Woudn't the child live in poverty and a down-right shit way of life if he lives?

Nope. I am utterly selfish.

If feeding starving children made me happier than having my precious possesion, then yes.

I can't give up my friends lives to save someone else, no.

I'm sure you've given to plenty of organizations gh0st ..you just strike me as such a humanitarian

you people better hope you never need a liver transplant cuz I'll just laugh, throw away my donor card and treat my liver to fine bottle of cognac while you choke on your bitterness

zaaaap instant karma! yah for balance!

Oddly enough, I'm an organ donor. Can't see as it'll hurt me, and it didn't take any effort asides from getting my liscense.

Those Feed the Children things in the morning always did annoy me.
It's like...

Lady : This child is hungry, feed it... Please if you're a good person, FEED THE ****ING KID YOU ****ING ****!...*que sad music*

Stern, I like you, I really do. And I also happen to think that the only way these people can be helped is if they help themselves. Us supplying tons and tons aid to these people (which we already do), isn't going to alter the rather chilling thought that these people haven't changed. No matter how we have tried to help them, the general populace seems doomed to apathy to their own condition. They still think the same, the still starve the same, and only by changing the first can they change the second.

edit: Oh, and to your last post: Yah for balance. Yah that we love those we love more than others.

Absolutely. If you can't feed 'em don't breed 'em
Well put.

However - If they say that like, 50,000 kids over there die each day from hunger, then where the hell are they all coming from? They've been saying that for years! Do they have some cloning factory pumping them out, to distract caring people from other things like war in the middle east?

If not, that means that the little bastards our parents blindly sent money to 20 years ago, have now pumped out about 6 or 7 more little mouths to feed, just adding to the problem, and now they are ALL sitting there, STILL starving. When will they LEARN?

Instead of "Save the children" how about "Stop making children"?

Send in Freeman to sort them out.

Stern :) remember back to when you were 14-20

Did you send your money to charities? Or did you buy weed? Exactly.

kinda like that one.org thing where you just give a signature

lol, that doesnt address my point/question at all

I'm just saying when you were our age, you probably didn't do what you do now (money or time). Unles you did in which case you're a freak :D

I do less now than I did when I was younger, not enough time. It's not always about giving money. There's a million things you could do ..and some of you probably should consider as it looks good when you want to apply to college/university ..there's a ton of charitable organizations to belong to ...did I mention that the majority of the people who do this sort of work are women? you guys think too superficially :E

i gave 50 dollars to the red cross :D considering my salary thats quite a lot... i'd like to see you give a third of YOUR paycheck to charity. plus i go on mission trips and build houses for people in tijuana, mexico and helping aids infected homeless people in san francisco with my evil, dogmatic church. in fact i'd say in my short life i've made quite a positive impact on the world.

My church did the same thing in Juarez, Mexico... It was hot

I think all churches go to mexico. That's really sad for mexico. :| (Double meaning ftw!)

I do strongly believe in sterilization. MASS STERILIZATION. If you cannot support kids, do not have them. But thats different if they're already in this world.

I wouldn't give away any of my most precious items because chances are the poor people in Africa don't have much use for them. What are they going to do with a PC, for example? Plug it into a tree? The best thing they could do with it is sell it. In that case I'd much rather just donate money for food/clothing/education/healthcare/machinery.

Hhhhhhhhhhheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeelllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllll No!!!

No One Gets My Computer!

You know, Stern, you can complain about spam all you want. You're becoming a regular forum troll.

So you're asking if I would give away my most precious material possession for the life of a child? And after that one's life is saved, do I have the option of giving away my current, most precious possesion to save another one? Would it make me a bad person if I wanted to stop giving away my most precious material possessions after a while? How many personal possessions before I'm a "terrible abomination" and I'm "ruining the future of civilization and humanity?"

My point is that I hate these shit scenerios that no matter what you say, you're an asshole. "If you had to choose between your girlfriend/friend's/father's/mother's/dog's life and your own, would you give up your life?" That is never going to happen. Why bother talking about it?

