Kinda of weird. But heres why I cant wait for HL2!

Not even in the game yet. Just configuring my options, my controls, my graphics settings. I cant wait to play around and explore all the menus, and changes I can make. I love doing stuff like that. How bout you guys? :bounce:

Same here =)

I'll also first try the hazard course (if there is any) with the lowest settings, then the highest :)
I'm gonna explore the possibilities until I get bored of them. Then there is all that "PLAYING" part :E

noobs...get a seperate thing for your movment. Get one of those small keyboard made for FPS's that have like 8 keys on them and a speed controll. noobs. They are made specificly for First person shooters.

They have good advantages...i like mine because it lets me walk in dod with the speed controll.

Yeah, my butter fingers sure do slip around the keyboard all the time when I play...sometimes I mistake the return key for moving forward. Silly me

I use the arrow keys so much better, the AWSD method annoys me. I know its better for surrounding commands but just get a 5 button mouse.

I've used arrow keys pretty much always...up until a few days ago. I've found the AWSD method to be a lot more comfortable..my left hand isn't like four inches from my right hand...AWSD gives me a lot more space...and feels less hectic than the arrow keys.

I'll have to try that method. I've been using the arrows since I first installed HL. But then again all my other keys are bound to keys surrounding those arrow keys, "Shift, Enter, ctrl, /, ., ', delete, insert, NUMPAD INS, Del., End, PageDown, etc."

I used to use the arrow keys ( enter, shift ctrl etc) But, after doing a fresh re-install of HL, i converted to the lovely WASD.

been playing with them keys since the days of Marathon on my old Mac. To late to change now, muscle memory now automatically press the right buttons now. right control for duck, 0 on number pad for reload, scroll wheel change weapon up/down, scroll button jump, enter for action

sorted, too late to change now. getting too old

I don't know how it would fit in with the context of City 17, though. At least in the original, it was understandable with the Black Mesa environment and it being your first day, etc.

Remember the hologram lady guiding you on the Hazard Course? Imagine how good it would look with the new graphics technology :) ... not that a hologram guide would fit in the City 17 environment.
Maybe alyx will be the guide this time but then the hazard course should of course be part of the story and not a single tutorial map.

Where do you think gordon will get his Hazard Suit this time ? Maybe at Dr. Kleiners lab. Of course he could have kept it since HL1 ... but that would be boring

I'm looking forward to HL2 so I can see Steelhed eat his own shit when it comes out on the 30th.

If he kept his hazzard suit since HL1, than he must smell like shit. lol He does look kinda scruffy in the new renders...

I'd like to see a recreation of the Hazard Course that was in HL1.

You start it up and it fades to black. "Some years ago..."

"Welcome to the Black Mesa Hazard Course"... All in Source goodness.

My theory is that the game starts with gordon waking up in a facility in city 17 with alyx and kleiner. He has memory loss and you then spend the game being drip fed the info. This would allow for any training and the aquirement of the HEV

I thought I remember reading that Half-Life 2 picks up right where the original left off...so there's probably not a whole lot of possibility for Gordon to lose his HEV suit.

G-Man: "Now, why don't you take that thing off and slip into something more comfortable?"

It does spitcodfry, but it is actually some years in the future. Something happens to Gordon at the end of HL1, then you wake up as HL2. That's done so you have the feeling that you actually never stopped being Gordon.

LOL :cheese: .. the G-man hitting on Gordon ... wouldnt that be an ugly sight

man i can't wait to look at the cover, the Back cover of the cd case, the manual reading it all, the install background while it loads, the intro logos, the MENU's, the TUTORIAL spend all i can on that cause they are always cool! then the loading screen.......BUT THE MOST EVER will be to be standing on the first part of level 1 ready to move... and realising this aint a dream..the date OCT 3rd.. the YR. 3004, lol soz i mean 2004..soz 2003! and well jus about to move on level 1 and it crashes! saying PATCH needed, release "JAN 30th 2004."

i dont think there will be movies ... it will all be ingame with you at the controls

soz why would there be an intro!!??? you know there wouldn't be.

HL2 has NO CUTSCENES remember gabe himself said that. so there can't be an intro. Yea there can like HL. but gabe did say that hl2 will start off not like we expect. i mean it will start off going fast paced. rather then slow story....then you will eventually find out how hl and hl2 came together... like what happened and how it changed. and how you got from A-B ((if that makes sense))

f course he could have kept it since HL1 ... but that would be boring
remember at the end of half life, the g-man says, 'i have taken the liberty of removing your weapons, as for the hev sssuit, i think youve earned it.'

OOOOOO U ARE RIGHT MAN!

Well i wouldn't think you start with weapons. dunno why. wierd, but i really did think you start with nothin and then get the crowbar use that for a level, and so on. anyone else think the same? that is what i think is how the weaponary will start out.

If they put in movies they will REALLY destroy what made HL1 so special. That you were in it from the very start. No movie scenes, no cut scenes.

How about you start in the tram (looking like it did at the end of hl1) and walk through the portal, then it'll load and you can really appreciate the beauty.

I'll think they'll do that as well, an homage to how the first one progressed in terms of weapons.

wow, you are all geeks. and the sad part is i feel exactly the same as you guys :(

except one thing. the best thing is always readme.txt.
cause it's prolly written by gabe, that way, i can cum easier.
switching from pics to the readme.txt. i will begin my game relaxed.

anyway, if its not written by gabe, dont say anything, dont spoil it for me.

thanks

Thinking of it, I hope they dont stoop to the "memory lapes" trick. It's so old, and I read in an interview that they REALLY wanted to break the mould on how characters are developed and shown to the gamer. In HL1 you didn't have any memory lapses as such.

We don't need them in HL2 either.

I agree. They would detract from the experience. I'm pretty sure Gabe and Co are using the same philosophy that Peter Jackson applies for the Lord of the Rings trilogy. If you are anybody, you've seen/played the first one, so there's really no need for explanation as to past events.

In any good sequel. The team designs the game to be accesible to all players. Veterans to the series, and people who never played HL1. I trust Valve will do a good job in catching up newer players, but still make us vets feel special with all the inside grammar, and jokes and such. It should be interesting to see how the approach this. But I do remember Gabe saying the game will start action packed. Like someone above said...

geek me??? naaa no way. but it is HL2 man and i have waited (as well as all) for the game so i do think we will all start off VERY SLOW with it all to jus relax saying "we have the game now on our pc's. we can relax and enjoy EVERY LITTLE thing on this cd."

It won't be a memory lapse...

You've got to imagine that you are Gordon Freeman. At the end of HL1 you decide to stay with the G-Man and all goes black. For Gordon at least, it stays black until you start a new game in HL2. All of a sudden everything's all nice and fancy and in a higher resolution with DX9 features everywhere but you have no idea how you got there and then the story begins. It won't be like he's forgotten, it'll be like he's been in a coma.

Interesting. wait? What year did the original take place in and what about part 2? Does anyone know down to the exact date?

^

HL2 takes place 15 years after HL1. I think the G-Man was planning things with Gordon until 15 years passed.
