I thought it would be a good idea for a topic for people to vent about their opinions on movies that may be seen as "unpopular" :p

For me:
kevin smith is overrated
jaws is overrated
jurassic park is overrated
2001 is overrated
the lion king is overrated
ET is overrated
taxi driver is overrated
goodfellas is crap
no country for old men is crap
burn after reading is crap
jungle book is crap
terminator 4 is worse than terminator 3

okay don't flame me ;)

Must. resist. flaming.

Star Wars is soooooooo overrated.

The Dark Knight is overrated.

/checks post history.

woops, I took part in the overrating after I saw it. Saw it again on DVD, didn't like it nearly as much. Great movie, just not the masterpiece it's made out to be.

2001 is overrated

This. It just dragged on for so long, and there were too many "person walks incredibly slowly along/around a corridor in magnetic boots" scenes. The first time, I watched it with a friend there, who started falling asleep halfway through, so we put the rest off until the next day.... and then toward the end of the second half he insisted on watching it at double speed so it would hurry up and finish already.

The second time I attempted to watch it, it was on tv with no commercial breaks and I fell asleep before the Dawn of Man section even finished.

My "controversial" opinion is that the Bourne trilogy is overrated. I recall mentioning that here a very long time ago and someone, I can't remember who, got totally pissed off :p.

Sunshine was boring and sucked, aside from the soundtrack.

2001 was extremely boring.

Lost in Translation was boring, not even Scarlett Johansson's ass could save it.

A Clockwork Orange was f*cked up and nigh unwatchable, also somewhat boring.

That's all I got, suck it.

300 is awesome. It has that sexy violence that been so popular lately.

Edit: Scarlett shows her ass in Lost in translation?

If this is a contraversial opinion, then dye me blonde and call me Boris Johnson.

Most people do seem to think that it is miles better than T3 though o_O so I just felt like throwing it in

taxi driver is overrated

goodfellas is crap

ok now I know you're delusional

ok here goes ..my controversial movie opinion ....Michael Bay sucks

I never really liked the Lord of the Rings trilogy. This might be because I never read the books and I'm not a fan of the fantasy genre in the first place.

I also think American Beauty is overrated.

Haha, no, I just prefer people to take less than two minutes to walk across a hallway. And if they absolutely must show it, I'd also prefer not to have to watch them do it five different times. :p It's like "OK I GET IT they're in space and they wear magnetic shoes so they walk really slow. Can we see something else?" If I really wanted to watch people walk really slow, I'd go over to my grandma's house.

As if that weren't enough, you also have to sit through a couple of scenes of people eating their meals really slowly. Again, it would've been ok the first time, but they have to do it multiple times.

Or 2-minute shots of the spaceship doing nothing out in space. I could put on my own music and look at space photos on the NASA website and it'd be more interesting.

I have to agree, plus the stupid part at the beginning baffles me where for 5 minutes it is just a black screen. I thought the dvd was broken or something. Why on earth do you put a black screen on for 5 minutes other than to be pretentious.

Although to give credit where credit is due the HAL story overall is done well. The other parts, no.

Yeah, I enjoyed the HAL story and wished there was more of it. The Dawn of Man section and the ending were also good enough. If they had cut out all the other repetitive and generally pointless scenes, it would've been better.

For me:

jaws is overrated [Agreed]
jurassic park is overrated [Disagree]
2001 is overrated [Agree]
the lion king is overrated [Agree]
ET is overrated [Agree]
taxi driver is overrated [Agree]
goodfellas is crap [Agree]
no country for old men is crap [don't know]
burn after reading is crap [don't know]

Now for my list:

LOTR, Star Wars (including the old ones), Star Trek, Sunshine, Cloverfield. All of them overrated crap.

Superbad was terrible.

A Clockwork Orange was boring.

Citizen Kane was tedious.

Fight Club was boring.

I always like these threads on the basis of how they're like psychological test-cases. Most of the movies that people dislike so strongly seem to fall into a few basic categories, and what is often cited as their problems will be cited as others as their strengths.

Kill Bill 1 and 2 are shit
No Country for Old Men is shit
Pulp Fiction is overrated
I loved Bayformers 1
Transformers 1986 is the king of movies
Lion King 2 is better than Lion King 1
Also Disney sequels aren't as bad as everyone makes them out to be and some are quite enjoyable

There Will Be Blood was really boring and overrated.

Revenge of the Sith was extremely entertaining.

Brain Dead is better than Evil Dead 2.

Juno was total crap.

i don't like sw (i don't think it's overrated) much, but extended universe - including video games
jp has some cool scenes, i dunno
i don't like et (maybe I just don't like et's look)
matrix is overrated, dark city is much better
i don't like dark knight either, i prefer gothic theme (which was used in 90s animated series) for batman
spiderman movies are shit (main actor is a baby)

Scarface sucks
Citizen Kane sucks
300 sucks
Goodfellas is good, but overrated
Pulp Fiction is good, but overrated
Schindler's List is good, but overrated

Just because a movie's intentions were lost on you doesn't make them "overrated".
