 2 dedicated fan site I found and I decided to join. And I've been here ever since, in a few months I will have been here for 6 years. Time flies.

Got HL2 for Christmas and looked for a HL2 forum... that's about it, yeah. Weird, though: my account here is older by about 7 days than my Steam account. That's how dedicated I am.

I have no idea how I found out about it, but I was directed to an IRC channel for a new hl2 site that was setting up, and I joined shortly after.

I remember having a conversation with a guy that had managed to get an email response from Valve about the crows looking "a bit lifeless" in the first dock video that had leaked out of E3, so i sent 3 questions off and they got answered, and then the "Info you recieved from valve" thread got started, which lead to a huge torrent of emails and info, which became the source of many bullshit news posts on other websites, and knowledge of valves open email policy indirectly lead to the code leak... its funny, at the time I felt like me and that IRC guy were partly responsible!

I'm happy to say the days of over analysing every video and screenshot for dodgy shadow clipping and missing water reflections ended once the game released.

I don't friggin' remember.

I think I went to HLFallout first but then I ended up here in an accident involving a particle accelerator and a rubber band.

Joined this site on my birthday of all days, after seeing the E3 vids. Was on 56k at the time so I couldn't really do anything with Steam. Ended up getting the CSS beta though. This site is just too awesome for words.
I love you guys!

im on here longer than you ennuii

thats not a good thing though i guess

Funny how we both joined before he did but his power level is greater than ours combined.

Ennui I was about to e-punch you in the head; I thought this was gonna be an "I'm leaving the forums" thread. Swear to god. Right in your head.

I don't remember how I got here. Maybe I came over from PHL. That sounds the most probable.
