Miyamoto Spills the Beans
Gaming legend Shigeru Miyamoto was recently interviewed by Famitsu, Japan's premier gaming magazine, and the guru revealed some rather juicy details about what's in the works at Nintendo. First, Mario 128 is still being developed for the GameCube along with a new Pokemon title by some "strong allies." Also, the newly-announced Mario Baseball is being worked on with the help of Namco. He also confirmed that Mother 3 (Earthbound 2) for the GBA is planned for release pretty soon.

Now, for the bigger news. Miyamoto said Nintendo is getting aggresive with online play. The company sees online gaming becoming a big deal within 3-4 years and Nintendo will adapt. One way it'll do that by taking the Nintendo DS online sooner than we think. For instance, Square Enix and Nintendo are working together on an online title.

Sweet. I'm going to get a DS real soon so I'll be looking forward to this.

Mario 128 :afro:

I WANT THE GAMECUBE EQUIVALENT OF DONKEY KONG 64!

Oh ya I play it with my friends all the time during our spares in high school when we are bored.

Yes. I knew being a blatant Nintendo fanboy would pay off someday!

i loved Mario 64, but sunshine... not so much.
i loved those mini levels that took place in the voids though, those were great! :D

You obviously haven't played Banjo-Kazooie. Donkey Kong was a mere shadow of its greatness.

do you have a wire-less router? do you have access to a hotspot (school, library, cafe, etc)? if you answered yes to either, you shouldent have a problem

edit: the ads

After this long they finally decide to go online?

gg Nintendo....

ds=awesomeness.

The only problem is that I can only pictochat to myself. No one else that I know is going to get one. :|

Hell yea. Mario 64 is one of my favorite games ever. I still have fun with it. Sunshine was a disappointment because it was all based around that water pack and that goop stuff. I didn't like that.

bah humbug - to miss out on either means you're missing some of the greatest video games ever made :)

All this talk of the DS is making me jealous (I just spunked all my cash on a shiny new gfx card and won't be able to afford one for months and months :/)

Looks like Shigeru 'Overrated' Miyamoto has really run out of ideas, I mean, a baseball game! Come on, it's just a game of a crappy sport, what is so innovative about that? Miyamoto is so incredibly overrated it's not even funny.

Wow, Miyamoto is SO ignorant. Online gaming will become big in 3-4 years? It was big 6 years ago, it is MASSIVE now.

No - it still isn't big.

Compare how many ppl play online games to how many just play consoles in the living room. Online gaming is TINY in comparsion (it's easy to forget that when living in the insular world of pc gaming)

Oh shutup :/ No single games designer has done more for the industry - it doesn't take a Nintendo fan to realise that. You obviously havne't a clue what you're talking about.

Oh joy, yet another Mario game...

Someone remind me why this guy is so respected? He's hardly had an original thought for years, I mean ffs Mario AGAIN!? crying out loud.

They might aswell just stop calling it Nintendo and call it the Mariostation or Mariocube or some such nonsense

F*CK THAT!!
I WANT THE GAMECUBE EQUIVELANT OF PERFECT DARK!!!

Just as kickass, if not more so, than Half-Life. Period. :borg:

EDIT: Miyamoto is kickass. If it weren't for him, the guys at Sony wouldn't have any ideas and you'd still be playing Crash Bandicoot. Not even THAT, you might be playing something that's getting close to 3-D.
Came up with the first fully 3-D game. Ever.

Shock horror but there were many many MANY games being made, 2D and 3D before Sony got involved.

Long time ago, before most of this forum userbase was born I wager :p

Thats when men were men, girls didn't play computers and games had gameplay

;)

It doesn't sound like you've played a Nintendo console for a while there chief ;)

Look at how many games Miyamoto has been involved in (a ridiculous amount) That's why he's so respected - he's done more than any other designer (by a long way) It doesn't matter if he never touches a game again - his opinion will always be listened to and valued.

Not offence intended - but as someone whose obviously not a Nintendo (and console?) fan, it's not surprising you haven't really got a clue ;) (which is the case with many ppl on the boards)

3-D, yes, but with 3-D GRAPHICS, perhaps not...

Nintendo just plays catchup all the time, there's no originality involved and it simply reuses old idea's and pumps out the same old same old and prays on those who don't realise they could have so much more if they only stood up for it.. I don't doubt that the Nintendo platform isn't powerful, I know its capable of some very cool things, its just a waste its being used for the stuff thats being churned out right now.

Granted consoles are made for that type of mindset, fast and shoot or jump often. But things could be pushed much further, look at Zelda, there's far more scope there than appears to be getting used.

All I'm saying is its not being pushed as far as it could, they've grown complacent while others are charging ahead at full speed.

Nice theory, except the consoles couldn't do _real_ 3D until long after the computers had been capable of it.. And the early ones ended up being rail shooters (starfox i think it was called was one of em) the FMV stuff came even later, but thankfully died out for the most part, that idea just wasn't as successful as people had hoped, thank god it didn't start up again when DVD's came along hehe. Though I admit those FMV starwars games were pretty cool looking and a bit of fun to play, even if they were completely linear.

Where are these other companies that are blazing forward at full speed?? :)

And granted - there is less originality in their games these days, but that's the case with all game developers. Nintedno still show more a spark of creativitiy and originality than any other I can think of (the DS alone is poof of this. Regardless of ppls opinions on the machine/compnay - it's going to offer games with gameplay that have never been experienced before. Who else can boast that in this day of rehash after rehash)

Do you actually know what's 'being churned out' at the moment. It's certainly no worse than what the pc is receiving (and has been receiving for years)

Original ideas and games are great - but are becoming increasingly rare. HL2 being a good example. It does nothing new - but it does do it better :) (which is the important thing)

At the end of the day, fun games that involve and entertain you are what's important - and even in this relatively slow year from Nintendo, they've still achieved that for me and my friends more than any other company (and have done since the nes)

can you stop to be so anoying

everytime someone post some news about consoles you just post

"not interesed PC>consoles"

is you are not interesed why you enter to the thread?

and if you enter to the thread and are not interesed why not just leave of the thread and not try to change peoples mind

back on topic:

I am not a big fan of Nintendo but is nice to see that will be a mario 128, mario 64 was one of the best games I played, but I dont hav a gamecube

and one thing I want to say is that in the videogames industry Nintendo is a big name

It's coming out on the Xbox 2 - apparently.

(I really hope it's as good as the first - but with sweet gfx and physics. That would be the greatest fps ever, imo :))
