I can't feel my face from the bottom lip down. It's going to hurt later, isn't it?

is your face swollen? thats what happened to me...

its a good thing you got it done during the holidays, so none of your friends will see you and laugh :)

Sarcasm?

Mine are still coming in.... they dont hurt or feel like they are pushing on anything, so do they still need to be removed?

ya, it will probably hurt, but im sure u got a prescription for painkillers, if not, you got screwed

why do you need to get them removed anyways?? I have one growing on the right side but not on the left.

No sarcasm... my face was truly swollen after I got my wisdom teeth removed and I looked freakishly hilarious. I had it done during the Thanksgiving holidays, thankfully, because it took a week for the swelling to go down.

because for most people their jaw isn't large enough to support them and it causes the teeth to get bunched up and cramped trying to make room, leading to crooked teeth (or worse cases where the wisdom teeth, having no room to grow upward actually grow downward into the jaw nerves and it causes very bad pain).

They were all coming in sideways or something. I have no idea if I got any painkillers.

Oh, I thought you were being sarcastic... because now all his family and relatives will see it and laugh. Or at least if I were in his family, I would. :p

When I had four of my teeth pulled out, the dentist didn't give me enough anaesthesia. It was the worst 30 min of my life, the pain was more than any man can take.

my g/f just got her teeth out yesterday. She has dry-socket. Just dont swallow your blood clots.... or you will be in for some serious pain.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dry_socket

And keep your tongue away from the stichets! its tempting but DONT TOUCH THEM WITH YOUR TONGUE... else you may loosen up the clots... and seriously... its PAINFUL... so just dont!

On a side note, I got mine out a year ago and had no pain what-so-ever, and didnt even have to take any pain killers. (have a whole bottle full of vikadin (SP?) too) My gums were infected before when the teeth were half way in, so it was a reliefe to have them out!

I had the top ones taken out awhile back and it didn't hurt at all. I bet the bottom ones would bleed a lot more and you'd probably have more trouble keeping food from going in the hole.

Current information shows that wisdom teeth do not alone cause teeth to become crowded and crooked, but they certainly can exacerbate existing crowding.

Just keep your mouth clean and you'll be fine. I didn't need any Vikadin, just flushed em down the toilet.

am i the only one who was so drugged the entire time I didnt even notice?

I looked forwad to getting my teeth out, because afterwards you get a big bottle of drugs..

It took me half an hour to eat a small bowl of porridge. My face is still numb, and I haven't had any pain (except when I drank some water and some got in my holes) but I just found out that I had managed to bit my lip all to shit and not noticed.

I think this is actually not gonna be so bad at all.

I have two extra wisdom teeth than normal people (9 teeth at the top two sides) so if I ever get them out, it'll be a big job.

They're all impacted afaik.

man don't you know you can get high off those?? they make you feel great...

funny...cuz i went to the dentist for a checkup today and it turns out i have to get 4 wisdom teeth pulled out on jan 2nd...:(

They mostly made me tired.

yea they do that, but if you take enough (2-3 of 750mgs) then you will feel them. if you got any for a wisdom teeth operation, they probably didnt give you strong ones though so youd need to take more to get the same high

... not to promote drug abuse or anything...

Turn on steam and play videogames for the next week....thats what I did when I had mine pulled.

haha nothing like a nice CS fix to make all your pain go away.

actually, contrary to popular belief, it doesn't hurt that bad.
As the medication wears off you feel a slight discomfort.
Kind of like a small withdrawal but not like a neck breaking pain though.

That's what I thought. But then it started burning. I guess I'll just stick with my icepack.

I was fine for a long time, then I went to go spit in the toilet and I started bleeding again :(

To be sure, would a toothe-achey type pain (actually feels more like I pulled a muscle or something) at the back of my mouth, especially when I open it wide or chew on something, indicate that mine were coming through?

I had mine pulled outand it was hell. No good food just soft shit. And after my dentist said the wounds were healed over, I ate some potato chips and I got an infection.

I got my wisdom teeth pulled just 2 weeks ago... I considered making a thread about it but... hey.

Anyways, the pain should be minimal. My surgeon perscribed me Flagyl (an antibiotic), Cilex (another anti biotic) and Feldine-D (an anti-inflamatry). I didn't really have any pain for the past two weeks. Of course... the night after the operation, I couldn't feel my lip ar my lower jaw, and when I attempted to down a flagyl, it went straight into a socket and caused a massive bleed which kept on and on all night. But we managed to stop it.

Initially there was no swelling, but about a day later it came out. I looked like a lopsided chipmunk, as the side which I had opened up had swollen about 3 times as much as the other side.

But hey, just keep on with the ice packs and the antibiotics and it should all be good. Also, I have to feel sorry for those people who had to do the operation under local anesetic... my dude put me under General then applyed the local. When I woke up in recovery I felt like I had been hit in the face with a speeding truck... and then with a sledgehammer a couple of times... and yet there was no pain!

have to make sure you dont forcefully spit or suck on anything, like a popcicle or a straw... any kind of suction in your mouth might cause your blood clots to come out... may be too late seeing you already had a popcicle...

You have to make sure if you are in pain by the second day or so that you go into the doctors to have them check to see if you have dry socket. My g/f went and they said if she had waited a day or so more, it would have been excruciatingly painful.

and make sure you rinse your mouth out with the prescribed mouthwash... I think its Peroxide, but be carefull not to do it too forcefully.

I don't suck popsicles though, I bite them.

Is dry socket good or bad? I didn't get any mouthwash either, I got hydrocodone painkillers and penicillin for infections, I guess.

Dry socket is when the blood clot comes out of the hole in the gums. The blood clot eventually turns into flesh and bone, but if you lose it, then you are in for some serious pain. go to the doctors and tell them you have dry socket and hopefully they will know what to do, go there to have them check if you have pain two days after surgury but dont wait any longer, you may not know you have it at the moment, but you WILL come a day or two.

For my g/f they put a little piece horrible tasting cloth down in the hole and into the bone where the nerve is, its covered in some sort of numbing medicine and makes it feel alot better, but it hurts like hell when they are putting it in, she has to get it changed if its not healing right on by tomorrow. And if it is, they will take it out.

"Infection following the extraction of wisdom teeth is not a common complication. Natural immune mechanisms help to protect the surgical site. Antibiotics are prescribed by some oral surgeons after surgery although there is no documentation in the literature to support the use of antibiotics prophylatically. Some patients will experience localized inflammation and infection in the tooth socket 48 hours after surgery. This has commonly been called a dry socket. It is not dry, however, and the name is derived from the clinical appearance of the socket which is commonly void of a normal blood clot or granulating (healing) tissue. This post operative complication is best treated with a medicated dressing placed in the extraction site. It typically contains local anesthetic ointment that soothes the surgical site. If this is ineffective, it usually means the pain is originating in another tooth (most commonly the tooth in front of the wisdom tooth site), or from the muscles surrounding the surgical region. These muscles are used during opening and closing of the jaw and can be aggravated post operatively by overeating, grinding, and heavy chewing. Treatment of this type of pain requires not only a dressing in the surgical site but also anti-inflammatory medications, muscle relaxants and in some cases post operative physical therapy for the muscles"

Hope this helps.

So... I dont know about anyone else... but I am sitting on the edge of my seat here... So I have to ask...

How's your mouth feeling? :p

It's feeling fine, actually. It hurts in the morning when I wake up, and usually again by the time I go to bed, but one or two painkillers at those times keeps me quiet. My face is a bite puffy, and I can't really open my mouth that wide, but other than that, It's all good.
