Went through the payment process and eventually it said it couldnt process my tranasaction cos steam too busy but I would be able to play HL:Silver straight away and they will get back to me with the results of my transaction!

Don't worry it's come through. Steam just informed my that my transaction has completed. So no freebie for me. Understandably things are taking some time to process. It'll be with you eventually.
