I have made a light attached to a ballsocket joint and a rope. The light is set to prop_physoverride and it works great. But how do i attach 'light' to it so that light shines in whichever direction it swings?

Parent a point_spotlight to the light model, aligned so it is facing downwards. You can overlap the point_spotlight and the "bulb" of the light model to a certain extent. This will give you a visible light cone and a dynamic light illuminating whatever the spotlight is pointing at. (You might want to turn off the dynamic light [checkbox under spawnflags] if you are getting slowdowns around the lights, since they are slow to render).

Odd. Perhaps rotate the whole thing (lamp+light) a few degrees around the pivot so that it starts off swinging very slightly? That way it will be moving already on map start.

What?....Your Rope doesnt jump to the map origin on gamestart?

Did you parent the Rope to anything? If not, how do you make the rope move with the light?

There's a tute on dynamic lights which covers exactly what you're trying to do in the hl2 world wiki.

The keyframe_rope is on the ceiling and the 'next point' is set to 'light01' (the name of the light and bulb). Similarly, the ballsocket is in the same place as the keyframe rope.
