awwww. but HL1 works with Linux. Maybe somebody will make a patch for linux or something.

No they won't. Gabe's already said.

Move to windows buddy.

i have a nice windows gaming machine but i like hosting my games on a linux.

Chris_D, where did you get that Gabe has said there will be no port for linux, i really think there will be, I havent run linux yet, but people say it runs games better. Theres a huge half life 1-linux community, why wouldnt there be linux support for HL2?

dude linux is the only way to run fast HL ded servers why would they scrap that?!?!

Everything Linux does is better, problem is, it is not user friendly.

im good with it. i have a great server running on it as we speak. if people want to learn it im sure they could.

Mac support should be more of a priority.. atleast mac is now 64bit with ati 9800 pro drivers

Roger that. F*ck Mac. Apple claims to have the most powerful processor with the G5, but what they don't tell you is that Apple purposely set the Intel and AMD processors to settings that would reduce performance during tests.(ie: turned off hyperthreading...)

If i find the article saying what apple did, i'll post a link.

I think people are getting confused. I'm pretty sure that there will be Linux server support as there is with the first Half-Life, but no client support. If there was no server support I'm not sure I would want to play it online.

I believe they are making Linux servers, but the game itself will not be made for Linux. Perhaps the WineX project will be able to get things working.

i believe i posted the answer in the valve info thread, cant be bothered finding it, but there are no plans for a linux client, there will be a linux server though.

I agree.

And to anyone who said "**** macs":
You are sad. Get a clue.

Just for clarity:

There WILL be a HL2 dedicated server for linux.
There WILL NOT be a HL2 client for linux.

This is just how it is w/ HL1. Maybe some industrious peeps will get HL2 working with WINE as they did w/ hl1 :)

The Source engine is built in and heavily reliant on DirectX, so the only way for HL2 to show up with a client version for Linux or Mac is for Valve to completely rewrite the engine for OpenGL...which has about a 0.000001% chance of being economically feasible.

I guess I'm glad I've got a PC!

Only me that wants FreeBSD server support? But maybe you can run the linux binaries on FreeBSD too. I think that worked for HL1 ded. linux server.

Gabe worked for microsoft for many years. It is probably much much easier for him to work with mocrosoft based technology such as directX and windows due to this.

This is correct: no client on linux, but ded linux server. There will also be a 64bit dedicated linux server .

:borg: sad. very sad. There are so many excellent cross-platform development toolkits out there. And well (better?) performing *standards*based* platforms.

this is why people should Do It Right the First Time(R)

No. that's not a slam of an individual developer. It's a slam of a mentallity.

Of course, Valve could put one person to work on the emulation environment that linux gamers use. I've gotta believe it would pay for itself in one year.

Time to give up on Valve.... *sigh*

I sure hope so (see attachment) I chick couldent look that good in windows thats for sure
