 Absolutely Fantastic

Firstly, this game was absolutely incredible. Every moemnt of it was gaming Bliss! Best of all, you were never alone, not even once. Really felt like a mini composition of all the hl games. Had the facility feel of hl1 in some parts, had vehicles like half life 2, and there were so many things to explore. This game kicks ass, I would be playing it with commentary soon. Really felt like Children of Men in some parts due to the landscape similarities and stuff.

Now on to my questions

1. How come Eli knows about gman? And what is this whole thing with the apeture science and the borealis. What is that technology in there?

2. Magnusson. Was he really in half life 1?

3. What does the advisor do when sucking out of a person's skull? Is it feeding or something?

4. Also, "prepare for unforeseen consequences." = HIS DEATH???????

A wish

You know the part where the rocket launches off and we see the super portal close. There should have been many citizens there and it should have been something epic, with some nice soundtrack and then all the citizens cheering in the end. That would have been so memorable

That is about it. Really sad that eli died like that. What an ending..

1. it appears Eli knows a lot about the G-Man, he refers to him as "our mutual friend". It seems to me they contacted themselves during Half-Life 2. In Episode One, Eli is kind of shocked to see Gordon over there with Alyx. So he had to know that GMan plans to take Freeman away after destroying the Citadel

2. Magnusson is a new character, but also worked in Black Mesa. We never met him in the game before.

3. The Advisors suck memories, knowledge with the brain.
Eli knows a lot about the local teleportation and location of the resistance. All plans of how to defeat the Combine. Now, since the Advisor sucked out his brain, they are all aware of the Borealis and what is the tech on it capable of doing

4. I think it was a phrase that the GMan wanted to reming Eli about himself.
He told Alyx to say it, so Eli would remember that GMan is still somewhere, watching them all.

Is there any specific mention of Magnusson working at Black Mesa? I played through Portal before I played through EP2, and the idea that Magnusson may have worked at Aperture stuck with me.. especially in light of the Borealis related plot developments. Anyone want to present evidence either way?

Magnusson is the scientist who gets pissed off when you burn the microwave casserole in the lounge near where you get the HEV suit.

EDIT: And the "Advisor sucking knowledge" thing is still just a theory. The guide is isn't a very reliable source.

Perhaps it sucks the brain and stores it later to be used for memory extraction :D

It would have to crack the entire skull then and remove the brain in one lump. Most of what defines human brains is after all connections between brain cells which can be very easily manipulated, disrupted and destroyed and I bet my ass those alien tongues/penises do all those three.

No. From what Eli said it is clear he knew about him even before the Resonance Cascade. He says something like: "I should have never used that cristal he brought us" and "The first time he whispered those words was before I stepped into the test chamber" referring to *unforeseen consequences*

well ur rite about the ppl cheering aftr the portal is getting flushed away, i thought that was like they were in a cemetry or something, speaking of cemetries, WAT HAPPEND TO FATHER GREGORY, i like tht man, he talks and laughs funny

Funny, its got marc laidlaws name in the credits. If you've got nothing to suggest that they don't suck out memories, then they proboaly do.

"Sucking memories" thing is a reference to Starship Troopers and most likely not relevant to HL universe. Also Marc Laidlaw's name is on that page because when the original version came out Marc told the guy that it's "pretty damn accurate".

Yes there is a reference, Magnusson says to you after the strider bomb training that he will "forgive you for what happened at black mesa, a certain microwave casserole you ruined"

Except that Prima's guides are known to have made errors in the past. And does it explicitly state that Laidlaw wrote for the guide? Because it's possible that he merely provided "guidance" or "assistance" with writing it
.
I'm not trying to disprove the theory, I just won't completely accept it until I hear it from a 100% official source.

Eli had contact with Gman during HL1-HL2; Eli knows all about Gman and how he controls Gordon when you first see him in Kleiner's lab.

One question about the Prima guides: are they done before the game is released?
Some bits I noticed in the Episode One guide, weren't in the final game.

The commentary has this to say about the origins of Magnusson:

[Brian Jacobsen] Dr. Magnusson was the result of a decision to bring forward another signature character from the original Half-Life, along the lines of Dr. Kleiner and Barney. As we developed the character, we kept referring back to this line from Half-Life to keep us on track: "Gordon doesn't need to hear all this, he is a highly trained professional, we've assured the administrator that nothing will go wrong". Though we liked the character who came into focus, we found that this voice was sounding like too much of a caricature for our increasingly grim and realistic world. We like to hire actors with the natural voices that we want for our characters, as opposed to hiring actors to create voice characterizations. In John Aylward, we found someone who could deliver the brusque arrogance of the original lines, and also take the character forward into some of the richer and subtler opportunities we foresee for him.

The prima guide is a source. It suggests that the advisors do. There is no source suggesting they don't. So it is logical to assume they do. Plus it makes it more intersting - the advisors know stuff now.