And no, I don't make a habit out of participating in charities unless someone approaches me about one. I've been to Blood Drives before, and I've done little donations and all that sort of thing, but if its not in-my-face I usually don't even think about it.

I also don't believe I'm a "piece of scum" or "a terrible abomination to this world." So screw you.

IDK about you...but in the states Boy Scouts contribute A LOT. In fact I alone have hundreds and hundreds of hours of community service. Doing all kinds of stuff. Heck for my Eagle project I planted a large garden for a food shelf here. Hence I spent money and time(lots of both) to help out people less fortunate than me. Looking good on a piece of paper isn't what it should be about. Will I put that I gave hundreds and hundreds of hours of my time to help people out on a resume? Nope I won't...that's not what it is about. People should go out and do it, if everyone in the U.S. gave a few hours to help out every so often this place would be exponentially better.

In fact littering would be practically null...after you spend 10 hours cleaning crap up on the sides of roads...you know how much it sucks and realize if you don't throw it away yourself someone else has to.

And hence the allure of littering

I litter and then hide in the bushes so I can watch the boy scouts bend over and pick it up.

It puts the lotion on it's skin.

.

If its something that precious and close to me the no, I'm not going to give it up. Sure, money I could give. But haven't. And won't.

:upstare: misplaced bitterness if I must say so myself

it's like some of you just want to jump to the wrong conclusions when it comes to interpreting what I've said ..it's either I havent made myself clear or some of you cant get past the first sentence of any of my posts. I've stated that it doesnt have to be monetary that it can be small acts, I've stated that this poll is unrealistic and that there is far more to do locally than in another country yet somehow some people only see/think that I'm judging someone because of their inactivity when it runs much deeper than that ..it's the callousness and apathetic attitudes that gets to me, not the fact that they wouldnt sell there most prized possesion (again I've stated that the poll is unrealistic)

I feel like I must either post short concise statements or long intricate ones with full disclaimers and quantifiers ..because for some odd reason people hit that quote button as soon as they read my first sentence and ignore the message all together

!ZOMG Ghost is banned! I believe this is the first time in memory!

You know, I think you're right. But then, I may just be sucking up unconsciously... or not.

ah I see, .. your place in society is that of the parasite as opposed to a contributer
but also everyone who "quoted for truth" them.

The second part of my post was discussing how stupid it is to think about dumb scenerios like this, because there is no point. There is no scenerio I would have to give away my "most prized possession." I also wonder how many things I have to give away before I pass the "good person" test.
I've stated that it doesnt have to be monetary that it can be small acts, I've stated that this poll is unrealistic and that there is far more to do locally than in another country
Sorry I only took into account what Garfield said, when he wrote the thread:

Since, its his thread and his poll, and you didn't really write either of those things. :upstare:

Well, then you should have only responded to xLostx in your first post. Since he was the only one who said anything like that. Let me stress this, though-- I wasn't responding to you with most of my post. I was just responding to the subject of the thread.

Thanks, but I didn't.

And I was annoyed about how you just have to follow gh0st around and make comments about how he is such a terrible person, in every thread he posts in.

...and they all lived happily ever after.

The End.

that's not entirely true ..I dont follow him around, he just so happens to post in a lot of the same threads as I do ..oh and I'm willing to bet more times than not, he posts based on my posts (posting his posted thoughts about me posting) not the other way around

oh and the parasite thingy isnt an insult it's a valid analogy not meant as an insult

MY most prized possession is my car.

Arguably it greatly improves the quality of my life.

Would I give it up to let some kid I don't know live?

Depends.

Would this kid's quality of life be better or worse than mine?

Kid from Africa, likely born with nothing, likely to die early from starvation and rampant disease, with no role models other than radical liberationists, refugees, gun toting militia and Nigerian scam artists.

That does not seem like a worthwhile investment to incur hardship upon myself and reduce the quality of my own life and those around me that depend on my ability of luxurious transportation.
