The sequence of the last chromosome in the human genome has been published, marking the completion of the Human Genome Project.

Chromosome one is the largest of the human chromosomes; it contains about 8% of our genome.

This chromosome is involved in over 350 diseases, including some cancers, Parkinson's and Alzheimer's.

About damn time. Now hopefully manipulation of the Genome can progress further and we might be able to develop cures for those 350 diseases(Aswell as other enchancements and changes I'm sure wouldn't go astray.)

So after the obvious cures and fixes of genetic disorders what enchancement would you like to add into the next(Or whenever this is feasibles) generation?

Ugh don't talk to me about genetics, got an exam on that shizzle in about 12 hours :(

Chromosome 24 will now be invented. With this, 'good' people will become Godlike and 'bad' people will become Evil

Evil Godlike? or just evil?

My own personal one is communal telepathy. Think the Edenists from the Nights Dawn Trilogy.

Evil Devillike

But this is good for science though

I don't really like the idea of modifying some dude's genetics to enhance him (unless it is related to health issues)...

same id rather them working on curing diseases then working on a super human

Aye but I did say this should only happen after we sort out the problums first.

But come on there must be something you'd like to give to the future generations.

Next step (after genetic engineering): population control. :|

Can we fix the stupid people now?
(I.E. chavs, wiggers, US president, people who voted for him, etc.)

I'd like to see that extra chromosome in the Doom movie make sense beyond the supposed "superhumans" actually just having Down's syndrome.

If by "fix", you mean "re-eduacate", then sure, why not... *Fires up electroshock equipment*

Unpossible.
If no stupid people are left, the standards for stupidity and intelligence will be drastically altered.
The new super intelligent will mock the average and the average will be the new stupid.
Immunities to mind altering substances are unpossible, and usage will rise dramatically thanks to the peace of mind a new era of medicine will bring.
Stupid action will increase as the merely average class finds solace in traditional self-destructive behavior. People will continue to die, get hurt, sick, be angry, horrible, and out of their mind batshit insane.

There is no cure for this thing stupidity which everyone, even they whom behold it, fear.
And in my opinion, it is for the best.

Your too late. It has already started.

Yes, but it'd just be nicer if the stupid people weren't quite so stupid.

The problem lies in this broad generalization of stupid people.

What makes a person stupid?

The guy that cuts me off when I'm going to work; is he stupid?
Or do I just hate tha I was cut off?

Children that do not pay enough attention at school; stupid?
Or do they just not have a reason to care?

People that cannot spell, stupid certainly, at spelling, but perhaps they are smarter than you in vast other areas?

I think,

the only cure for stupidity, is

I think that modifications should be restricted to curing diseases, and letting people know the probability of contracting a disease, and nothing more.

Stepping into genetic enhancing and changing human traits is beyond the scope of human ethics. I think it's an idea that needs to be left in Fort Knox, and never touched again.

Doesn't the idea of mankind creationg his own evolution sound kind of scary to anybody else but me? I think i'd rather let nature handle it... it seems to do a better job than we ever could at anything.

Keep that in mind the next time you use painkillers for that headache, or deluge yourself with energy drinks, or go through with HRT.

WTF? How is that changing our evolution? I'm talking about adding things like wings, or scales or some other far out shit.

So what are you talking about?

Do you know why there is male pattern baldness? The Bible.
Sound crazy?

The Bible states, as I gather from that dinosaur video, "it is a shame for a man to grow his hair, glorious for a woman to grow hers".

So for thousands of years it has been a pretty solid trend for men to cut their hair.
You might think this is a pretty pointless statement.
Evolution as a force, or fact of life, thinks otherwise. It is my own personal theory that evolution has decided men do not want their hair, so it falls out by nature of being a man. Some men do not experience this. Most do. There are always variables and exclusions and exceptions to every rule. That's genetics for you.

So anyway, given enough time and practice, a set group of people can determine the evolution of his ancestors by simple acts such as cutting hair, relieving their immune system of duty, replacing vital body minerals or functions with artificial sources.
It may be harmful, it may not be. It may be permanent, it may not be.

Cut off your leg hairs. Do they grow back? yes, and without a moments notice. Why? Because there is a preset plan for your leg hairs to be a certain length. Now if you start a trend, shaving your legs you secksy person, and this trend is continued through a millennia, I believe evolution will take this into account.

To the point: Modern society is inundated with drugs and artificial recovery. It is my belief that if we are to continue on this trend, and if the trendy are the majority suppliers of the worlds genetic material, our self-repairing functions will cease, and we shall become dependant on this plentiful source of body dope.

We are already altering and engineering ourselves. Most people do not realize it.

Wow, ****ing perfect.

You guys respond to the post right under mine, yet that post basically says the same thing as mine.

Yeah, I noticed your post after I made mine. I had only looked at the first page.

Im all for super humens. This, nano tech and many more things to come all for it. Id be the 1st person to take the pill, as long as its fool proff :P A world like DBZ that would surely be great. We need a change if for the worse of the better, we need it.

Super Humans, with the supernatural ability to screw up our earth at an even more rapid pace!

Your post was kind of an end-all statement. I had no response to it. I agree with you, though.

How come you didn't agree with me? I said the same thing. I agree it's good for curing diseases and stuff, but not for transforming humanity drastically in a way nature didn't intend.

If we made humans that breathed in greenhouse gases and expelled oxeygen...

WE SCHOULD MAIK MILLEONS AND BEELIONS! *Spits everywhere*

I think that curing diseases and shit should be first priority. As far as human modifications... only cosmetic stuff like eye color, hair color, etc...

That is so ****ing ridiculous isn't it? Who is selling it? How can property on the moon be sold when it doesn't belong to the seller?

I'll sell you some property on Antartica. Contrary to popular belief, I own it.

Yeah, I've got a nice little vacation spot on Uranus if anyone is interested. $50

I don't know man, I'd prefere if humanity took over, I don't consider what nature has done to be all that perfect and I personally see no reason why we simply can't take over from where nature has taken us to.
We'll **** up, that much I'll admit but it's better we try our best then to waste the knowledge we have acquired. Just my 2cents

I'm glad I won't have to be alive in the time period where our governments have controlled our genes, mutating us to their desires. I don't want to be a kid who gets born 2000 years from now and gazes out at his surroundings through his 16 eyes, feeling around with his 4 arms and three legs... fluttering around like some kind of freak on wings so far removed from the humanity of his ancestors like some kind of grossly inbred being.

Since humans don't really evolve anymore, perhaps genetic engineering is the next step. Im for it, I forget how it's immoral in the first place, something simular to the reasons against abortion which im also okay with.

Ethics always get in the way, silly ethics I mean. Obviously you can't go around killing people. D:
