The Company is concluding an internal human resources inquiry into breaches of contract and insubordination by two senior employees at Infinity Ward," Activision states in a filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission. "This matter is expected to involve the departure of key personnel and litigation. At present, the Company does not expect this matter to have a material impact on the Company."

Apparently Activision is practicing McCarthyism.

Wut. I found this in one of the comment sections:

Jason West did lose his job. It was part of the contract. While traveling the plains of Marwolaetha, Jason saw an old lady, thin and almost disfigured. "I'm in desperate need of food, stranger. Please, can you help me?" A man of good heart, he gave his last roll of bread to the famished lady.

"I can walk with you to the next town if you wish. I couldn't bear to leave you alone."
"Nonsense, you seem to be on a journey, I would never delay a greater good."

Her voice, fragile though it may have been, had a determined tone to it. Jason was sure he would not be able to change her mind.

With an understanding look, he rose from his knees, and bid the woman goodbye.

The road to the Ambythia, the closest town, was supposed to have been only a couple hours' trek, but when nighttime arrived, Jason felt he had made no progress at all.

His stomach grumbling, he sat down and opened his bag, only to be reminded of the earlier encounter. The one where the last of his nourishment was given away to a less fortunate soul. With a grim smile on his face, he stood once again, and continued his arduous journey to Ambythia.

The sun rose. The sun fell. The moon watched the slow progress to nowhere. As the third day post-assemblage arrived. Jason could take no more.

He fell to his knees and hands, grabbing at the sand beneath him. He looked up and in a confused stupor bellowed to the Gods. Why had they forsaken him? Why had they sent him on this journey with no destination? Why had Ambythia disappeared? Why?

As his energy funds depleted, he fell forwards onto his face. But what awaited his jowl was not the harsh, dry texture of sand, but the cool comforting splash of water.

A mirage. But not one that Jason was about to ignore.

As a hound would lap on a river, so did Jason tongue the freshness of this sea of comfort. Not normally, as it would to a fatigued runner, did the water allay his discomfort. There was no gradual feeling of having one's tongue rejuvenate. No glutinous substance forming in the mouth. The recovery was immediate.

Whatever dream world Jason had hallucinated himself into, the water had supernatural powers. His hunger gone, his power repossessed. Jason was, for better or worse, back to his old self.

Erecting his figure once again, Jason resumed his march. But no sooner had his foot left the ground, and a mysterious sound got our hero's attention.

Carefully turning around, Jason spotted the culprit. A short, stocky, creature. With amber as eyes, and spikes for hair. It smiled devilishly at Jason while giving off a false sense of security.

"Refreshing, isn't it?"

Jason stood motionless, attempting to make a judgment.

trust?
Maybe...
NO!
Well...
why not?
BECAUSE!!
Oh, stop it.
YOU TOO?!
you know the rules
He's right.
...

"I can give you more, you know..."
Jason looked at the ground again, realizing it was completely dry. If there was any moisture there, Holmes would have been deceived.
"I don't need it."

He turned to Ambythia, but quickly stopped.
His heart slowed, his breathing halted. Jason could feel his muscles contracting against his will.

"All I need is for you to say yes."
Jason regained control of his body. He knew there was no way out. The only way to carry out the will of the Gods was to accept this creature's offer.

In a defeated stance, and a heavy sigh...

"yes"

The creature widened his ever present smile, and handed Jason a canteen.
"Its flow never ends. Anytime you require stamina. It will be ready for you."

"However, you may feel less... in command of your self. A normal side effect, of course"
Still, that horrible grin.

Jason took the object and walked away. When he looked back, nothing in sight.
Only the sound of a gloomy voice.

"Never share it with anyone."

The days passed, and Jason continually got closer to Ambythia. This he knew, because a voice in his head told him so. With no food, the canteen was used many times a day. And with every splash, Jason felt better.

More brave.
More confident.
More carefree.
More careless.

His mind had deteriorated to that of a senile child. Taking things at face value, while questioning his old self whenever it could muster the strength to be heard by the others.

Even in a condition such as his, it would not take a genius to figure he would never get to his destination. Jason knew this, but also knew as long as he kept walking in the general direction, the Gods could not smite him.

More days passed. And then something happened that Jason was not ready for.
The lady appeared once again.

Suffering in the same position, begging for food anew. Jason knew he could not help her this time. His mind never once questioned the logic of her being there.

Holding the canteen in one hand, Jason contemplated what to do.

What is the right thing to do?
what is there to ponder?
THE VOICE SAID NO
the voice isn't here
THE GODS WILL SMITE ME TWICE OVER
they're not here either
She will die

Knowing it would be his undoing, Jason shared his canteen with the old lady, who thanked him with a deep tone of sincerity.

The deed was done, and Jason had failed his Gods once again.

All the strength that had been given to him over the past long days, were given to the lady. And all that was left was a husk.

Jason, like many before him, had fallen to the forces of evil. And once again, the Lady got a meager bit stronger.

"One step closer," said the Lady with a devilish grin.

"One step closer.

If the SEC was notified, I am guessing those two "senior employees" did something with stocks and / or options that is possibly illegal. Weird story.

This is not the last we have heard from this story. What a strange event and what timing with that other war game looming....

I'm thinking these guys were trying to pull a 2015/Infinity Ward thing all over again and start their own studio. Just got caught this time. I wonder how many original IW devs might follow these two out the door? I know the founder of Infinity Ward left after Modern Warfare, and these two were senior guys dating back to Allied Assault at 2015. Either way, I guess it was only a time before Activision ran this thing into the ground.

