The demo is now downloadable and playable on all Steam accounts without any obligation to pre-purchase. The demo will be available till 18th November when Left 4 Dead is officially released. Hopefully this launch will be a pain free experience since the first demo release and updates. Please post your experiences and thoughts on the demo here, or vote in our poll on the front page.[br]http://store.steampowered.com/app/530/

I must now persuade all my friends to play while I tell them I'm busy.

It won't start downloading for some reason. Anyone else had this?

When I tried downloading it first, there was an error with the Valve server. I guessed it was because everyone was trying to download it

Awesome, i never expected a public demo. I was kinda miffed when i thought it would be available only to people who pre-purchased it.

Oh God! 23kbps and slowing down D:
Everybody get off da internets so I can download this thing before I go crazy! NAU!!1

65-80kb/s =P

Also, I don't understand this whole temporary release of the demo thing. If the demo's done... why's there a time restriction on it? It's not a problem, since I'm pretty much just waiting to see how it runs on my machine and will probably buy it instantly if it checks out. I'm just a bit confused by how they're rolling this out.

Valve probably wants people to try it out for abit yo see how everyone likes it. And if the person likes the demo, then they'd buy it. But as for the limit, I have no idea. Valve possibly doesn't want everyone to play the demo over and over and make them go but the game

I dunno, I'm trying to find out right now. All I know is that it's the one that came with my computer that I got a year ago. But during the weekends I'm at my dad's house and my computer there has the latest card

is there anywhere else i can download the demo from, the steam downloader is going to take forever....If i download one of the torrents that were put up before the public release will it work legit now that the demo is public?

FPS issues seem common and that's weird because the other Source games work fine. However one or more of these changes will fix most cases, in order of effectiveness:

- Change virtual memory usage from High to Medium
- Turn off AA
- Turn off V-Sync
- Bring shader quality from Very High quality to High

Great. So now it will be even harder to find a server.

Wow, intense. I'd suggest advanced until you sharpen your reflexes and get used to the game a bit.

Expert is a one way ticket to death. If you haven't played it yet, try it, but with teammates that you've played with before. You really have to get in a good groove.

Love the game, sometimes it got a bit laggy for me fps wise when a ton of zombies came by, otherwise a very fast loading smooth running experience which I did not expect on a p4 3.5ghz, 2gb Ram, GF 7600gs.

As far as performance goes, exceeded expectations tremendously.

600-750KBps :farmer:

Virgin Media ftw!

I'll be in the HL2.net chatroom (and the NS Off-Topic one for that matter) to find some decent people to take my first steps (on PC) with.

I guessing it has to do with server availablity, there are only so many willing servers out there and given how well this game is doing they might need them all to focus on the full game.

Damn, this was pretty fun actually. Ran great too.

By far the best looking source game yet. A little disappointed with the animations, but the rest of the game is TOP NOTCH. I can't wait to play the full game.

I did notice that the zombies climb on air when the players are standing above a hole in the ground, which kind of breaks the immersion, but that is quickly re-applied when a smoker attacks. The smokers have to be the most annoyingly fun to kill enemy i have every faced in any game. props to valve for making a rewarding kill... I love the smoke cloud it gives off when it dies. You just feel like "yeah! Motha****a, shot yo ass up so bad you just a cloud 'uh' smoke!"

My teams really didn't get attacked by tanks too much, and when we did we died fast because I always had one noob with me, but the director notices the noobyness sometimes and eases up on us for that guys sake, and it's not quite so noticeable.

You lucky people with your great video cards. Just you wait, just you guys wait till I'm on my good computer =/

Was hoping to play this before i went to work tonight, guess that's not an option;(

hehe thx Glenn. The reason I wanted to play it tonight was b/c I'm an impatient SOB.

Also, I'll probably try out the singleplayer mode first to get used to everything, so I don't embarress myself online. I really don't want to hear "gtfo, noob!"

Gtfo, noob.

Really, the game isn't that hard, just find a server playing on easy mode and you'll get the hang of it really fast. Just remember, when your friends are pinned, shoot the mother****ing zombie. :D
