Let's see if anyone can figure this one out...

Ok here's the specs so you know what we're dealing with here:

AMD Athlon 64 FX-57 2.8ghz
ATI x1900 512mb
1 GB PC3200 RAM


Ok. I started playing Far Cry 2 tonight, and I maxed out all the settings and the game runs smooth without a hitch. I try playing the witcher last night, and with all settings on LOW the game BARELY runs at 20 fps. :|

Anyone?

What resolutions? I honestly doubt you're getting FC2 to run on max at a decent resolution with that rig. If you are... then screenshots plz.

Are you playing the enhanced witcher or the first one?

Enhanced witcher. and no your absolutely right the resolution is on ****in 1024x768 but im still surprised i could max all the other settings out. I expected it to be a slideshow.

x1900? that card doesn't make the minimum specs for The Witcher does it?

I have one of those cards, it's better suited for older titles, like before 2005 or 06.

I would have expected the same considering you're barely over the minimum specs. I guess the devs did well optimizing the game then. TBH, I was surprised at the performance I was getting at 1920x1200 too.

Turned out that was the problem. The witcher was on 1920x1200. I set it to 1024x768 and it runs butter smooth with all settings on max. FC2 has all settings on max too with 1024x768. Guess if I keep the resolution low I could play with everything high. The funny thing is I don't notice any visual downfalls by lowering the resolution. The game looks like sex.

Depends on his AA settings. If he cranked it all the way up, that explains why it was running so bad at 1920x1200, and why it looks decent at 1024x768. If you want to play at a higher resolution, you can probably just drop AA all together, since at higher resolutions it becomes much less necessary. Thats what I usually do so save on frames when im at higher resolutions.

Basically what Krynn said. ALL my settings are maxed. The AA is cranked to the max so the jaggies are very well under control. I can tell it would look much smoother at a higher resolution but I'm not complaining just yet.
