If giving away your most precious meterial item, could be a car, neckless, computer or even an Xbox 360. Now if giving this item away could save a childs life in Africa would you give it or not.

May sound hearless but most precious item? Doubt it
Would give away some money though.
Just not something that strikes close enough to my heat for my most precious item to be given away

If my most precious item was a material thing then yes, if my most precious item was something else, it would a lot harder to decide and would depend on what that something was.

My girlfriend?
No way.

But if it was a console or a game or something like that, then maybe I would.

It would depend on the way the problem played out; if there was a rational, sensible reason why giving away my rig would save someone's life, I'd do it.

There isn't, hence the percieved 'immorality' when really people's heads are just shouting 'bullshit'.

You could save some lil kids life in africa for like twenty bucks... however, almost none of us are probably doing that.
So, id assume the honest answer for most people is no, because if it was yes, they'd have already done it.

If I was in major hardship, I wouldn't expect anyone elseto do anything for me, so no.

**** no, someone get africa some birth control

this thread reminds me of why ultimately humanity is doomed

some of you arent worth the space you take up

Absolutely. If you can't feed 'em don't breed 'em

Internet ****wad theory Stern, some of these people aren't the pretentiously arrogant bitches they make themselves out to be.

Haha if I hade newly bought an XBOX 360 and I was no rich boy, Id never give it away just to save a kids life in Africa, Dark side FTW!!!!

Stern, why are you on a game forum pushing your opinions on other people when you could be out helping the people of the world then?

what he says.

i'd gladly give my PC.

You realize if you sold your PC today you could save the lives of several impoverished children... ::Waits::

No way.

Please, spare me the politically correct bullshit. Nobody here would give away their most precious material item just to help save a little kid living in Africa.

i would but only in a situation "if you dont give us this, this kid will die right now". not like hey ill sell my PC and send the money to africa.

So then the "I dont care of those I dont see or know" would be the more accurate answer ;-)

Well nothing i have is really worth much to me, even if it has quite a high monetry value, the childs life isn't worth much to me either, i really can't say i feel anything wether they suffer, life or die.
So i can't say i really care overall.

that is, other than the protein value

I dont see why it has to be either or ...why cant we have both ...surely you people do SOMETHING to help out ..right? donate money? donate time?

i saw a bumper sticker that said that today.

i chortled.

ah I see, .. your place in society is that of the parasite as opposed to a contributer

and you people who truely believe that the problem in africa is "If you can't feed 'em don't breed 'em" then you couldnt have made it any plainer what your level of sophistication is if you drew me a picture

QTF. Let's be honest, people.

And no, I wouldn't.

Bollocks no. Anyone who says they would is likely talking through their ass, because you're typing on a computer that you could sell to send money to charity, which would save at least five starving African children. You're all as callous as I am, but I can actually admit it.

Now if the situation was all different, like you went to Africa and saw a small kid suffering, you got to know that, if you gave away your golden Rolex that you spent all your 6 month savings on would save this childs life, would you give it ?

Obviously seeing a child suffer, and simply hearing about it are different situations. In our current states as forum posters, I don't see any of you giving up your machines to give money to charity.

-Angry Lawyer

Wait you missed an option.

I want to be able to kill off people lesser than me for material goods!

DAMNIT I WANNA DO THAT NAOW!

Agreed. If I saw the child in question, with a gun to his/her head, or evan being tortured, I would definately give up my biggest possesion.(Which woudl be my computer, I know, it's sad)

My computer is the only thing I own that I really care about/put money into. Yet I would give it up in a second- human life is far more important, and also, computer addiction is an ugly beast.

If you saw them in person and they asked, im sure all of you would.

And if you didnt i would smack you so hard.

but the point of the poll is that if you saw a child in need would you give up your most prized possesion. The poll question is invalidated because:
- you wouldnt have to look as far as africa. there's children starving in your city, in every city.
- how exactly will you save that person's life? fly down there and forcibly feed it food till the child's life was saved? donate the money to a reputable organization where the money gets dropped into a fund?
- $2000 will not save a child from poverty

and to those of you who say "no", I wonder if that extends to other forms of charity (time is just as important as money) or are you all just as apathetic when it comes to poverty/suffering in general?

i have no problem with charity, i have a problem with giving money to organizations outside of my own glorious nation.

Smack me! Oh yeah!!!

Ahem. Actually, no. I wouldn't give anything. I am selfish and self-serving except to those I love, and if someone I didn't love needed help, I would expect those who love them to help them if they deserved it.

That said, I know those in Africa have less of a chance to help each other out than we in more 1st-worldies do, but I just can't make myself feel too much for people I don't know that have done nothing more of value than suffer.

I have my own problems, my friends have their own problems, and i would much sooner give money and/or material possesions ot help them than a child in africa. I'm sorry but I'm just not gunna give my most prized posesion for a child i don't know and don't even know for a fact that i will help. If i go to africa and see a starving child prsonally, yes i would give them money or food or almost anything, in my current state would i? **** no, i gotta take care of me and my friends/family before people thousands of miles away. we all have our own problems, we all deal with em ourselves. I would never expect anyone to help me if i was starving on the streets
