I am going to be doing a little Christmas shopping tomorrow with my daughter & while looking at some ads in today's paper, I saw that L4D2 was on "sale" for $29.95 at a local store. I played the original L4D when it first came out for all of about 30 mins & that was all.

I watched a few cinematic videos of L4D2, which make the game look great. Does anyone here have it & if so, is it worth the $ and/or getting? Also does it have an offline LAN version which does not require you to be logged into steam to use?

Thanks in advance.

It's settled then.

I'm going to buy L4D2 tomorrow. Just got done reading a few reviews from Gamespot, IGN & Firingsquad & all were positive.

Thanks Mikael Grizzly!

No problem. Just make sure that you have a quality headset, voice makes the game a whole lot deeper.

Was that because you didn't like it? If you didn't like L4D1 I doubt that you would like L4D2.

L4D2 is considerably better than the first, but still similar. If you didn't like L4D the chances are you won't like L4D2.

Try the demo.
I thought it felt really similar to L4D and I'm almost positive that I would get tired of playing the game after a few weeks just like I did with L4D.

Which is why I'm waiting for them to have sale where it's under $30.

I logged onto a family members Steam account & gave it a go. It seemed like a lot of fun the short time I played it. I rather enjoyed Killing Floor, so L4D's general theme appeals to me. I just hope it offers a little more, as Killing Floor was a blast, but a little on the shallow side content wise.

A demo huh? Perhaps I'll give that a try & see how I like it.

It definitely adds a lot of things which improve the experience over the first game. Melee weapons are a plus point over the original (love that chainsaw) and the new Special Infected make for some good gameplay. It's still basically the same game with new campaigns and a few extra features though, so if you didn't like the first, this isn't going to be any different.

I believe the campaigns in L4D2 are a great improvement over the original, which were already pretty damn good. There are some genuinely fantastic moments in those campaigns, and the mapping is just beautiful.

The important thing about L4D that nobody has mentioned is that you should only buy it if you have friends you can play it regularly with. Whether these are IRL friends or steam friends or internet acquaintances, the whole thing is pointless without them. Sure, you can play on a public server. That might be nice once in a while. You'll develop a rapport if you go through the whole campaign together. Actually maybe I should do that more often. I might meet interesting people. But at the end of the day you want to have buddies! L'enfer avec les autres ain't so bad.

The one thing I wanted to go into L4D the most on launch was three friends to play it with, but since I've owned the game I've had one friend buy it and we've played two or three times together. Every other time was in public servers and I've constantly enjoyed the game, except for obviously the shit games with rage quitters, runners, etc. That stuff is mandatory of course, but still. I've made quite a few online friends with it and have played with them quite a fair few times - I think personally it's one of the best games to meet and play with new folk on, but it's a valid point that going into the game with friends is the best way to enjoy the game, but I apply this mentality to any multiplayer game.

I said game a lot.

Ah, fair enough! Perhaps it's just that I basically bought Left 4 Dead only this summer and purely because friends had it. With them I feel like I got my money's worth out of it way before the sequel came out (and my computer stopped being able to play it in late September!). This being the case, the whole appeal of the game is framed in those terms for me. The idea of public servers is very alien.

L4D2 is awesome.

These. Though I have had a significantly better time in pubs with L4D2.

Well the sale was over & thus the game was full price @ $49.95. Almost put it back on the shelf when I remembered that I had over 30hrs of overtime at work last week & so decided to treat myself.

Installing now...

I'll be back on in about 2 hours from now & would greatly appreciate someone to watch my back...

I'll post my Steam name here later if anyone wants to add me.

nuts, you did know that amazon has had l4d2 for $29.82, including free shipping, right???? ....still available too.

I haven't actually played L4D2 yet as I'm at university and my 360 is at home. I return to the motherland on Wednesday and I am so, so excited to sink into all the new releases.

Yeah I'll give you some support mate!

Awesome! Thanks G-Dub!
I'll be heading in-game here in about 10 mins. My Steam name is "MRGR" I do have a mic, but the wife is home, so I'll type in-game for now.

Yes, I saw this & decided that I didn't really want to wait for Amazon to ship me the game. I mostly only play SP or LAN with my daughter. Apart from Killing Floor, BF2 was my last full time online game.

Oooooo, sorry, I was off to bed when I wrote that (damn time zones).

Will add you later bud.

Did you play it yet?

Yeah I played it! For exactly 4.4 hrs total so far. A few hours last night & I just exited out. So far, it's a total blast. I have played through the Dark carnival & the Hard Rain campaigns online, but I always seem to join the server near the end so from what I have been told in-game, I have missed a lot of the story in between. Of which I am eager to come up to speed on.

I played for over an hour last night just helping some random players earn their achievements. Great fun. My game name is actually "MRG" & not "MRGR". A typo of mine. There are a lot of "MRG's" on Steam I found out, so I am the one with the "Rabbid holding a plunger" when you go to search for users.

Valve destroyed our community. I wish they had just made a huge patch for L4D1, so that our government doesn't pick it up as a game :/

Our servers are deserted half the time.

Really glad to hear you liked it.

Adding you now!

I always overlooked the versus mode for this game. Then yesterday I pounced another player as a hunter and clawed him all the way to death.

And a huge smile went across my face.

there's a demo on steam! try before you buy!

This.

It's effectively a co-op multi-player game, so unless you're into that, your unlikely to like it. That you gave up on L4D1 after just 30 minutes doesn't exactly scream that you'll rave over this.

He's already bought it.

Also, bam23 you should try Scavenge if you haven't already.

Scavenge mode is awesome fun. I only play vs or scavenge now. Haven't played through any of the campaigns on expert yet. Thats what I did in the first game, was awesome fun, blood harvest took 6 hours for us to complete lol.

But I have way more fun in VS. I love playing as Infected :D Charger is great fun, Jockey can be really dangerous at time and the Spitter just causes massive damage. :D

Add me as a friend and we'll play some expert sometime. Got a dedicated server we can play on too.

Awesome, except those gay bots.
I'm still in love with TF2 though, when it comes to online play.
Ulgh, need a new game.

I tried the original L4D & though I only played it for about a half hour, I enjoyed it. Then my eye caught L4D2 due to a cut-screen I saw posted on a random site & that caught my attention. I was advised to check out the demo, of which I did & if you look at my Steam ID, you'll see I only played the demo for .4! It just hooked me from the beginning.

Now I just got home from work, took a rushed shower & now i'm heading back in. I have only played the campaign online so far, I have not even tried the other options yet..

Versus is where this game really shines. Campaigns on coop are great fun too (with friends) but really, Versus is the bread and butter for the L4D player.

I hope you people still keep playing the game when I get,I will be mad if I buy it and them no one else is playing anymore

Realism makes co-op much more tense, and it can be pretty tough with pubs. With friends you shouldn't be too bad, you just need to communicate and work together well - no outlines to help you.
The incendiary ammo is also far more useful on the tougher realism modes.

versus is fun, but a bit too many people take that too seriously and rage quit after the first round.

i havent had a single game yet where people stayed for the full campaign.

also, i suck as infected. :rolling:
