Least Religious Countries & Statistics

No one is forcing you to be here.
Pfft. Yeah, because everyone in every country is, financially, mentally, emotionally and physically able to leave. No problem!

That in this age the idea of 'you are with our country or you are against us' could exist...that anyone could willfully propagate such an exclusionary, useless, counter-productive, and indeed unscientific pile of crap...it boggles the mind. When concepts like this seem to dribble into public discourse I can't help thinking that Iain M. Banks' Culture have got it right - do away with nationality, and any symbols thereof.

No it makes perfect sense. Most of the US is religious. I could give the "if you don't like how things are, then change it" response. But is he going to convert the majority to atheism? No. He could tolerate it, just like I do as a Mormon among Christians.

If he really has that much of a distaste, then leave. Is it for my benefit? No, I'm not going to see a difference or improvement. Would he see it in his life? Yah, most likely.

I see it as whining and not doing anything about it. If you don't like something, then change it.

Really, in no means am I saying 'you are with our country or you are against us' as you stated. I would say the same thing to anyone else complaining but not doing anything about it. He could be planning, but if he was, he most likely would have stated it.

I say the same thing to Christians here in Utah, "I don't like Utah because it's too squeaky clean", "well go move somewhere else"

Yaaaay! We're number 1! We're number 1! We're number 1!

Although, living in Sweden's Jerusalem for ten years might have given me a different view. Cause it certaintly didn't seem like 85% atheist there :p

Bullshit!

You weren't just casually asking why he stays if he hates it so much - you were, to anyone with eyes, adopting a full with-us-or-against-us position. That's what "If you don't like your country, then leave" means - it belongs to a fairly nasty ideology, where a nation cannot tolerate dissenters, where to live somewhere and not to love what is referred to as 'The Nation' but invariably refers to the present government and sociopolitical climate ("the people, the laws and government") is hypocritical. America's very founding is in dissent, and it's surely a mark of a great democracy that disagreement is considered totally normal. "If you don't like your country, then leave" does two things: it assumes that a citizen must love his country to live there, and it usually pretends that 'government' means 'country'.

That you follow this up immediately with a nationalistic (and cliched) declaration of patriotism only reinforces the point.

Whether you intended to or not, this is the message you gave - because the platitudes and attitudes you're using/adopting are ideologically charged, and the creed they are part of is not a nice one.

Casual my arse. I don't casually recommend that my friend moves to Europe and then immediately bellow "I LOVE MY COUNTRY AND I AM HONOURED TO BE HERE!"

Except maybe they don't want to, because their family are in Utah, or even they can't leave because of financial factors. You sort of ignored that part.

Heres the difference - that was in the past, this is the present.p
You might also note that the persecution of Mormons was, in part, religiously motivated. :O
