Lightsaber is overpowered (not a whine post)

Well first of all this is not a whine post. I just wanted to bring forth certain observations. fanboys don't bother replying.

so, lightsaber:

- no ammunition needed; no reload intervals
- light weight
- pocket sized
- can be used as "a shield" (debatable; supernatural reflexes req.)
- able to penetrate NEARLY anything

And even if it was heavier and required some sort of "ammunition", the fact that this weapon is able to penetrate nearly anything makes it incredibly overpowered. For example compare lightsaber to the E-11 Blaster Rifle (the standard issue weapon used by Imperial Stormtroopers) and the difference in the damage-per-second output between these two weapons is insane especially in a long battle, where the E-11 will run out of ammo considerably soon since the basic power cell only provides 100 projectiles. The keyword here is consistency. Lghtsaber can maintain the same damage output pratically forever, a blaster rifle can only do it for a limited amount of time.

And it's not just limited to these offensive aspects, because lightsaber also provides excellent defense; can be used as a shield against laser based profectiles. A standard issue Blaster Rifle limits you to purely offensive tactics.

Yeah only Jedi's have the ability of making the Lightsaber "Overpowered", reflexes, force etc.
Not many lightsaber for there isn't that many Jedi's (Or any for that matter ._.)

I can pick up an incredibly real and sharp sword, swing it around at my foe without ever accidentally hitting myself with the blade as long as I'm not doing those overly flashy jedi twirling moves that serve little practical purpose when it comes to the blade's effectiveness.

I can almost guarantee you I can pick up a lightsaber and never cut myself with it in my entire life unless somebody forces me to with their own weapon or whatever.

So-called "Cortosis-weaved" weapons are able to withstand lightsaber hits, although if they're badly made they'll still get sliced into bits after some hits.

How much more effective is a lightsaber when compared to a conventional metallic weapon (katana, sword)?

Let's see. A lightsaber can slice things up quite awesomely. It also burns the wounds on the victim - so they won't bleed to death, which is a negative point for lightsabers. It's a close-range weapon, so you can't throw it around and pwn, say, a dozen stormtroopers who're shooting you simultaneously with their lasers.

In short, the function of a lightsaber is really no different to that of a conventional short-range weapon. Sure, it's fancier, and lasers bounce off of it... but unless you've taken the time and effort to become a full-blown Jedi and have acquired enough skill to battle dozens of enemies with superior and more effective weapons, the lightsaber remains a weapon only a true master can use. So i don't think it's overpowered. I am the president of Asia etc.

You can throw it around...lightsabers have been thrown around since forever. A person skilled enough in the force could not only boomerang a lightsaber but control it independently of himself. Control MULTIPLE lightsabers in such a manner.

If the bullet hits at an angle, you might be unlucky enough to be caught with a piece of shrapnel. If the bullet hits full-on, it'd be vaporized by the lightsaber.

I think it has something to do with the fact that because the handle is curved they couldn't make it, since the blade and the electronics go all the way down the handle.

Otherwise I'd love a pair like Asajj Ventress.

About the bullets, a jedi can deflect projectile weapons with the lightsaber. I think they just use it as a means to focus their force in order to deflect them. It happens in some of the books.

You probably would slice your own leg off the first time you tried to spin the blade all fancy like they do in the movies, because you twirl a sword by using the blade as the weight that carries the sword in a circular motion.

Not to mention, just holding it downward while running around in a little battle or something, it's sure to bump your leg a couple of times.