Are you a time traveler from the future?

If thats the case, I'll support the devs who decide to leave. I wonder what the breaches of contract were though, because that could be huge.

Here is Kotaku's main article on this, which will be updated whenever they get more info.

Yes.

Who knows, maybe we'll be seeing a new studio sometime soon and a new series to boot. I predict Call of Honor to be revealed next year, or maybe SHOOT™ or WARLOL™ if they end up at Codemasters. Not that I really a give a shit anyway - I'm completely burnt out on CoD these days. Whatever happens to the series it's pretty much all downhill from here I think.

Or maybe, I dunno, Jason West & Co. did something they shouldn't have.

Alot of ppl are saying it has sumit to do with IW not developing MW3. Maybe Acti got annoyed about that.

Also, who was the founder who left after MW1?

I don't see how Activision could get annoyed, don't they basically decide who works on a game or not?

Am I the only one who thinks being an Activision boss is cool ? I mean, your organisation gets compared to the gaming equivalent to an evil corporation found in movies. I mean I would do things to piss off gamers for the sake of it, while ripping off their money. And will sit and laugh maniacally.

Also:

The future of Infinity Ward might be determined in the next few hours.

I'm told by a source close to the studio that Activision CEO Bobby Kotick will address the development leads at Infinity Ward in a meeting in just a few minutes -- noon, to be exact.

It's unclear what the meeting will be about, but it is likely related to the apparent departure of Infinity Ward studio heads Vince Zampella and Jason West, as discovered earlier today.

After Kotick and company's meeting with the leads at Infinity Ward, there will be a second meeting addressing the studio as a whole. The details of that meeting are also unclear.

As soon as I have more details, I'll pass them on.

Thats exactly what Kotick does. And a lot of people want him dead for it.

Now they just need to bribe some senators/congressman and have some highly trained assassins, and have some shady deals in third world countries. The circle shall be complete.
To be fair though, this could have nothing to do with intellectual properties or whatever and could be disciplinary. It could be they decided to skim off the side. We don't know what contractual terms IW is binded to with Activision. So this could be not at all gaming related but something else entirely.

I am sure Activison's lawyers have already filed notices against those two to keep their mouths shut. In my theory, this could be royalty related/ pay negotiations. Maybe the two IW heads wanted a bigger chunk of the MW cash flood. And probably they did something stupid related to that too.

For people out there, any regrets for buying MW2 and supporting Activision ?

My mom got me MW2 as a gift. I'm sad that Activision got money for it though.

It's Guitar Hero all over again.

A Treyarch game later this year, and a new 'action-adventure' Call of Duty for 2011 from a completely new developer - Sledgehammer Studios. Infinity Ward still has the rights to make Modern Warfare games, but:

Another source with knowledge of the situation tells Gamasutra that although Infinity Ward is only about 75 developers strong, Activision brass demanded layoffs at the studio anticipating a refusal -- which they received, potentially opening the door for Activision to use that refusal as a way to launch a breach suit that would help it escape its contract.

http://www.gamasutra.com/view/news/27482/Analysis_Infinity_Wards_DoubleEdged_Sword.php

That Gamasutra article sums things up nicely.

no seriously to hell whit activision

this remind me how they ditched brutal legend and when ea picked up and give them ads suddenly activision wanted it again

I will try to not buy another activision game again, which is easy since they ditched the posibilty of another vigilante8 or battlezone

WOAH! What are they going to do with IW especially if this was "planned" to get them out of contract for MW3?

Get your tin foil hats ready guys!

According to my understanding, there could be a COD 8, which is not entirely FPS, mixed with action adventure elements. Also Activision maybe thinking about a pay to play package. Which IW may have argued about. Also IW it seems tried to get a different publisher for it's game.

Anyway, at this point Activision is trying too hard to be evil. And to think I mocked EA for spewing out garbage every year.

I know people will get angry at me for this, but I say good riddance to IW. I hope they don't get to make any COD bullshit iterations. Also I wish Activision majorly F's up COD8. Good riddance to bad rubbish.

I am agreeing with this.

Also, anyone know where Grant Collier works now?

Karma works in wondrous ways. Let's hope that it takes one more step and hits Bobby Kotick with a stroke.
I'd give up my pinky finger to see that chubby little **** incapacitated in some way.

After reading that article, I can only say this.

**** you Kotick and your partners at the top of Activision.

I think it's disgraceful the way they seem to treat (some of) their developers, using'em when they're generating huge profits then when the profits start to decline, they decide to start firing people etc.. There seems to be no form of 'loyalty' to the developers in my eyes.. But as stated in the article, gaming is a business sadly, and with high success comes higher stakes.

I just hope something good comes out of all this in the end, perhaps the people getting laid off forming better independent studios and not making deals to have Activision as their publishers again.

So "Call of Duty" is now Activision's awnser to Ubisoft's "Tom Clancy's"?

Well, seeing as I just stole that pic from another forum you definitely deserve some credit for that effort.

Hell ****ing yes. I was wondering if/when this announcement would surface.

Everyone should be having a big party. I want them to sue kotick's balls off.

lol charlim

"Activision is being sued by Infinity Ward for unpaid royalties!"

Looks like Activision couldn't...

-puts on glasses-

ward off Infinity Ward.

YEAAAAAAAAH!

Momma always said, "Don't laugh at other people's misfortune.", but i just can't resist.

HA HA HA HA!
